So cool to see you checking out At the Drive In for the first time. I highly recommend looking up their Jools Holland performance for this song. It's the stuff of legend. And of course, you should probably check out the bands that formed from the remnants of ATDI: The Mars Volta and Sparta.

I think at the drive-in considered themselves a post-hard-core band, so basically like hard-core punk, but a little bit more creative 😅

Genre is Post-Hardcore, and they're one of the biggest examples of the genre along with Glassjaw and early Alexisonfire.

This album is something I've listened to on and off for 20 plus years, I've never once thought of what the meaning of the lyrics might be, I just enjoy the sheer invention of the music and the vocals are 100% part of that, they're not going over the top of it they're part of the whole thing, honestly though it's still one of my favourite albums and something that I've never seen or heard anything else get anywhere near too, including the bands other work, they really pulled out all the stops with this.

Nicely done! Several of these guys went on to form The Mars Volta. TMV is pretty epic, I suspect they’re more Lex’s stylistic preference than yours. Anyway, thanks for doing this song! 🤙

Lyrics are cut away cut away .. send transmission from the one armed scissor. I always thought the one armed scissor is a guitar and this song is an ode to being in a rock band on tour. Cedric is a human thesaurus of a songwriter and he will have you looking up words you never heard before.

Ambiguity is the fundamental basis of songwriting - made so you can interpret it however you want. But this guy is an actual poet! As all art is - the expression is only relevant to the observer … it makes sense to me.
