Bradford fire: Firefighters tackle huge blaze near railway

Trains have been cancelled and roads closed after a large blaze broke out near the railway in Bradford.
More than 70 firefighters were tackling the scrap tyre fire on Upper Castle Street.
Dramatic images were posted on social media of smoke and flames billowing from the scene.

It has been estimated that the fire has caused £18 million worth of improvements to the centre of Bradford.

In Aberdeen, (when we had a fishing industry) we often used to get Fish-processing factories mysteriously going up in flames. These places were always cold, full of crushed ice, soaking wet, etc. So what made then so highly inflammable? A low turnover usually!!!

These fires involving tyres always produce a lot of evil coloured smoke - we had one years ago in the 80's in the town where I live, and the black smoke is awful. Glad nobody was hurt.

This isn't the first time a scrap tyres yard has caught fire. There was on near the M1, on FA Cup Final day some time ago. These places need better regulations. 🙄

So far there has been £5.00 worth of damage to the city centre, the fire service do not expect it to reach £10.00, but the local insurance companys are bracing themeselves as they anticipate claims to be in the billions of pounds. The local council are also readying themselves as they expect millions of people to declare themselves homeless and need rehousing.
