Tarikh Episode 604
In this episode Tarikh Nikhil talks about Dr BhimRao Ambedkar and The "Deshche Dushman" case, ‘Desh ke Dushman" refers to a legal dispute in 1925 involving Keshavrao Jedhe and Dinakar Rao Javalkar, who co-authored a book critiquing Brahmanical orthodoxy, particularly targeting leaders like Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Vishnu Shastri Chiplunkar. The book, penned by Jedhe and Javalkar, accused the Brahmin community of causing the downfall of India.
The controversy escalated, leading to legal action against the authors. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who was a prominent figure in advocating for Dalit rights, represented the accused in court. Ambedkar's defence focused on the argument that the book criticised Brahminism in general rather than specific individuals and that the accused had the right to express their opinions.
In the end, the court ruled in favour of Jedhe and Javalkar, stating that while the book contained offensive language, it did not warrant censorship. This case showcased Ambedkar's early legal advocacy against caste discrimination and his commitment to freedom of expression.
