After having listened to clips comparing the SM57 and the PGA67, I've concluded that the PGA sounds fuller and warmer than the SM.

I broke part of the plastic clip when attaching one of the mics to my tom Sonor tom. Luckily enough of the plastic is left and it still works. For the other ones I put a drumstick in the middle of the hole and used it to stretch the clip around the rim. Once it clicks into place the drumstick slides right out.

I've got this as my 1st set of mics for home recovering. What did you do for effects/ EQ etc....The tip on the snare mic hopefully helps with the bleed. Finally, with that last set up on the overheads, will that eliminate phase issues? I'd appreciate any help

Hey Guys! Sorry for late comment, but I just saw the video and found it really helpful! Anyway, I've got a question for you, I'm a drummer and my usual gigging kit consist : Roland octopad, which I use for kick and toms, dw snare drum, zildjian K series hihat and a K crush on the left side + A series ride and sometimes another bigger crush on a right side. Which minimal set of PGA mics would you recommend for my everyday gigging? Would really appreciate your help! P.s: right now I'm using two sm-57 which I bought second hand and apparently are fake, so you know it doesn't anything like what you have there=)

It's an excellent microphone! A very noob question right here.. So I want to make a drum cover but I don't know sure how to set up the mics and mixer.. Drum mic>mixer> can I connect directly to the laptop ?

Hi! You can do this a few days depending on how much time and money you want to spend on it. If you already have a mixer and want to just get a simple recording of you into your computer, you could take the stereo Left and Right outs of your mixer and plug those into a simple two channel recording interface. You wouldn't be able to adjust the individual levels of the mics after the fact, but it would definitely be the cheapest and easiest way to go. You might have to record yourself a few times to get the levels to balance the way that you'd like on your mixer, but it would definitely work! Getting a little more involved, if you have a mixer with USB or Firewire outs...or aren't afraid to buy a recording interface with 8 or more channels, then you can send each mic to its own track in your recording software and adjust levels, EQ, compression etc of each track individually...after you've recorded your parts. Hi I have a very noob question, however I'm not a drummer perse, I'm a guitar player/mixing engineer wanabe attempting to start my home studio. Here is the question: Why do drums have dedicated mics while cymbals use 2OH mics no matter how many Cymbals you have?

+Rodrigo Alvarez The cymbals tend to be really loud if you mic them up close. Normally using a good pair of overheads (equal distance from each other and the set) will get good sound from your cymbals.

The overheads are the foundation of a really good drum sound, they give you a "picture" of the whole kit as one instrument working together. The close mics are used to enhance certain sounds. As always, getting your instrument to sound good in the first place is paramount to get a good recorded sound. If you're new to recording, try some cool 2 or 3 microphones techniques to try the concept of recording drums as one instrument instead of many smaller instruments recorded individually.

Andrew Wang Meaning that the distance between the overheads is the same distance as the left OH to the center of the snare, as the right OH to the center of the snare.

how's this compared to Samson DMK7? these mics are in the exact same price in my country

I have tried neither of these, but it seems that the issue people have with the Samson kit are that the mics have quite a bit of harsh midrange that take a lot of work to get out. So my guess would be that these are the way to go. Hope I could help.

ONDA DODO This micing technique will work for a wide variety of styles. Emmett (the drummer in the video) is also an accomplished fusion and jazz drummer. That day, he just felt like rocking. :)
