I'd take Tiger, Player or Seve over Faxon. Not even close. 😏

Josh, as usual, great post. Brad Faxon is the man. Brad's anecdote about Bob Rotella having him watch free throw shooters makes ALL the sense in the world, to me. Rhythm, flow, complete trust.

This lag feeling is exactly what I feel when I am putting lights out. I always thought it was wrong because it felt more ‘wristy’ but when putts are sinking I just go with it. When the putter is feeling good I abandon all mechanics and just try to have an athletic connection to the hole. Like a hockey player passing a puck. The motions in this video is the result. During my putting practice I have always tried to keep the wrists more stable. Now I see why I am such a streaky putter. Great video and information, thank you!!!

Brad is a natural teacher, he is able to articulate certain fundamentals/feels/dynamics better than most. What a talent, a top purveyor of knowledge from a guy who has thought about these things for thousands and thousands of hours and half a century. Listen up.

In other words lose the Super Super stroke grip and 360 gram head mallet. Go old school blade for feel. Pingman grip (for me). True school. No feel. No bueno.

I used to be a very good putter and I grew up using the old Ping Anser putters that were very light, and I think it helped me be good on lagging long putts. I played most of my golf in the 1980’s and 90’s, and the greens were not as fast as today and much bumpier, at least on the courses I played and even when playing NCAA Division 1 tournaments. It was such an advantage to consistently hit putts on the sweet spot and put a good roll on the ball, it was a must on the more bumpy greens, because if you miss hit a putt, even if the face was square at impact it would not hold the line. And when got to putt on really smooth greens it seemed like the hole was so much bigger.

I have watched a lot of Faxon on KZbin as well as the other putting coaches and he is by far the best I have seen when it comes to real world advice that works on KZbin but more than that he is also the best I have seen on the attitude you should have when playing the whole game of golf.

what stood out to me is the fact that Brad Faxon, possibly the greatest putter alive and the best putting coach alive, had people tell him that he didn't need a forward press and explain to HIM what it does. This would be like telling Neil Peart he is holding his drum sticks wrong.

Brad Faxon, Ben Crenshaw, the best ever at putting. Love this vs new putter styles which is why I think everyone is trying crazy grips etc. they should all just watch this and maybe Ben Crenshaw’s 1986 Putting Lessons.

An interesting point which Faxon touched on regarding type of putter , it’s more than a coincidence that most if not all the notable putters , Woods, Faxon, Crenshaw, Stricker, Olazabal , Watson , Nicklaus , etc all putted with blade type putters and none of them use/d oversized grips in fact the only putter of notability that uses a slightly oversize is Speith and even that its only about 1” give or take 2-3mm so these common denominators one must assume are a contributing factor in good technique.

I have never used anything bigger than a 330g head on my putters. The Studio Design grip is, in my opinion, the best putter grip ever designed.

100% agree!

Amen! Studio Design grip to me is better than the Ping pp58 and it's just perfect. there's a reason why so many modern-day players with mallets and giant superstroke grips ( I was one of them for a while) struggle so badly with distance control and all the damn good Putters come from an era like Faxton Crenshaw and of course the greatest putter to ever walk the earth, Mr Woods.. who used pings version of the studio design grip. The modern Putters simply have no feel with giant grips and 365-400g heads.

This is super interesting. I’m wondering if loading the putter will work as well with new putters and their heavier swing weights? I have an old Ping Anser and a very new Odyssey AI double wide. I plan to try both and my hypothesis is that the method will favour the old Ping. Any thoughts? Ideally, the best way would be to get Brad to demonstrate both older and newer putters.

Big fan of Brad, without question. Comment on grip pressure: Brad, an 8 time winner holds the putter lightly. Tiger, an 80+ time winner holds it firmly with his left hand. Just saying......Comment on forward press: current science says the perfect loft to hit a putt is between 1 and 2 degrees. Older putters like the one Brad uses were manufactured with between 4 and 7 degrees of loft so the forward press would definitely be necessary to get that 1-2 degrees at impact. Putting is soooo individual; no two people grip or putt the same and sooo many are successful putters. It's in the dirt!

I'm left handed but play right handed. I haven't found anyone that can explain methods to explain putting for this situation. I'm a good putter and have used multiple grips but can't use left hand low because the left hand does not dominate. I've used the claw for almost 20 years because it helps me to release through the stroke. Comments welcome. Thanks.

I am a low ranking pga teaching pro working my way through the program. I play very good golf and give excellent lessons but I have an issue I cannot fix myself. I obsess about hitting putts flush. I love that perfect feeling of a perfectly struck putt. I do a lot of tiger one handed putting drills when I do the drill no matter what I flush it with one hand when I put my left hand back on I hit it off the heel because I think I’m not releasing the same way. Does anybody know how to transfer the feels? From drill to real

I really like this video and will use many of the ideas. I was kind of turned off by one thing though. The idea that the shaft of a putter could flex during a putting stroke is frankly ridiculous. Hopefully they mean that you make a stroke that FEELS as if the shaft would flex.
@pjpredhomme7699 Жыл бұрын
ignorance is bliss - we used to have plenty of putters with shafts that used to flex - the ping putters really were much stiffer than many forged putters of a bygone era . Faxon originally mentioned the original bullseyes - which had a very light almost aluminum shaft that was fluted - it definitely had flex in it starting at about 15 ft or so you would definitely feel the shaft flex and kick

If your putter is loading prior to impact, your putter is deflecting at impact.

I think what Brad is describing is a lot less than a 4 grip pressure if a ten is as hard as you can grip, then A 4 is basically half of your full grip strength. That's not what he appears to be describing! looks to me like his grip pressure is a 1 or 2. To be able to manipulate the club like that you have to have and extremely light grip.. much lighter than a three or four
