What a healthy looking spider! Mine is about half that size and I can't wait for her to mature. She molted today and I think it is a female judging from the pictures I've seen of female molts. I sure hope I'm right so she'll be around for a long time!

I got mine 3 wks ago. Only an inch. I picked up a 3/4" B. Auratum at the same time. At least yours should look like a mini adult at that size. I got my B. Smithi at 3" in premolt 12/3/22. She's molted 3 times since I got her. She's up to 4.5" now.

Such a beauty, but dont hold her high up, if she for some reason decide tu jump, it will kill her. Always handle her as close to the ground as possible since they are unpredictable. I saw a very experienced keeper loosing one of his tarantulas while he wanted to feed her. For years she alway crawled into her hide when he opend the enclosure to feed her but on this day she fatally desidec to bolt and jumped out of it falling to her death. It was sad. He published the video as a warning to always ensure the savety of the spider and never trust it never will bolt.

while this is very interesting to look at, it's incredibly dangerous for the spider. a fall at this height would 100% be fatal, especially since this species is known for being skittish

Does handling them often make them more comfortable to it? Because if I reach in to even water her bowl, mine is launching hairs and standing ready to bite.

Unless you want to get your hand tagged, i suggest you dont touch that tarantula

They will never get comfortable to it. Your best bet is test it's temperament every now and then with a brush or something and if it shows aggression just let it be. One day it might be chill and you can handle it comfortably for a bit.

tarantulas don't have the part of their brain that allows them to recognize you. they'll always be afraid. handling is dangerous for them and stresses them out so it's not recommended, however if you still want to there's a ton of guides on how to do it safely

@OceanEggg Love the answer. I leave my girl alone as much as possible, water her with a spritzer, and feed her by dropping food a bit away so she has to be active and look for the vibrations. But she's just a softie and I'm going to avoid trying to be hands on. She's happy without it and that's enough for me.
