@jaj4706 I felt like I had made a mistake, mostly because of the pain at first. They absolutely shredded the inside of my lips, and I couldn't get any relief. It was awful. Then seeing the transition and worrying that the outcome wouldn't be the best and thinking maybe the before wasn't so bad. Haha I just worry about everything and braces were no exception. They are a huge expense and wondering if it would be worth it was unnerving at times. Surprisingly, after a while, I kind of enjoyed having them and was sad to see them go. My teeth aren't "perfect" after having braces, but I do think it was worth it.

@jessicab331 Yes, I have had them off since October 2021! I was very careful and tried to do everything right as well because it came out of my pocket! Braces are expensive! And for me, I had added travel costs because my orthodontist was over an hour away. Haha. So, I definitely tried my best to be as careful as possible. I hope your second journey with braces is a good one! They will be off before you know it! I miss mine sometimes. Haha.

I have the one for the overbite but since my last appointment last month, my ortho told me that I now only have to wear the elastics when sleeping, not during daytime anymore 🥳🥳

I had a variant of class 2 elastics. My ortho crimped one of those hooks on the wire in between the brackets on my middle and lateral incisors on either side and I wore the elastics going from those hooks back to my molars on the bottom. Worked super fast for me.

Although you do an outstanding job at answering all of my questions... I just have one unanswered about elastics. Does a patient have to wait until a certain point in their braces journey to start wearing the elastic bands? I’m asking because I’m about 3 months in and my mid lines are slightly off (only I’ve noticed) and sadly my orthodontist hasn’t really made this journey fun and full of information during my visits. It just feels like I am part of his routine and I don’t get the chance to ask questions because he’s already out of the door and onto the next patient. My lower row is rotated in toward the tongue side, so they put buttons on the tongue side of my lower premolars. I have elastics that go from the brackets on the upper premolars, across the biting surface, and to the buttons on the lower premolars.

I wear clear aligners. My dentist bonded directly to my teeth metal buttons on my lower molars and a plastic (I think) on my upper teeth to fix a class II bite. I put on 6 1/2 oz heavy elastics.

with my first set of braces I had the canine to canine cross but I also had elastics that attached to metal buttons on the lingual of my top molars and attached to the buccal of my bottom molars. I think they were expanding my upper arch

Gosh I’m currently on the silence of the lambs elastic pattern which is going to stop me from eating and speaking. Basically a zig zag from my cannine to my too front top and bottom. It’s insane. I just got them this morning and I’ve been dying in pain. My ortho had suggested me to use them 20 hours a day till the next appointment 🥲

Got my elastics and power chain today, needless to say...my jaw hurts EDIT: the elastic pattern I have isn’t in the video. I have a button on the back of the second to last molar on top and it’s hooked to the front of my second to last molar of my bottom teeth. Feels weird, but it’s supposed to help my cross bite. The sides of my tongue is definitely rubbed raw

im in the last two weeks of wearing my braces after having invisalign for a year and 8 months, and braces for 6. I've been wearing triangle elastics on both sides (open and overbite), but now my ortho has me wearing an elastic on my top and bottom front teeth(top and bottom pairs) to bring my two top front teeth down more. They are my least favourite of all the elastics ive had to wear, and I feel they move my bottom front teeth more than the top. I had bad gum recession (and gum graft that only partially mended the recession) on one of them when i started invisalign, so im anxious it will worsen again.

I had braces and these bands are very dangerous to you’re jaw if you have a severe overbite you are waay better off accepting you’re over bite and over jet using these bands caused the muscles in my jaw to be sensitive to my mouth opening wide and caused jaw cracking and popping and dislocation

I got elastics last Monday the 31st not sure what mine is classed as….. it’s just on the left side to bring those teeth down to the bottom as there is a gap… so the band goes around 2 top hooks and goes straight down to 2 other hooks! Had no pain or felt any difference yet except one of the hooks is very close to the hun which is hurting a lot and make it so hard to get the band under it 😅

I have the zig zag ones now and they hurt like hell😭 I’m so annoyed that my midline won’t be symmetrical with my face. What I think the problem is… I was told to extract 4 teeth. 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom (the ones right after the canines). But they needed up telling me 3 was good. So ofc my top teeth shifted towards the right because that’s where the extraction was. So I have all 7 teeth on my top left and 6 to the left and the bottom ones. So now my midline is towards the right 🥲 I wish they told me to extract all 4 that way it could’ve been perfect but whatever. They’re better than they were prior to braces.

I have something similar to the triangle… its those same 3 teeth, except my band goes from the bottom canine stretched up and over the top canine and then to the premolar, so single band up and over no band crossing at the bottom.. looks more like a upside down V than I triangle. And I tell you what, it frickin sucks. I cant open my mouth AT ALL when I have them on.. thankfully, I only have to wear them at night for now.

My ortho asked me to wear class II elastics 24/7. Then during my last visit, he said I wore them too much and I now have to wear Class III elastics. He said when I notice my bottom teeth sitting perfectly behind my top teeth, he wants me to switch to wearing triangle elastics. It's hard for me to determine when I should switch to the triangles and my next ortho appointment isn't until April 13th ☹
