Regarding why Hermione had to use Obliviate on her family, it was to keep her safe. It's unfortunate that they didn't give it more time in the movies, but they all made arrangements to keep their families safe. As for Harry, well... he has no family left so... yeah. Ron's family are powerful wizards, so they are able to go into hiding. Hermione's family are muggles so the only feasible way to keep them safe from the Death Eaters were to erase their memories of her. About Harry and Voldemort's wands, if you remember back in the 4th movie when Harry and Voldemort had that wand duel, there was a phenomenon called Priori Incantatem. This is what happens when two spells meet from two wands that share the same core. It's a very rare thing to happen, and it means that Voldemort isn't able to use his own wand to kill Harry. Also for the record, there are other instances in the movies where it seems like the same thing is happening (Voldemort and Harry in the sky earlier in this movie), but that never actually happens in the books. In the movies it's only for theatrics. The only time the two magic beams meet and have a showdown was in the 4th movie/book. The reason that Harry gets visions of Voldemort is because they are connected ever since that night he tried to kill him. Hence the reason he can also speak to snakes. Harry and Voldemort have always been able to see into each others minds. The Patronus you're thinking of is a stag (his dads), this one was a doe, a small difference but an important one. You'll learn more next movie. They really did Ron dirty in the movies. In the books he was screaming and freaking out trying to get to Hermione. In the movies he really doesn't react at all which is a shame. Voldemort doesn't have all the Hallows. He only has the wand, he actually doesn't even know about the Deathly Hallows, as most wizards don't. All he cared about was the Elder Wand because it's the strongest wand around. Looking forward to the final movie!! There is a lot that's missed in that movie, so I'll probably be explaining things on that one as well.

One thing they didn't explain in the film is that Voldemort put a spell called a Taboo on his name. Essentially, if you say his name, his supporters instantly know your location, and all protective charms are destroyed. In the book it's why the Snatchers find them, because Harry accidentally says Voldemort's name in a moment of thoughtlessness, and his supporters instantly appear outside their tent.

@@yoostephiee yeah he was still introduced in the second book. He had a fairly big role in the fourth book including he was the one who stole the gillyweed from Snape and gave it to Harry. Neville was not involved and he also was taking charge of this female house elf named winky who was responsible for Barney Jr. Getting away at the world cup. She was fired for losing track of him and she became an alcoholic and Dumbledore let her work in the Hogwarts kitchens but she was constantly drunk and the other elves just tried to cover her with like tea towels and Dobby was trying to find some work for her in the castle but she was just so depressed from being fired and I don't believe he had anything to do in three five or six. But yeah he was in seven just about as much as he was in the movie but they cut him out of some pretty significant things that he did and it just sucks cuz he's such a good character. @@yoostephiee I would suggest if you don't want to buy the books and like dive in cuz that'll take a long time to read through. Although I if you've already got them and just haven't read them, absolutely read them. But if you're a person who would rather have something read to you, I would suggest getting the audiobooks from either audible or your local library cuz there's a lot you miss out on with just watching the movies for instance, at the very end of the series we find out a little something about snape that makes everyone suddenly love him. I as a person who read all the books before watching all the movies. I still hate him because in the books he was far more abusive to a student's. He was the one who told the parents about lupin being a werewolf he also butt hurt about what James did to him as a kid and the fact that serious and Remus were his friends. He tried to get both of them, the dementor's kiss which is worse than death. Your soul is eviscerated digested by this monster, but your body is not killed, so you are just a husk of a person and he also was quite rapey with Harry's mom. He felt like since she was a muggleborn that he lowered himself to befriending. He was owed that vagina and since he never got it and his bully did he always felt like my bully stole my girlfriend even though he called her the m word which is what ended their friendship when he figured. Oh the dark lord wants to kill her kid. Perfect. I'll send him after her to murder her kid and her. Hopefully her husband so I can nail her on the rebound and then he realized oh that won't work out. So oh, I guess we have to protect them too. He's not a good person. He did a couple of good things but he's a terrible person there is so much in the books that was not in the movies. Also, bobatons and durmstrong are not single sex schools. Both of them had both sexes like Hogwarts but the movies for some f****** reason decided. Oh the girl from bobatons is a champion and a boy from durmstrong is a champion. Oh, there's no need for other people of the opposite sex to be there because their headmaster had mistress is the same gender as their champion. No need for anyone of the opposite sex to be there I guess. No no no no. No that's not how it works. Just because Hogwarts had a male champion in Cedric and a male champion in Harry doesn't mean that magically there's no need for any female in the school like yeah Hermione and Ginny and all them were allowed to exist

I think what is really important to understand about Rons character is that his biggest insecuriy is always being the second choice. It's explored a lot more detailed in the book, but essentially him being the youngest son in his family he always had that preassure of living up to his older brothers and feeling like his Mom loved him the least, because after all those boys she wanted a daughter. And then obviously bein famous Harry Potters best friend, he gets overlooked quite a lot in that regard too, which was also the cause of Ron bein mad at Harry in the goblet of fire. So then Hermione and Harry being so close and the Horcrux telling him how he's nothing next to Harry Potter is basically his deepest insecurities playing out
@Mike-di1og

