I've fallen in love with vintage iron since I got my grandma's rusted pan that she used daily... my mom failed to care for it and I brought it back to life and have been obsessed ever since. I've got a couple of cast-iron skillets from my grandma when she was first married. I can verify she was using them daily until she went into a nursing home and they are excellently seasoned. When I use them they taste of history, and they are the perfect size to make a small batch of skillet corn bread. Dang, now I'm hungry for skillet corn bread!

I've had the same cast iron skillet for over 10 days. My last one lasted approximately six months. The secret to a long lasting skillet like my own is long, overnight soaking, followed by heavy scrubbing with a stainless steel sponge.
