This show is much more mature than Heartstopper. This series is more realistic and complex. It's fantastic. The chemistry between the main characters is insane.

Agree with everything except the realism. I think we are in a universe where both Heartstopper and Young Royals are playing out in two someplaces in the world. Not exactly, having so many teens that are that skilled in communicating all bunched up in one group like in Heartstopper might be unrealistic… although I have found myself in self selecting groups where everyone has particular traits several times in my life, so it’s not out of the question to have a teen bunch with a Tara, Elle, Charlie and Nick in it. (I think they are the best communicators, when not hiding things, and all of them do that about different things.) Plus honourable mention to Isaac for cutting right to the truthful and perspicacious point when he does talk/text. The focus of the two shows are just very different. Heartstopper focusses on three important themes that I can count, and focusses on a bunch of good kids - that self select into a friendship group - with human empathy as the main cast. They’re all very real psychologically and physically speaking. Our own society has unfortunately trained us to consider a mainly happy story to be an unreal one, and that’s just not true. I don’t want to spoil anything about Young Royals. It takes Hearstopper’s three main themes and adds two to four extra ones, depending on how you define those themes. The main cast and their peers are much more under pressure, because of those 2-4 extra themes. More pressured and complex environments producing more self conflicted and self contradictory characters. And producing characters with less stable and clear internal ethical compasses. It’s all very good.

The main difference between them is, on Netflix Heartstopper is listed under kids and family viewing, young royals is not

I wanted to point out that in YR the characters look like real teenagers, with acne, non-normative bodies, etc. Also, in this show, the class differences and their conflicts are clearly visible. I also think that the actors do a great, great job and the photography is excellent.

Please keep watching this show in the original language. Even though the actors speak English it’s just not the same with the English voiceover. I would definitely also recommend Skam Norway season 3.

@@bradamreacts each season of Skam focuses on a different character within a connected group of students, the plots are somewhat disconnected so if you jump straight into season 3 you're not missing too much context other than a few character relationships, which aren't too hard to pick up on

@alm2587 although i’d recommend everyone to watch the full show cause even though s3 is my favorite out of the 4, the whole show is worth the watch, it’s a very unique, realistic and pretty minimalistic but stunningly made show about teens lifes (also each episode is no longer than 20 min). before creating the show the producers talked to a bunch of teens from different backgrounds to make the show. it’s so good

Omar “Simon” is actually an established singer. The show really helped put him into the spotlight but he was in a band years before he did the show as well. He’s also bulked up a tiny bit recently. He was such a skinny guy. I think he’s still touring, he came to the states but I’m not sure if his tour is over yet. It wasn’t a very long one. Edvin “Wilhelm” has been an actor pretty much his whole life, he’ll be in the new 28 years later movie. They both speak fluent English, Edvin doesn’t seem to have an accent at all which is pretty common with Swedes, about 98% of Swedish people speak fluent English. This is definitely no Heartstopper, I can’t wait for them to react to the hallway scene in season 3!

Young Royals is one of if not the best teen show to come out in the last decade, you guys are in for a crazy ride! Someone said it’s okay to use the English dub on this show and although it’s true the same actors do the voices, you still lose a lot in the performance by not watching it in the original language.Anyway can’t wait to see your next reaction!

This show is no safe Heartstopper, but I love it for its complexities, nuance and superb writing and acting, which will become more apparent as it goes along. I’m glad you dwelled on the “you could murder someone and no one would tell”. Yes a drunk teen aristocrat in the Swedish class culture being portrayed in this show would say that at a party where they feel only ‘they’ are there. Amongst the darkness there is light. Redemption arcs. Redemption arcs that fail. Ambiguous results, mixes of bad and good. The light shines more brightly amidst the dark.

I’m sat!!! I just finished your Agetha reactions and I’m thrilled that this is your next series! This show is an absolute masterpiece in acting, cinematography and writing. It’s a wonderful rollercoaster of emotions and deals with so many important topics well beyond sexuality. I can’t wait to watch you go on this journey. I think the emotions and acting hit a bit harder in Swedish and using subtitles but if they interfere with your ability to react then it’s ok to use English. The cool thing is that unlike most dubbed tv shows nearly the entire Swedish cast did their own English dubs so they are way better than most. I still think hearing the emotion in Swedish hits harder though since acting in the moment is a little different to reading the lines months later in a sound studio but the cast and show are incredible both ways. I did get mose used to the Swedish after a couple episodes and by season 2 I was even recognizing a number of Swedish words. Get ready to have cliffhangers and go on this wild ride. I hope people keep you spoiler free in the comments.

I LOVE that you’re watching this show. As amazing as Heartstopper is, and it is, this show is equally good in different ways. The writing, casting, cinematography, music, and especially the acting are absolutely incredible. Ervin Ryding’s performance as Wilhelm is breathtaking, in my opinion. And similar to Noe Locke in Heartstopper, this is Omar Rudberg’s first acting role, although he was already an accomplished singer and performer. I can’t wait to watch all 3 seasons of this with you. The emotional arc is an absolute rollercoaster. But at least you don’t have to wait a year and a half between seasons.

Really hope you guys react to Skam Season 3. There's no problem watching only Season 3 btw. It's a different main character in each season, and Season 3 follows a gay main character. It was 2016's Heartstopper popularity wise. Although it has a different, more grounded vibe. But great nonetheless. It's a Norwegian show.

Please, please do not switch to the dubbed English version. I know that the actors did their own dubbing, but it doesn't feel the same and it doesn't have the same nuances that the original Swedish does. I don't speak Swedish but I can certainly tell how flat the English version is compared to the original.

I will say this is the one show where I think it's fine to use the English dub because the English voiceover is actually all done by the original cast since they can speak English, so it still sounds natural and like the characters as it's the same actors just speaking in English! Stick with Swedish. The feeling behind the words doesnt translate, even though its the same actors. They were stood in front of a mic months later. The feeling in the moment didnt come thru. FYI: Edvin wasnt available to do the english voice-over for the final season. STICK WITH SWEDISH. Young Royals came out BEFORE Heartstopper and SKAM ( pronounced SKAH-M not scam, its Norwegian for SHAME) came first. SKAM is a fly on the wall type of show. Its not a polished looking show. Its very raw the way it looks. It was unique in that it was released in clips across an entire week. And with social media posts that followed the characters so you can read their conversations leading up to the video clips released. The clips were released at the timestamps shown on the screen. So there is boat loads of social media conversations. The combined clips were put together and shown as a completed episode on Friday nights. It was wildly popular that when the clips came out parties, bars, gatherings and clubs would stop and people would be on their phones watching the clips and then reading the social media posts. It was crazy. Now there are remakes all over Europe and even the US had a terrible version. The 1st 4 season of the re-makes were required to loosely follow the original Norwegian version.

This is definitely different from Heartstoppers, way more... um.... mature, I guess, if I'm being polite? I didn't like it as much, but it has its moments. Definitely go for the English voiceover. I wasn't that put off by the difference between their mouths moving and voices. Maybe go back and watch the first episode with English and see what you think before going on.
