Totally agree. He's a master, and pulling off things that the legacy of improvised music has only strived for. It's so beautiful I wish other past pianists like Abdullah Ibrahim were still here so they could witness this too.

Mehldau’s touch and velocity control is of the greatest in the world. Independent finger control that is so hard to match cause of the sheer years of dedication it takes to get there! He’s a true master of the piano!

Stressed out coming off a long and crowded Tube ride after a busy day in the city, closing myself in a dark bedroom, and putting this on. My heart rate is at least 20% slower and my anxiety and exhaustion are halved. Just gorgeous.

Masterpiece played by a master. I used to try to write songs, and I wrote a lot of them. There was one I was really proud of for several minutes, until I finally realized I'd just done a (bad) cover of Blackbird. Songwriting is really hard, humbling work. I guess unless you're Sir Paul. On the plus side...I think it does give an extra dimension to your appreciation of the greats if you've given a shot at writing songs yourself.
