This is a song (along with any AC/DC track) that my dad would “perform” whenever he heard it. Supermarket, job site or dinner table it didn’t matter. He never could sing but he sure knew how to embarrass me. I can’t wait to do that with my kids 😈

I won't be having kids in this lifetime so I won't be able to pass on the legacy. My father was also an "embarrass the kids' master. I remember shopping in a jewelry store for earrings as xmas presents and my dad's over in the corner trying to open an umbrella without using two hands, just air pressure, WHOOOM! WHOOOM!!!

George Thorogood and the (Delaware) Destroyers was ostensibly named after the semi-pro 35+ baseball team. "A former second baseman with the semi-pro Delaware Destroyers, Thorogood has multiple gold records to go with his baseball pedigree, not to mention a reputation as one of the best live performers on the blues-and-rock circuit.

Awesome song and reaction. This song was dedicated to John Lee Hooker. I knew George Thorogood's old guitar tech. He told me some stories. John Lee Hooker, stuttered, except when he sang. A few of Thorogood's songs were John Lee's songs, House Rent Blues, One Bourbon One Scotch, One Beer, to name a couple.

I grew up in Delaware back in the 70s when George's first records were released and he was playing small clubs around town. In 1978, I saw him play for 2 1/2 hours with a broken collarbone (baseball accident) at the University of Delaware. Hank Carter was in the Rocket 88 Blues band that was opening for George and Hank joined him onstage that night for one of the first times.

I’ve been lucky enough to see George and his Delaware Destroyers 3 times in person. Believe me he most DEFINITELY sings and plays his guitar. He is easily one of the most underrated lead guitarists and singers of all time. His concerts are fantastic. I’ve seen a video of a guy being electrocuted while playing his guitar on stage. I wish I could recall the band. It was a classic rock band for sure. He was hospitalized with pretty severe burns. Someone else will remember for sure. Great job!

I kind of remember six, me my green wind 5,000 lb bike with chopper handlebars and a sissy bar in fact.abanna seat as well.... the fantasy with cards and spokes of the sound of a moterbike..evil kenevl.... 👍 At 6 years old I had already seen Jan and Dean after James accident on Dead Man's curve, Jefferson airplane, Three dog night, kiss in 1975, The Beach boys, Blue oyster cult, and a lot of others I've seen aces between whatever I'm not trying to brag, George Thor good though it's so lovely because he's kickback but he's kind of like Southern fried Georgia type blues, and he tells exactly what he means.... Cuz you know if I had about five of those triple shots of that stuff, and my mouth was getting pretty dry, cuz I knew I was getting pretty high, I would also probably go back there, and tell her hey I got a job! And yeah you get your money next Friday or few days later I'm not sure, how's that work with you just turns out to be all love you guys so he packs his things and he gets goes and he said of course you should know should be lucky to get him from let alone any back rent, if you like him my suggestion to you look up Stevie Ray Vaughan and fall in love love y'all guys I'm going to keep on listening

You will also hear this song on the 90s sitcom "Married with Children" , This was Al Bundy;s theme for whenever he thought he would be cool. It was at least 2 or 3 episodes a year that they used this. It is one of the most famous and instantly recognized songs and styles in the business. George Thoroughgood is an expert at "using the dots" on the neck of the guitar. Slide is a tricky technique, but after learning how to hold the slide and such, this is a very easy song to play.
@mikefetterman6782
@mikefetterman6782 2 жыл бұрын
He does use a pick but he usually uses a tube of glass or steel to slide on a finger to slide up and down the neck. Electric shock through a guitar usually happens when combining instrument and microphone and touching both at the same time with a little juice leak somewhere and your hair will stand up, for quite a while.

Ol' Lonesome George does a combo of slide and picking on this and a bunch of other songs.He likes to do what he feels in the moment. Early in his career, '79-'80, he did a tour with his band, The Delaware Destroyers, called 50 States in 50 Dates. They did the entire USA in 50 days, driving a Checker Marathon Yellow Taxi the whole time in the continental US. That is being a road dog.

Every ship in the US Navy has a 'pull away' song that they play on the 1MC (ships interior intercom & exterior speaker system) when they detach from another ship, a pier or from formation...it's a declarative to those in witness of this separation. The USS LaSalle's pull away song was this song, as the USS LaSalle was an all white(paint scheme not race) ship known as the Great White Ghost of the Arabian Coast. In either 1989 or 1990 (I forget which) the LaSalle was doing a cruise through the Straits of Hormuz on route to a port call in Muscat, Oman. Joining the LaSalle through this leg of the journey (LaSalle was the command ship for the 5th Fleet) was a couple of Destroyers and 2 Frigates, 1 from the UK and 1 from Australia. The 2 foreign ships were practicing replenishing maneuvers by pulling up alongside the LaSalle and then breaking away to repeat the maneuver again and again. The Signalmen of the LaSalle kept requesting they play their breakaway song, which they were dumbfounded as to what that meant. So just as the LaSalle was approaching the narrowest part of the passing, where NATO ships hug the coastline to put as much distance between themselves and Iranian coast, the Captain had the crew play LaSalle's pull away song as the ship went into flank speed and at a very high volume, insuring not only the two Frigate escorts could hear, but getting a reaction from the Destroyer crew and people on shore as well. The reaction as this song was played was epic, and forever imprinted into my memory recall everytime I hear this song played. Brilliant song, Great reaction, lovely trip down memory lane! Thank you!

Yes, electrocution is possible from an electric guitar this happened back in the day before three prong plugs was a thing because the amp was not properly grounded and the two prong plug could be plugged in upside down reversing the polarity of the electrical current. Two examples of over a dozen (1)1976, Keith Relf, who used to play for The Yardbirds, was electrocuted by his guitar while playing in his basement. (2) KISS guitarist Ace Frehley's on-stage electrocution sparked some creativity. After nearly dying during a 1976 show - he placed his hand on railing and his guitar accidentally completed an electrical circuit - Frehley said his life passed before his eyes. The experience was so profound that it inspired his next song, "Shock Me."

Some people train to be a badass, some people learn to be a badass the hard way. I'm thoroughly convinced that George was just born that way. The nurse said so.

I love both of you, but I must say, every time I see Lex react to guitars and changes of tempo and surprise instrumentation, it thrills me no end! Not to mention how she totally feels the music and expresses it with her body movements and facial expressions. I know you guys like a lot of different types of music beyond what you grew up with, but she's a closet rocker, I guarantee it... 😁🎶 As for how he plays guitar, he learned to play very basic but effective chords and techniques for his songs and improved upon his skills as he went. Additionally, there is a lot of slide guitar sound in this song, so in a way you could say that it does indeed sound like it's being played "with his bones", not a bad simile at all. You're probably fixated about New Orleans because his music is very bluesy, but that type of Mississippi delta influence has affected many artists from other places such as Led Zeppelin. So get it out of your mind, think instead working class Bronx or Southside Chicago.

When bands do outdoor shows, there is almost always a roof over the stage, the guitarists are very paranoid about getting electrocuted if it were to start raining

You can get electrocuted via electric guitar if you are using a guitar cable. If you are using a wireless.....pretty much impossible unless someone else is being electrocuted at a given moment and is touching their microphone and then YOU go to sing while all this is going on.....so, probably not. BUT, with a guitar cord plugged in, there are all kinds of grounding issues that can electrocute and kill you.

You can get electrocuted if power comes back up the cable from the amp. Guitar pickups create an electrical current which is fed to the amplifier, they don't use power
