I feel like we have to remember this is a time period where college was especially pushed on young people because it was believed a degree got you a better job. I don’t think it was that Alan didn’t want Eric working with him necessarily, he probably didn’t think he could handle the business aspects of it because you gotta admit he got really immature and dumb since the Tommy episodes I feel like. All could be a hardass sometimes but a lot of dads can be that way and I think it’s pretty common, honestly. In my experience, my dad (and a few of my friends’) is gonna say it to me straight and not try to walk on eggshells if he needs to respond to something I might be wrong about or he disagrees with. He tries to be logical and it can come off hurtful sometimes, obviously he could also be wrong, but at the end of the day he’s looking out for what he thinks is in my best interest. If parents have raised us right, we should be able to think critically and do what WE think will be best for us even after we’ve asked for advice and gotten multiple answers.
