It's a lot of steps and there might be an easier way, but that's how it would have been done originally.

I feel like Avalanche was the right move there. Even at 4x super effective, it would’ve taken two Ice Shards to kill it, versus the guaranteed OHKO from Avalanche. Regardless what move you’re using, Mamoswine is taking a hit there.

@@insertclevernamehere1186 - Here's my very simplified answer: In Pokemon, since Generation 3, there are "natures". They alter each Pokemon's stats. For example, Adamant nature increases a Pokemon's Attack and decreases it's Special Attack. In general, it is best to have stats which reinforces your highest values and decrease your lowest since you have a +/-10% in that stat. Giratina (the altered form, which is how it was used) is known to be a very tanky build. It has monstrous HP and defence stats that are hard to match. All while its typing of Ghost/Dragon also allow it to wall a lot of physical attacks - as a simple example, it completely ignores any normal and fighting attacks (the latter heavily leaning towards using Attack more often than Special Attack). Therefore, it is often deployed as a physical check (especially in older generation) - a Pokemon you can throw in if you see your opponent leaning towards using moves using Attack/Defence stats. This leads to one of the most coveted natures of it being Impish (which decreases Special Attack while increasing Defence) to let it absorb physical attacks even better (the choice of a nature that decreases Special Attack is because Giratina often uses its Attack stat more often to deal damage and Special Attack therefore becomes more easy to sacrifice). Getting the right nature is generally a 1/25 activity without more specialized breeding mechanics in later generations. As such, the Giratina caught here is likely a 1/~200,000 find (1/8192 for the shiny, multiplied by a further 1/25 for the correct nature). One final consideration is IVs (individual stats), which further scale up or down a Pokemon's stats - the higher the IV assigned to each stat, the better. However, in the footage, I don't think there's a way to check that.

Simplified answer: In Pokemon generations starting with 3 (Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald), Pokemon are assigned natures. These define stats that are improved/weakened by 10% of the stat. Often, you want a nature that improves your Pokemon's best stat and hurts its least useful. For example, a Pokemon that relies on Attack to deal damage will likely want Adamant (increases Attack and decreases Special Attack) or Jolly (increases Speed and decreases Special Attack) to keep their Pokemon on the offensive. Altered Giratina (the one used in battle in the video) is a tanky Pokemon. It has sky high HP and excellent Defence/Special Defence. It is also a Pokemon with excellent type coverage, completely nullifying normal and fighting attacks (as a ghost type) while resisting a lot due to it being a dragon type. As such, it is generally seen as a tank/wall Pokemon, whose job it is to absorb hits and prevent your opponent from achieving a KO while it is out (while threatening to burn/poison your opponent or do other useful things that can help your team, such as clear spikes/stealth rock). A commonly preferred nature for Giratina is Impish for this reason - it increases Defence while decreasing Special Attack. The desire for higher Defence is because it is often a physical wall (blocking Pokemon that mostly use their Attack stat on offence) while attacking itself using Attack over Special Attack (meaning Special Attack isn't that useful for it). The approximate odds of catching a shiny Impish Giratina is about 1/205,000 (a 1/8192 odds for the shiny and a 1/25 odds for the right nature).

My first shiny also happened to be while I was doing a nuzlocke. I was nuzlocking Brilliant Diamond, and my Cycling road encounter happened to be a shiny bronzong. It carried me all the way to Cynthia until her Garchomp sadly wiped my entire team. Another lucky thing, the next attempt also on cycling road, a ponyta gave my team pokerus. I somehow got so incredibly lucky in those two runs.
