That's an amazing output wow. When it comes to solar panels bigger is better :OP I was thinking of buying the 340-watt panel instead of having 5 panels maybe just having one or two.I don't need a huge array since I'm not running my whole house.

I have 8 Sungold Power 550w single facial panels on the roof of my motorhome. These bifacial ones look the same size as mine but are much heavier, having glass on both sides. I couldn't imagine myself, at 67 yrs. old lifting them on the roof of my motorhome like I did mine. It's a 2-man job for sure. That said, I'm sure you will be as happy with their performance as I am with mine.

Love these massive panels. Getting 560w actual from a single panel is insane. Too bad they stuck that specs label on the back blocking so many cells! Usually they’ve been putting little ones between the junction boxes.

@@BradCagle Absolutely crazy. After seeing that performance you were getting it makes me think my new array might have been current limited today. I was seeing 12.9 amps and the max output was 534W out of each 565W panel. They are at about 20 degrees facing south.

I picked up 2 580w panels and will need to mount them, they are massive. It was difficult enough mounting 250w panels by myself.

As it is Bifacial put something reflective on the other side with a 6-8inch gap to see if this improves production. It would be interesting to see if it makes a difference.

That is great news about experimenting with the bifacial panels. I wonder what sort of power they would generate being setup 90 degrees to the sun but with light, white reflectors reflecting into both sides of the panel. Much easier to move light reflectors than the solar panels...
@BradCagle
@BradCagle 3 ай бұрын
Man I really do want to play with some vertical bifacial. I've seen some experimentations with it, but I really think reflection from adjacent rows of panels may help, but I have not seen anyone experiment with multiple rows. Reflectors would be super fun. What do you think would be practical, and long lasting as reflector material? Thanks

@@BradCagle There is some corrugated plastic panels we can get at our Bunnings hardware store . They come in 8 x 4 sheets and various thickness from 3mm to 8mm. If you go for the 8mm (1/3") thick ones, however you will need a strong frame to support against even the gentlest of wind as they are super light. None the less, they are cheap, polypropylene I think and white. With this approach you can set the PV permanently in place and move the reflectors to adjust for optimal power. As you (and most of us) will mount a bifacial panel, there will be very little light coming in from the other side. Maybe this idea is just BS, but would be a very interesting experiment for bifacials.

Is there such a thing as too big, for a single panel? You would definitely want two people to safely install panels that big. Really impressive output, though!
@aldemar.bernal
@aldemar.bernal 3 ай бұрын
Why don't you install those in a vertical way facing west-east; I've heard they generated more in that way and they kept cleaner as well, even in winter they don't get blocked by snow. I think the reason those have those wind measurement is because they are mean to be installed vertically.

What really bothers me about this solar panel "power race" is that often the increases in power per panel are being driven by larger panels! Well duh! I have 15 year old panels on my roof and recently a company proposed replacing them with newer, higher power panels, but when I actually looked at the specs, my older panels were more efficient than the panels they were quoting, but theirs were bigger. Huh. I was actually impressed that mine were so efficient (and disappointed that the new ones were not more so).

university students in Toronto tracked about 10-12 different arrays that varied in size and cost. The end results where very interesting as the smallest and cheapest array almost made as much power as the largest and most expensive array, coming in at second place. The conclusion was that most of the panels didn't live up to the advertised efficiency. I wish I remembered the brand of the cheaper panels. 😢

@@4evermetalhead79 Both. Bifacials don’t have the center support and our slightly flimsier too. If you don’t have a white or mirror reflective surface behind bifacials and have them at least 3 to 5 feet off the ground you’re wasting your time thinking you’re going to get more power out of them. Stick with standard panels under 430 W and your back will last longer.
