The design would’ve suited the battle fields of World War One………

@@elseascotty9346if you've ever seen video footage of the disaster (unlikely because you're so ignorant) you'd know that little kids and old people had to be evacuated as well. Fit policemen helped them but the flames set on extremely quickly at a packed stadium. Everyone had to leave within seconds and they did. I will wager money on a 100% chance bet that if you were there you'd have died because only terminally online, unathletic nobodies comment this shit.

The intensity and speed at which that fire grew was simply astonishing. RIP to the 56

Looking at the design in detail makes it seem almost miraculous that the death toll didn't run into the hundreds.

Luckily there was no protective fence on the pitch side.

@@f-tech5497 probably most everyone in those stands would have died if there was Hillsborough like fencing

Wooden bleachers with trash underneath, and spectators allowed to smoke - what could go wrong?

No stewards, police not trained on Fire emergency situations, Fire exit exit doors locked.....

@Pugna So you say this fire had nothing to do with smoking, but it was started by a cigarette. Yeah, right.

When it went wrong at footie matches back in the 1980s, boy was it scary! Even crowd crushes could scare the bejesus out of you if you got caught up at the wrong place/wrong time. Bradford, Hillsborough & Heysel were all terrifying & believe me there were scores of near misses back then an' all.

Never try to race a fire uphill. Never go "up" when a fire's in a tunnel - the smoke will kill you there. Get low, and move FAST. Never follow the crowd.

Wood wasn't the problem - so much as the varnish on it. Hold a cigarette lighter up to solid wood - nothing will happen. Hold it up to wood that's been given formaldehyde on purpose to resist bugs, stained, varnished, and oiled year after year, for liquid repelling and - Woosh! The entire thing is a perfect wind tunnel AND a chimney, due to the exits high in the back that won't shut. Plenty of wooden stadiums still exist. This was (innocently) poor design. And a perfect storm of circumstances. RIP. :(
