Building a Kart for YOU! | Part 1 | OTK Restoration

I asked my Twitter followers: "If you could get a complete, totally race-ready kart for under £1,200 to race in the new GX-UK series, would you?"
And so many people said "YES!", that I agreed to make it happen. A high-quality, competitive OTK kart built / restored from scratch on a sensible budget - which will be up for sale for the price I promised from the moment Part 2 drops next week.
In Part 1, you see me battling through some common issues with a well used Tony Kart (Alonso) chassis, and trying to make sure it's absolutely spot-on for the new owner.
In Part 2, you'll see the engine, bodywork, stickers - all the exciting finishing touches, as well as the first fire-up and drive.

Great shout. I will make sure I do that. Same with tape around the keyways on the rear axle. Small things which help avoid disasters.

I'm a father of 3 boys. We have a decent little yeard kart I've built for my kids. They love ripping it around and I'm a kid at heart to, so I love it as well. Recently I've been looking into buying a 100cc 2 stroke kart, but omg. They are typically 5k and up. I just can't afford it. Every wanna donate akart to me. I'd take it. 😂😂, just make sure it can hold and take me for a ride. I'm 250 pounds of dad.. Awesome video.

No GXUK for me as I live no where near anywhere that It is raced! I’d love to get into Rotax Juniors or Seniors (I’m 15). I’ve been helping my cousin out with his karting for a couple years now and my love for the sport grows every day as I’ve made so many friends in this amazing community aswell

Nice you have obviously done some sort of engineering before...or then again, maybe you have not. Sand paper? more like Emery cloth...

I’ve dabbled over the years - radio control cars when I was younger for example - but I’m really learning as I’m going with these, so totally open to suggestions and comments.

@@BradPhilpot would have used just the emery cloth and not the drill. Other than that you are doing very well. Refurbishing anything I would personally use all new bolts.

@@TheNorville2there was a LOT of rust that’s all, and the wire brush on the drill worked wonders. For normal amounts of small surface rust I’d use an emery cloth for sure. The drill method is nice and fast though for a massive job!

@@TheNorville2for my own “no expense spared” build, I’ve replaced every nut and bolt. For this one, it had to be on a budget - so I’ve taken a view on keeping some nuts and bolts and replacing others. I just don’t have a massive budget for this one otherwise it would have to be sold for more money. But I’ve replaced anything that needed it for sure. It’s not a FULL restoration like my last video of the green tonykart.

One that sounds like that and has no play in it or excess grease in it are just lubed on day with proper kart bearing lube and rotate more freely than new ones in imho..
