Brad Corrupts: Super Mario Bros. Volume 2

Using a Python script, Brad takes your favorite 8-bit NES games and scrambles the bytes. These are the results.

Unfamiliar with Super Mario Bros? Wait, really? No, just no, I'm not even going to humor posting an uncorrupted version, GTFO.
25 years ago, video gaming as we know it was changed forever. No longer were games tied to their arcade roots, it became so much more, with the help of a genius Japanese developer by the name of Shigeru Miyamoto. The platforming era had begun, and now, I shall corrupt it mercilessly. Enjoy Volume 2 of 3 as I give this game a healthy dose of rom corrupting whoopass.

Iteration 1: The screen flashes like crazy making the game unplayable. Iteration 2: Mario's sprites are horrendously glitched as the overworld tiles switch colors quickly, after a while the game crashes. Iteration 3: The level is altered, hitting a power up block makes a green one appear on top and breaking a block doesn't make it dissappear, mario's sprites seem to have miscolored parts, reaching a pole flag makes the game crash Iteration 4: Basically every power up now kills you also some visual glitches in the sky tile some enemies fall off the map. Iteration 5: Mario is transparent and cannot hit blocks as he goes through them and he sometimes goes through the floor and dies. Iteration 6: Music is missing percussion, getting a power up will cause a beep sound to play reaching theflagpole will make a headless bowser sprite to appear and move through the screen quickly and fire breath to be shot from a random place. Iteration 7: An invisible and looping underwater level (seems to be a glitched version of level -1) Iteration 8: A gigantic amount of 0 invade the screen the tiles go crazy and sometimes glitch into 0, also mario's momentum seems broken constantly moving fast and feeling uncontrolable, power ups don't have hitbox with mario and he can't grab them the sprites constantly switch from goombas to headless bowser and koopas with bowser head and there is an upside down goomba, reaching the flagpole makes the screen go into seizure mode. Iteration 9: The sound effects are simplified sounding like atari 2600 sounds, the level is modified and looping with enemies suddently falling from the sky and also going through the floor. Iteration 10: The music is cut off by a random sound effect later it restarts, the level is modified with some enemies stuck on place, the music glitches and starts playing a corrupted jingle that goes back to normal after a while, the end castle is missing and thus mario is stuck walking forever after finishing a level.

Iterations in a nutshell II 1. Screen flashes. Nothing cool, go home. 2. Corrupted mario wall, every jump makes the game worse until game crashes. 3. Blocks are kinda wierd. And game crash after touching flag 4. Power-ups are evil, nothing else special. 5. Mario died and became a ghost. 6. Broken sounds return! And then a bunch of bowser backs start flying around and game crash. 7. The minus world but invisible. 8. A lot of 0's are appearing. Physics are slightly wierd and power ups ignore mario entirely. Beating the level slows the game down a bit. The game slowly corrupts more and more. 9. Just a bunch of broken sounds and random enemies. 10. Mainly sound corruption but texture corruption joins in too. And mario walks right past the castle for a walk.
