No doubt Brother!! My Grandma and her 2 Brothers left Taylor County, WV 100 years ago for opportunities in Ohio. I remember visiting where they were raised back in the 80's. Bare bones poverty, but the nicest, kindest people on this earth

I'm a Substance Abuse Counselor and I've seen the reality of this song. Thank you, Brad for singing about this issue that the majority of the rest of the world turns a blind eye to. May God bless you and yours.

The bar he refers to is right down the road from where he lived. It's where we all became men learning to drown the down. I've spent too much time there to even remember. This one really gives me hope that music hasn't really died. Just wrote him and told him so.
@danielnoel354011 ай бұрын
Holy smokes, this is dead on the money with what has happened to the heart of Appalachia. I watched my father get beat to pieces moving coal for the Elk River Railroad. His work broke his back down till he couldn't work anymore, but it wasn't his job that took him from us. It was the medicine that the pain clinic doctor promised would ease the pain.

Wow, is this a new song just seeing the light of day? So glad a ‘mainstream artist’ is tapping into the grassroots scenes that are really taking hold these days. Very nice!!
@ericcartmansstrengthandpow596011 ай бұрын
Unfortunately you're just going to see more good and genuine artists sell their souls as a result of all this country music hype that's going on. Like that shitbag Childers promoting depravity.

Good to see Brad has not forgotten his roots. Around Wheeling where he grew up, this is reality. The problem is that Brad and Oliver Anthony care more than our elected officials who make sure this legal poison keeps flowing into Appalachia

Haven't heard something as authentic and powerful from Brad since the early 2000's. a true return to form here
@IndoctReeducate11 ай бұрын
I don’t sense any authenticity here definitely when it’s coming from a guy who said getting the JAB is a patriotic thing. He doesn’t care about the people he is singing about. Mainstream is trying to find a way to tap into this sound that is exploding. He’s just trying to refresh his image after taking horrible stances the past couple years. Stances which completely contradict the words he’s singing!!!!!! Everyone don’t feed into this bullshit!
@ComedyBros511 ай бұрын
That's what I said! He hasn't been worth listening to for well over a decade at least. This was amazing to hear!

Holy shit. I've never heard him sing like this. Thank you, not only for this song- but never forgetting your roots...even though sometimes it feels easier to do just that... I'm a wv native. My "home" in roane county- the county I remember growing up in- is but a mere memory. What has taken it over rips my heart out... But it's the reality of it.

Oliver Anthony is bringing out the best of other artists ❤️ Brad back to his roots
@vincentreyes615411 ай бұрын
That's exactly what I was thinking. Hearing Grady Smith address that in one of his latest videos, it's nice to see even big-name Nashville artists go back to more strip-down acoustic music and videos. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKqrlWCOlq2Id6csi=qKYOTGm-NjHWHVF0 (Jump to 10:40 to see the comment, though the entire video is a very informative thesis) I love me some of the newer stuff by Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, Charles Wesley Godwin, Sam Barber, Chris Stapleton, and the aforementioned Oliver Anthony and all of those artist from that independent/songwriter scene. But to see guys like Brad Paisley, a gent I grew up listening too, go back to this aesthetic really warms my heart. I missed his music from the American Saturday Night album and everything prior to it. It's nice to hear a really talented songwriter and singer and guitarist like Brad to let that talent shine without any of the highly edited production that Wheelhouse to Love and War had.

Very well done . I grew up in the coal fields of southern West Virginia on the Kentucky border There is 100% truth in this song I graduated high school in 1993 , immediately left and joined the Marines . Had a good tour of 4 years ,, been in Tennessee since then . Love to go home and visit , but thankful I never had to make a living there

I never comment, but I think Oliver Anthony is bringing these I've had fame country guys back to their roots. I loved country until it wasn't county anymore. Everyone was too fearful to sing the truth of what was actually happening. Thanks for bringing light to such a horrendous situation everyone everywhere is facing.

I'm from WV. I want to know what's being done to help our people, our kids. Everyone's addicted. It's a shame what our towns have become. There's no rehabs being built up. There's no mental health facilities popping up. Where's the help for our children. NO ONE DOES ANYTHING.
