Make sure you get some wax. A true mouth saver! Take some Advil or Tylenol before you get them on too. It’ll help with any discomfort. It will be well worth it in the end! ☺️ (I had them at 20 and have to get them again at 37 🤦🏼‍♀️)

So I’m 7 weeks in with Damon metal braces and tbh no pain what so ever, didn’t need any painkillers it was hard to eat first few days due to my bite block on one side but got used to it by the end of the week also used some wax first 3-4 days but my cheeks got used to it, now I have parrot elastics literally was given them today hence I’m back here lol and it’s not painful .. well not yet lol

@jaj4706 I felt like I had made a mistake, mostly because of the pain at first. They absolutely shredded the inside of my lips, and I couldn't get any relief. It was awful. Then seeing the transition and worrying that the outcome wouldn't be the best and thinking maybe the before wasn't so bad. Haha I just worry about everything and braces were no exception. They are a huge expense and wondering if it would be worth it was unnerving at times. Surprisingly, after a while, I kind of enjoyed having them and was sad to see them go. My teeth aren't "perfect" after having braces, but I do think it was worth it.

@jessicab331 Yes, I have had them off since October 2021! I was very careful and tried to do everything right as well because it came out of my pocket! Braces are expensive! And for me, I had added travel costs because my orthodontist was over an hour away. Haha. So, I definitely tried my best to be as careful as possible. I hope your second journey with braces is a good one! They will be off before you know it! I miss mine sometimes. Haha.

thank you for this explanation, my orthodontist NEVER explains anything or why she does the things she does, i finally understand how the elastics are gonna help me, also for like 3 or 4 months i had some sort of resin implant? idk how to describe it since she never told me the name of that thing, right behind my upper incisives and those were so annoying, to this day i dont know what they were or what purpose they served... but this video helped me understand how and why those elastics are part of my treatment

My midline was off because when I was a kid, I took one of my brother's elastics and put it around my two front top teeth for several hours to lessen the gap. Only one tooth moved, so my midline wound up uncentered. Ended up with a gap next to the tooth that moved, but I didn't really notice it for years, and from head on, it wasn't as bad as the center gap was. My dad wouldn't pay for braces for me after my brother didn't wear his retainer, so here I am at 35 with braces after repeatedly delaying getting them since age 19/20.

I had a variant of class 2 elastics. My ortho crimped one of those hooks on the wire in between the brackets on my middle and lateral incisors on either side and I wore the elastics going from those hooks back to my molars on the bottom. Worked super fast for me.

I think I'm on the final stages of my brace journey, it's almost 3 years. I have elastic on my end molar top to my front bottom teeth, to get the bottom teeth backward. Now my front teeth is open again like anterior box, plus it's back on overbite😩

My dr said he needed to do that to create space and he tilted my lowers out to meet my top. But i dont like the way my bite looks. Some front teeth dont even meet. And he is ready to scan me for my retainers. Should i say something?? And Main question js WOULD WEARING THEM LIKE SHOWN IN CLASS 2, FIX THE FOWARD TILT ISSUE?

Although you do an outstanding job at answering all of my questions... I just have one unanswered about elastics. Does a patient have to wait until a certain point in their braces journey to start wearing the elastic bands? I’m asking because I’m about 3 months in and my mid lines are slightly off (only I’ve noticed) and sadly my orthodontist hasn’t really made this journey fun and full of information during my visits. It just feels like I am part of his routine and I don’t get the chance to ask questions because he’s already out of the door and onto the next patient. I wear clear aligners. My dentist bonded directly to my teeth metal buttons on my lower molars and a plastic (I think) on my upper teeth to fix a class II bite. I put on 6 1/2 oz heavy elastics.

I wore class II elastics for at least 3 visits, yesterday they changed it to triangle, I had a small overbite so understand why class II, but I'm not sure why they made me wear triangle but since they are the experts I'm gonna continue wear them even if they hurt a lot!

I'm on cross elastics because my upper teeth are veering towards my right. Started elastics since 2019 and tbh I havent been consistent. My brackets fall of most of the time because I guess the paste he was previously using was not that strong? (if thats how you say it lol). And sometimes I get a bit irresponsible and eat/drink stuff that might break off the brackets. I sometimes apply elastics because I'm scared that I might break then again and that results to me always visiting the clinic even when it's not my schedule. And now with this pandemic, it is not advisable to have too frequent visits. But now that he's got a better paste, I can now keep putting on my elastics and fix these godamn teeth.

My lower row is rotated in toward the tongue side, so they put buttons on the tongue side of my lower premolars. I have elastics that go from the brackets on the upper premolars, across the biting surface, and to the buttons on the lower premolars.

My ortho asked me to wear class II elastics 24/7. Then during my last visit, he said I wore them too much and I now have to wear Class III elastics. He said when I notice my bottom teeth sitting perfectly behind my top teeth, he wants me to switch to wearing triangle elastics. It's hard for me to determine when I should switch to the triangles and my next ortho appointment isn't until April 13th ☹