RIP Dobby Minor correction but Voldemort does not have the Deathly Hallows, he only has the wand. Harry has the cloak that belonged to his dad. The stone, who knows? Voldemort most likely does not even know what the Deathly Hallows are-in the books they are kind of an obscure conspiracy theory type of thing that Dumbledore believed in especially when he was young. It’s one reason he took the wand from Grindelwald and why he borrowed the cloak from James before he gave it to Harry. Voldemort knows about the wand because it’s much more high profile of an artifact so it has its own legends surrounding it due to the bloody history.
@nanp00p67

Another detail implied in the books is that the original brother who owned the invisibility cloak was Harry’s ancestor, and the cloak was passed down through the family. The other two hallows were always stolen or taken from their owners, as the story told. Harry and Hermione see the grave of the Brother in godrics hollow, near the graves of his parents. This is another clue

As a full time Potterhead who has read all the books several times over, it always hits me right in the icky spot to hear ppl dunk on Ron, or Harry and Ginny’s relationship, or Ron and Hermione’s relationship, when in the books they are all so much better fleshed out and believable (especially Ron’s storming off), but I’m willing to let that slide for Brad’s personality trumping it.

I've always liked Ron's moodiness in the movies because that's realistic. A teenaged boy is going to act like a teenaged boy. Harry and Hermione are focused because they don't really have anyone to worry about. Meanwhile, Ron has six siblings and his parents (who are also known as the family who helps out Harry Potter). Of course he's afraid for them every day. Also, the movie doesn't do a good job of showing how long it takes them to find the horcruxes. He's frustrated and injured and wearing the necklace, so he's going to be annoyed at them.

Harry and Hermione dancing together in the tent is still my favorite moment in all the eight movies. In that moment, they were simply kids trying to find comfort in one another in a very dark world as they listen to Muggle music, which is one of the major things that they have in common and doesn't in any way involve anything magical compared to the rest of their friends. It's that kind of connection that others won't ever begin to understand, and it purely symbolizes their platonic love. They remain my favorite friendship in any book or movie or television show, even if I did, at some point, ship them together because the movies did such a wonderful job with that compared to the books, but them as siblings is a much better representation of their relationship, so I must digress...

Draco feels like he does not have a choice. He feels trapped, especially since his own house is home to death eaters and voldemort, and if he tried to leave and switch sides his family would probably be killed. I have a soft spot for characters like Draco. He's a victim of child abuse who became a bully, and struggled with right and wrong his entire childhood. The expectations placed on him, the dark influence of his dad and then other Death Eaters...It's really not shocking the way he behaved. He was on a dark path but he still risked his own safety by pretending he didn't recognize Harry...He might not have openly defied Voldemort, but that still took courage and showed a willingness to do the right thing.
@cristinacasadomusic

@@lilscenechick1995 Absolutely! Draco knew love from his mom, and even though his dad loved him however he could, he was draco's biggest influencer. He was cold and was not shy of showing his disappointment to Draco. Draco was taught to believe in the pureblood supremacy since he was born, and was never introduced to anything that could change that belief. It makes sense why he was a bully, when you understand that things are not black and white and that Draco is literally a child seeking his father's approval. Same for becoming a death eater. He is a kid still, and is threatened with his mother's safety, while his dad is in prison. That is a lot to go through.

I feel like Brad's perception of Ron suffers from watching the movies and not reading the books since it is well known that Ron was completely shafted in the films because the director wanted to give Hermione more attention and didn't like Ron or the fact that he ends with Hermione over Harry. But to give some context; Ron throughout the books is constantly overshadowed by his family (he does have like five older brothers) and then Harry and Hermione once they become friends. He doesn't let it get in the way a lot, but it's constantly there throughout the series. Ron ends up wearing the Horcrux the most and, like most dark magic, it affects those in its proximity a bit like the one Ring in LOTR. The locket shows you your worst wears and amplified yours fears, insecurities, and worst thoughts. The film doesn't really show it but Ron wore the Horcrux for MONTHS. Ron was basically carrying a piece of Voldemort around for months, having it constantly prod at his insecurities and infecting him slowly. He wanted to protect Harry and Hermione from wearing it, not realising how much it was warping him for months on end. Ron getting splinched is also way more serious since he quite literally lost chunks of his arm and loses a lot of blood. His injuries are far more worse in the books, which the Horcrux also prays upon by making him feel weak and useless compared to Harry. Nevermind the fact that what little food they managed to scavenge they have to use a multiplying spell or something on to make more, but it loses nutritional value as it goes. So Ron is badly injured, suffering from blood loss, sleep deprivation, the influence of a super dark magical necklace constantly, malnourishment, terrified his family will be murdered because of him bringing Harry into their lives in the first place, and has all his normal insecurities being amplified to boot. Ron has a lot going on that makes his mental decline make a lot more sense in the books than the films translated. As someone who loved Ron in the books and Rupert Grint as an actor, the films did Ron so dirty and I think you'd love him way more in the books.

