The cheap headbutt from villasanti on Freddy in the 2002 Grand final vs the warriors villa headbutt the whole team and they got in behind their captain and moved into another gear then was the 40/20 Freddy kicked and got momentum the rest is history.Having a guy like him at the helm in a team as Ricky Stuart would of found out is easier to coach but when they retire you better have a good plan not just get a guy who's a big running 6 and may have worn the blue and the green and gold jersey a few times.sorry Ricky you got found out

Freddy is the greatest five-eighth of all time. With all due respect to Wally Lewis, the famous Queenslander is not the best no. 6. While Lewis was an amazing player, he never got it done at club level. In three years with a loaded Brisbane team he never got close to a Premiership, and no one really counts the old Queensland competition as a legitimate barometer of club success. All the best players like Mal Meninga left for the NSWRL early in their careers because they knew it was the premier league competition. Freddy got it done at club level with Penrith and Easts, as well as for New South Wales and Australia. The mythology surrounding Wally Lewis has propelled him to a level that his record doesn't really justify. Even Wayne Bennett admitted that at the end of 1990 he had to get rid of Lewis if the Broncos were to be successful. Freddy on the other hand was crucial to his teams chances. Just look at how the Roosters collapsed from 2005-2009 in the aftermath of Freddy's retirement. Wally's fantastic, but at second receiver Brad Fittler is without peer.

Watching this to get my footy fix while the NRL is suspended. Absolutely fantastic package mate, Freddy was probably the greatest Rooster ever and one of the greats of the modern era. He had it all but his step and leadership were unmatched. When the game was on the line, he'd always lift. Just look at the 2000 prelim v Knights, the 02 GF or the Anzac Day game from 04 where he single-handedly stepped two players to score and seal a Roosters win. Perfect song too buddy, I get emotional every time I see the video.

Freddy didn't hide behind the attacking line. He was the attack. He directed every play. His long driving kicks would always put his side in the position he wanted. He single handedly turned the '02 Grand Final with a 40-20 kick which completely swung the game in his favour. His sidestep is unmatched, almost impossible to defend against. A keen eye, and acute passing game would put players through gaps with ease. You've been watching footy for thirty years without ever watching.

+craig slade Clear blatant bias. Wally was the King of Origin. However, he didn't dominate at ARL level as he was past his prime by the time the Broncos came into play and was even sacked by Bennett. Fitler was the youngest to ever play Origin, dominated his position of centre, won a GF with Penrith then went on to be one of the all time great 5/8s winning comps at the Roosters as captain. Big enough to play lock for Australia and NSW on a few occasions and dominated there too also captaining both those rep teams. His name deserves to be tossed up as a future immortal somewhere down the line. FYI I'm not a Penrith fan nor a Roosters fan. Fuck the Roosters!

deadset how is fittler not considered the best 5/8 of all time. he had the best step, and the best kicking and passing game as well. Lockyer is good but he doesnt even compare to Fittler. Wally lewis is a joke, he played 3 games a year (origin). Fittler should have had the most appearances for Australia and origin if he didnt retire 3 years early in 2001 to concentrate on the roosters (as a result took them to 3 straight GF'S) on top of this he retired at only 32 years still at his peak.
@rewster711 жыл бұрын
Argument is invalid seeing as Freddy set up many tries from, like you said, anywhere on the field. Not to mention the fact that he held the Roosters side together during his entire time at the club. They made the finals every season he was there, and making the Grand Final 4 times in 5 years, which in this day and age is a huge task to do, only a slary cap-cheating Storm could match that. When he retired, the Roosters went backwards.
@bradlymyboysroosters13 жыл бұрын
Brad Fittler, oh how do they say Andrew Johns is better than him? Andrew Johns didn't have the footwork like Freddy, didn't have the ball work like Freddy, I Still don't understand how people can say Andrew Johns is better than Brad Fittler.... it really pisses me off. Brad Fittler was the captain of Australia at the age of 20 getting payed $1.05M a season reportedly and the winner of the NSW series for origin gets the "Brad Fittler Medal." Reply to this and tell me why you think whose better..

Don't get the point in the argument between Fittler, lockyer and Johns. You Aussies should just be happy you have had such talented players, up here we have to put up with super league telling us how great tomkins is when he's not good enough to be compared to slater. Saying that though, Ellery was the best loose forward of his generation and we do make better forwards up here.
@stevvvvveperry12 жыл бұрын
its a shame, we will probably never see such a great individual player like freedy ever again, since the game is changing, mostly in the junior part, they are focusing more on trying to get kids to pass the ball, which is good, but they are taking the individual brilliance out of the game, freedy will probably be the last great individual player, the game will see.
@rewster712 жыл бұрын
Better forwards? I don't know about that. Peacock, Morely and Sinfield are great players but in the last ten years Australia have had Shane Webcke, Steve Price, Craig Fitzgibbon, Petero Civoniceva, Gordan Tallis, Nathan Hindmarsh, Steve Menzies, Luke Ricketson, Luke Bailey, Jason Ryles, Willie Mason, Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis, Matt Scott and David Shillington. Come on...
