Snow Plowing with Can-am Promount Steel Plow: Tips and Tricks
Winter brings with it the challenge of clearing driveways and roads from snow. The task can be daunting, especially if you live in an area that receives heavy snowfall. Using a snow plow can make the task more manageable and faster. In this blog post, we will discuss our experience with the Can-am Promount Steel Plow mounted on a Can-am Defender HD7. We will share some tips and tricks we learned while plowing our driveway in Nova Scotia, Canada.
After waiting for the snow to reach 18cm (7 inches) this winter season, we were finally able to use our Can-am Promount Steel Plow. In the video, you will see us making mistakes and trying to adjust the blade height while figuring out the best way to clear our driveway, which is on an incline. The Can-am Promount Steel Plow is a 64-inch plow that made our job faster than using a snowblower.
One of the challenges we faced was the need to get our driveway as close to the gravel as possible since we go from freeze to thaw in Nova Scotia. This is important to prevent the driveway from turning into pure ice. If we had a flat driveway, we would build up a layer to glide over the snow better.
Our driveway is gravel, with an 11-degree slope, and a new section that we extended this year, so lots of uneven and unpacked gravel. We knew we would be dragging rocks this time. Additionally, the ground was very soft since we did not freeze over yet. Despite these challenges, we were happy with the Can-am Promount Steel Plow's performance, and we were not throwing gravel like we would with a snowblower.
If you are using the Can-am Promount Steel Plow or any other plow for the first time, here are some tips and tricks we learned:
1. Start with a low blade height to avoid dragging too much gravel.
2. Adjust the blade height as you go. The plow can be adjusted up or down with the winch, allowing you to clear the snow effectively.
3. Plow in a back and forth motion to prevent buildup in front of the plow.
4. Use sand or salt to help with traction and to melt the snow.
5. Be patient and take your time, especially if you are new to plowing.
In conclusion, using a snow plow can make snow removal easier and faster. The Can-am Promount Steel Plow is an excellent choice, but it takes some practice to get it right. We hope these tips and tricks will help you with your snow removal needs. Remember to stay safe and take your time when using a snow plow.
