Even when Elizabeth Montgomery had terminal cancer, she was just so beautiful and certainly didn't look too ill. I call her this tragic beauty, gone too soon, and the same with Agnes Morehead, and the actress named Alice who had ovarian cancer..... My goodness. It made me want to cry. And then, my own mother who had cancer, joined those who were pretty much so iconic, to me. I still think about these amazing actresses and my mother.

True. He ended up in small town in Michigan because his mother had died and left him her house. Dick & his wife were in dire financial straits for many years, so the chance to move there for a rent free home was too good to pass up ! In a TV interview he did before he died, the reporter said they were living on $650 a month from his Screen Actors Guild pension. But in the interview Dick (on oxygen) was anything but wallowing in regrets & self pity. He was very upbeat and only had positive things to say about his career and his co-workers. I'd seen in a video on here about Bewitched which revealed how Dick York had supposedly fallen in love with Liz and wanted her to leave her husband for him. Biggest problem with that was that her husband was the producer of the show! How did he expect her to leave her husband for him in that situation? All three worked on the same show and he was just willing for both of them to lose their jobs over this? Because I'm sure that's what would've happened since her husband was the producer and essentially their boss.

Samantha IS Elizabeth. That statement is so true. The things that Sam did Elizabeth did at home, painting something around the house, painting a picture, gardening, and like Sam, Liz, according to her eldest son, was an excellent cook. But one of Liz's interesting comments is that, she was never bored, in all eight seasons, and she learned so much, like going to college. She also said the same thing in another interview. That two-part interview is here on YT. There are those, who have done BEWITCHED documentaries, have expressed the opinion that Liz was bored by season eight. But she did want to move on. As Bill Asher said, BEWITCHED had run its course and television had changed. Her parents wouldn't let her go to a movie until she was eight. They felt it was better that she go out and play, just like a lot of other parents. ❤ As I watched the interview, I got the feeling what a sweet person. Her smile was genuine, not forced. Her children would probably disagree with their Mom. Based on what her son and daughter said, in the 1999 A&E special, their Mom would always go and see her kids, no matter when she got home from work. Her son William said that she would always talk with them. He said, on the weekends, it was all about her family, just like her own dad did, when she and her brother were kids. Her daughter, Rebecca, said that she missed her Mother's voice. Finally, Elizabeth seldom spoke of BEWITCHED, until the late 1980s, when Herbie Pilato met with her for his book THE BEWITCHED BOOK (now BEWITCHED FOREVER). Because of the book, she let her guard down a bit. Liz was very private. She was proud of BEWITCHED and the cast, and they loved her. As an example, Pilato wanted to interview Dick Sargent and David White. They wouldn't speak to him unless Liz was involved. She arranged for a telephone interview with Sargent and a surprised face to face meeting with David White at Elizabeth's home. This shows how much love and respect they had for her. Pilato would go on to write Elizabeth Montgomery's biography.

I do think she was bored on the final season (and I do not blame her). Nevertheless, there never would have been a Bewitched without the warm, beautiful and talented Elizabeth Montgomery.

Where they friends? People desperately want to cling onto a fantasy that actors are all friends with each other. It’s a job. Would you go and help out some guy you worked with ten years ago? A colleague that wasn’t a friend. I have numerous co workers from days gone by that I can’t even remember!

My favorite actress of all time , for many of us a first crush. When I was about 10 or 11 the cast of Bewitched was the celebrity guest for the Soap Box Derby in Akron Ohio, they were watching the races from a tower and I was seated below, after yelling Samantha for a while she looked down , smiled and waved ( annoying kid :-). She was very special (still is, thanks to video) Thanks.

Yes, I know and I don't understand why ? Was she really a callous person after all ? Dick York phoned her, left a message and she never had the decency to call him back. At least find out if he's ok for God's sake. My estimation of her as a person had plummeted after hearing this.

Tony Montana . Lots of stories about how Dick York fell for her, she didn’t want him, she was married, it got icky. I’m pretty neutral toward her. I feel more concern for her father, Robert. I think he may have gone on with undiagnosed PTSD after his war service. In “ They Were Expendable” he captured chronic war fatigue perfectly.

@@tonymontana897 I agree but for a different reason. I loved Elizabeth and I was sad to see her marriage to Bill Asher end supposedly after the series ended. But I did read in several different places that during the 8th season of Bewitched, Liz fell in love with a director and associate producer on the show, Richard Michaels. You see his name frequently in the credits. He was married, also. Ultimately, her marriage to Bill ended and Richard's marriage to his wife ended and they moved in together. They were together for 2 and a half years before their affair ended. I'm still shocked just typing this. All the books that Herbie Pilato has written about Liz and Bewitched never mention this at all.

Several have commented on Elizabeth not mentioning either Dick York or Dick Sergeant. It's well known that Elizabeth favored and enjoyed working with some actors and actresses on the show more so than others, just as everyone does in their own work place. You can work well and perform together well on set without being best friends. I think most of us have worked with people for years that we would consider to be friends at work, yet do not socialize with them or keep in contact with them outside the work place. It's perfectly normal.

In a special called ELIZABETH MONTGOMERY: A BEWITCHED LIFE, is here on YT, in eight parts, her son William mentioned what Liz said here about never winning a "Mother Of The Year Award". Well, he totally disagreed. According to Herbie Pilato, who knows her kids, said that they adored their mother, as did Foxworth's kids. Liz is being honest and kind. Her father really didn't want her to get into acting, for the very reason that Liz says here. But when she did, her father was hard on her, seldom praising her, mostly critizing her. But Liz plowed ahead and became a beloved actress and person. Erin Murphy loved Liz, saying that she acquired some of Liz's traits, like her love of cooking and coffee ice cream with honey. 🙂 Erin has also said that, if one were able to meet Liz in person, they wouldn't be disappointed. She was as nice in person as Sam was. People who have met have said the same thing.

That's interesting. Liz and her husband worked long hours, similar to what parents are having to deal with now. Single parents have it just as rough. Alll three of their kids have grown up to be fine people. In the 1999 A&E special on Elizabeth her son William said that his mom would go and tuck them in at night and when they had time off, between seasons and weekends, their parents spent time with them. Liz taught her kids to be awae of what goes on around them.

Some think that the cast stayed in contact with each other. Well, they didn't have cell phones back then. Erin Murphy has said that somesome exchanged Christmas cards First.of all, the cast went their separate ways after BEWITCHED. The only one who did stay in contact with some of the cast was Erin Murphy, espicially Elizabeth, through her kids. Elizabeth wouldn't meet up with David White and Dick Sargent again until April of 1989, for interviews for Herbie Pilato's first edition book THE BEWITCHED BOOK, the second edition being BEWITCHED FOREVER. Secondly, Erin Murphy said, in an interview, some of the cast did help York financially. She didn't name who.

The interaction between Elizabeth and Dick-- antagonized by Agnes Moorhead--was what made the show so special. Elizabeth was more the straight-faced actress to Dick's zany actions and expressions. He was made to be the buffoon and took the brunt of the comedic interplay. My wife howls over many of those reruns. My guess is that she didn't like Dick because his health issues took so much of his time and effort to deal with and affected the show to some extent? That was what was so sad. They could have been a great couple on the show for many years longer had Dick not had such terrible back problems. Dick York over Dick Sargent any day, in my book.
