Hi Leon, those finds are so awesome. How do you find so may teeth/ray plates etc. I find a few teeth and loads of shells just walking along the waters edge but what methods do you use?

Hi Jack, Thanks for your comment! I don't sieve, I just use my eyes, but whenever I go to Bracklesham I usually stay for at least four or five hours & I am hunched over the whole time so my eyes are closer to the ground - when I try to stand back up again it can be quite difficult!!! I have learnt to recognise the places where fossils tend to accumulate more - usually along edges where the smaller stones meet the sand, around the wooden posts etc. The very best times are when the sands are washed away & the actual fossil beds are exposed - but this is very rare & in all the times I have visited, the beds have only been exposed for me twice - it relies on a very low tide in combination with weather conditions that will help remove the sand layer. Even when the beds are not exposed but when the tide is fully out, fossils can also be found in large numbers out on the sand flats - again, search along tide lines where small stones have been gathered. I hope that helps a bit & I would love to hear from you again if you find anything you are particularly pleased with! Did you see my video on Barton-on-Sea fossils? They are also Eocene & many are very similar to those at Bracklesham. Thanks again for watching my channel - it is TRULY Appreciated!!!

Thanks again Leon, I appreciate the feedback. I'll check out the other content you have recommended. I found my first ray tail spine the other day. Thank you very much 😊

@@jackjenkinson2037 Excellent! I love the little tail spines - I don't care that they are so small because they are so intricate & look amazing down a microscope. Have you got a stereo microscope? If not, I can't recommend one highly enough for fossil collecting - microfossils can be just as interesting as larger fossils with more chance of collecting whole examples. Thanks again for watching!!!
