Hey everyone! In case you were early on this video and were wondering where the link for the VGAME tutorial was, please find it here! kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5qzcmuOlLuFa5Y Also, apparently "Feed a Hole" borrows a lot from previous games like Donut County. I didn't know these games before but I can definitely see that - Our mistake for not catching that though! I will ask you all not to blame the author, there is nothing wrong with copying other games in a game jam :D It's just about having fun and sometimes you just want to try your best at re-creating something you like! I thought that was really impressive how they faked the black hole optical effects so well. It was really just doing a sort of reflection which isn't too hard computationally, but it captured exactly the feel of light bending around from behind the black hole despite not actually doing it at all. At first when I realized that I was kind of disappointed but honestly I'm super impressed now at how they got the feel so good without requiring crazy raytracing and intense simulations (at least I assume they didn't ray trace...).

It was pretty poorly executed too. you could see in the video that the circle just bumped up in size all of a sudden and it didn't seem that fun because the area was small and without many objects. I don't want to spread negativity towards the creator of it as I probably could not have done much better myself and I haven't actually seen the other games but I feel like someone else may have deserved a spotlight more than he did. that being said I can kind of see this from Brackeys' (idk his name lol) point of view because he might have wanted to get many approaches to the theme in his video and may not have known that this game was just a poorly made clone.

Great stuff and nice to see pre-made assets are allowed, but IMHO for future jams it would be nice to see 2 separate categories: 1) unique games made from scratch just for the jam and 2) games made using pre-made assets, asset packs, clones of existing games, games made by closely following tutorials etc. and showcase them separately. Otherwise this is awesome and this channel is a gold mine, keep up the great work!

I asked the guy who made it about his shader for the lightning effect. He said there's sort of a "glass-like bubble" around the asteroids that reflect the light in the way that you see in the gameplay. I really wanted to do this Gam Jam, but I don't know how to code. My idea for this was you are an investor searching for someone who went missing in the woods for years. In the forest, however, there are holes inside every tree. And there's an invisible monster in the woods with you. But the only way to see it is by looking through the holes, because the holes look into a different dimension where you do see him. At the end of the game, you find a house with a hole that is human-sized. You jump inside and confront the monster, only to be chased into the area where she was kidnapped and you die. Let me know if you think this is a good idea.