I'll never understand anyone who doesn't understand Ron's insecurities and jealousy bouts, because I swear that (despite finding it exaggerated at times) I can relate so much! especially as a teenager 😂 (I think it has something to do with being the middle child... and also never feeling like he gets attention and is valued because he's constantly surrounded by people who stand out more, like, all of Ron's brothers and the sister have talents or personalities that make them stand out, while he is known only for being friends with people who stand out 👁️

Love your reactions, as always! I rarely laugh out loud when I watch something, but I do when I watch your reaction. Some help: The deathly hallows are the elder wand(Voldy got it now), the resurrection stone and the invisibility cloak(do we know someone who has an invisibility cloak?). Also, the patronus at the lake was a doe(the female of a stag). Something beautiful about the patronus charm is that your patronus can take the form of the patronus of the person you truly love. Harry loves his dad, so his patronus is the same as his dad's, a stag.

In the book Hermione was unconscious and couldn't have even tried to help Dobby. The wound was made by Bellatrix's blade and probably couldn't have been healed anyway since the knife probably had dark spells on it. I wish they hadn't left out Kreacher's character arc as well. Since you don't want to give Rowling money, you can listen to the books here on youtube. Several people have done live readings of them. You'd think different about several characters after listening to them but especially Ron. They really assassinated his character in the movies. Ron was injured, starving, tired and the horcrux was playing on all of his insecurities.

26:30 I completely agree. I think that Hermione is too good for Ron. Even the writer of the books said that they kinda regret not having hermione and Harry end up together, but that they felt that they would be too powerful of a couple, and didn’t want to leave out characters like Ron and Ginny in the ending so they paired them with Harry and Hermione instead

There's an irl memorial site for Dobby at the beach where the scene was shot. I hear there were a few too many fans leaving things (clothes, mostly [heart shatters]) and they had to ask people to stop low key building a mountain of clothes on a beach, but it's still allowed to stay so it's still there last I heard. I saw a picture taken by another youtuber who went to visit, and somebody had left a baby sock and for some reason that made me cry for like five solid minutes xp

I really like this line said at the very beginning of Half Blood Prince. Rufus Scrimgeour and Cornelius Fudge go to the new muggle Prime Minister to tell him that Voldemort is back and explain that he is the reason all these terrible things are happening in the Muggle world as well: “But for Heaven’s sake-you’re wizards! You can do magic! Surely you can sort out-well-anything!” “Scrimgeour turned slowly on the spot and exchanged an incredulous look with Fudge who really did manage a smile this time as he said kindly, “The trouble is, the other side can do magic too, Prime Minister.” Essentially, magic isn’t infallible, but also that for every curse there isn’t a counter curse. Magic changes all the time, as it is well-established in the book that people can make up their own spells, like Snape did with ‘Sectumsempra’ and “Levicorpus” in Half Blood Prince. When Nagini bit Ron’s dad, they didn’t know what was wrong with him as the bite was cursed, so they kept him in the hospital for a few weeks trying different things. Also, the snake coming out of the old woman was far more horrifying in the book. Her house smelled like rotting meat and the snake was actually inside Bathilda’s dead body and when she jumped at Harry, the snake actually came out of where her neck had been. Harry is so horrified by it that he wouldn’t tell Hermione about it. It’s pretty awful.

30:54 Basically, the word _patronus_ is Latin in origin, and Latin has this thing called grammatical case, where noun phrases get different endings based on their function in the sentence. In the case of _patronus,_ the accusative form is _patronum,_ and accusative just means it’s the direct object of a verb. And in the incantation “expecto patronum”, the verb is, of course, _expecto,_ meaning “I’m awaiting” or “I’m expecting”, while _patronus/um_ is something like “protector” or “guardian”. And *that’s* why it’s “Patronus” for the spell name, but “patronum” for the incantation. :)

I'm sorry but I have to rant about something as a diehard Potterhead real quick lmao. It's always grated me that this movie (which I love - it's one of my favourites in the franchise) changes how Harry and Ron escape the Malfoys' dungeon. Its *such* an important plot point in the series - Harry invokes the fact that he saved Pettigrew's life in Prisoner of Azkaban and Pettigrew is strangled by the magical hand given to him by Voldemort in Goblet of Fire, because of some very old, very powerful magic that we don't really understand (like how Harry is protected by Lily's sacrifice or you die if you break an unbreakable vow). But instead, the movie gives us Dobby (off-screen) stunning Pettigrew from behind. Why?? Why did they do this?? Nothing is gained and so much is lost. It's just such an unnecessary change and it takes away something that imo was really powerful. But rant over!! Love the video Brad!!! ✨️
