@@tmgcoand don’t forget Reid, who has designed an entire offense around mahomes ability to make off script plays. Weird how no one ever acknowledges this lol. Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of coaches who will design plays that cater to their mobile qbs by leaving space to one side of field and pulling defenders out but what makes reids design particularly interesting is due to Mahomes alien like ability to avoid sacks and gets outside the pocket and throw on the run he is able to focus on scheming up looks for receivers that don’t clog up soft spots when covered which is in anticipation of Mahomes breaking out of the pocket. The whole offense is designed to give Mahomes multiple options on any given play.. even down to the shovel passes and delay routes. It’s fckjng beautiful. There’s a method to the madness. In no way am I discrediting mahomes ability’s, he’s a literal alien but from our view and from the defenses view it purposefully looks unstructured, he is banking on defenders to go for Mahomes when he gets outside, that’s the only way it works and Mahomes is the only qb that can pull it off. I hate em but gd I respect Reid/mahomes
@tmgco
@tmgco 4 ай бұрын
@@dersnichols6914 Reid has always had mobile quarterbacks, McNabb and Vick at Philadelphia and then Smith and now Mahomes at KC. I think that he likes them because when the called play is well defended the qb can take off and improvise. One would have to have an insider’s knowledge of Reid’s offense and Mahomes’ responsibilities in it to effectively rate his performance. It may be that his uncanny physical skill set is making up for the lack of intellectual ability that Brady has eluded to. But that’s something only studying the postgame film would reveal.

This was evident to me watching the chiefs vs Ravens in the conference championship. Ravens o line was ranked top 3, and made a case for being #1 that game. They were giving Lamar 5-6 seconds in the pocket throughout the game. Lamars probably the most gifted athlete/rusher we've seen at QB, but struggles greatly/is below average at reading defenses post snap and going through his reads. The chiefs played 3 high safety prevent almost the entire second half, and despite this late in the fourth Lamar goes for a deepshot (worst option against 3 high safety prevent) to likely into triple coverage that gets picked off. It was a textbook example of what youre talking about. A dude can be an absolute stud athletically/talent wise, but the mental part of game is what wins the big games, or superbowls.

That's mainly due to faster defensive lineman. Teams went away from pro style to the spread offense. 11 personell is the default offensive set up, your edge rushers are hybrid players, light in the ass. 8 in the box throw the pass, 7 in the box run the ball.
@turns2ashes

There’s a an opportunity though. Defenses are getting light weight these days so a really good run heavy team with a savvy pocket passer who can pull off play action could steam roller some of those teams. But it’s not flashy and it doesn’t encourage the best recruits to join your program. The running back is also an endangered species these days.
@curtisjordan5303
@curtisjordan5303 4 ай бұрын
@@turns2ashes I think college football still loves RBs but, now QBs are often your best athletes. In my opinion they do play action even better because QBs are a real threat on the ground. A bootleg can turn into a 20yrd completion or rush based off how the defense plays it. QB who is a dual threat can have the PAP affect even when that's not the play call. As soon as a defender has to honor the run, the QB is dictating the defenders response/position on the field. I think pure pocket guys are done though. They must have a little wiggle at least. Penix, Tua, Goff, Stafford, Stoudemire are the pocket passer archetypes, not great runners but, able to get out of dodge in the right situations.
@turns2ashes
@turns2ashes 4 ай бұрын
College teams have essentially combined the running back and QB position. But, what we then get is weaker passers when they hit the NFL. They aren’t as fast compared to DBs as they were in college so unless they are a complete freak it doesn’t translate to pro level
@curtisjordan5303
@curtisjordan5303 4 ай бұрын
@@turns2ashes it doesn't always have to be that way. Aaron Rogers is mobile, Big Ben, Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott, Steve Young. All great athletes who also can throw the ball. Guys like Eli and Flacco could run when needed in their prime. If that's what these guys can develop too, that's not a bad thing. Also being a pure passer doesn't translate to the NFL at the same rate as the freak athletes. And just as many draft busts if not more. Got to add Luck and Burrow in there too.

Then all he had to do was toss the ball up in the air within 20 feet of Gronk and he'd catch it. Go back and watch clips. How many times did Brady throw perfect passes right into recievers hands? He didn't. He didn't have to be accurate. He threw lousy passes most of the time that he was lucky enough to have all time big WRs and TEs be able to catch them. I'm going to say this as a Football coach. There are Football coaches who are guilty of the same thing and put their teams in bad positions. I give my LBs at the HS level the ability to kill a play because of what the offense does or shows, and it drove the micromanaging HC nuts. "Why didn't they Blitz?" Me, because the offense showed Jet Sweep and we kill all blitzes on Sweeps. If we blitz we have no outside contain and that leaves a CB to make the play or the Safety who is 10 yds off the ball.

That described not only Tribusky but Mahomes Allen mariota richardson quarters when they came could make progressive reads. At time of draft Tribusky was highest rated passer he gets all sorts of hell now but at that draft Mahomes had a 6.31,draft grade was thought to be a project and Mahomes was first air raid quarterback that broke through he had that stigma one thing helped Mahomes Reid dumped his beloved west coast offense and went with a air raid concept offense to help Patrick succeed. Only other team to run this offense were patriots. Patriots were known to adjust thier offense not only season to season but play by play always changing when Josh Daniel’s were running offense. He may have been terrible head coach but he knew how to to put together imaginative offenses for patriots. Of quarterbacks in this class I like penix and McCarthy they have the nfl tight window ability and both are cerebral on field calm don’t get flustered. Mayecaxeorknin progress. Cb great talent but plays outside of structure and nfl is all about structure., Daniel’s scares me my body looks more durable than his love his arm and timing but cringe soon as I see a linebacker blitzing and leveling him. One thing college is fun nfl hurts and full of pain. Sundays are easy it’s the Mondays and Tuesday how your body recuperates from the punishment. Look cousins signed with Atlanta he saw a good offensive line no one took impactful hits line he did last two years! Look at quarterbacks who are signing elsewhere few are signing where teams have porous offensive lines save for Darnell and he merely wants to start.

@@sheepshead17 Arod is my all time fav QB but I agree. I say the same thing, he’s the best thrower of the ball all time but he lacked the leadership traits that separated Brady from the rest. Aaron would rely on Davante Adams too much because it was too easy. Then comes the playoffs and he plays a good, well coached team that obviously focused on shutting his WR1 down and now he has to fall back on a bunch of receivers he avoided as much as possible because they dropped a couple passes.

It puzzles me that people can't figure out how Brady was so successful, im a Dolphin fan and watched this guy overcome just about any possible scenario We'd pressure him in the first half 3 sacks 5 knockdown, 7 pressures and they'd score maybe 7 points And I'd always say better switch shit up cause he's going to adjust , second half comes ? 0 sacks a couple of hurries and 3 td passes Master chess player with a great arm and impeccable accuracy

I think this is also an indictment of analytics based play calling. Brady alluded to the coaches “playing chess” and “playing probabilities” to decide what may happen instead of allowing QB’s to react to what the defense is showing and audible. I think that coaches in most sports now think that putting players into situations that benefit them on a statistical level has replaced coaching them to anticipate and adapt to particular situations. I see this in baseball and basketball as well. Coaches and managers have a pre set plan of attack and just want players to blindly follow the plan because they have computed a statistical advantage to a specific play or strategy. Coaches think it’s easier to plug someone into the system than to coach them to make decisions.

Analytics v in game instincts. Coaches have to give QBs license to make best options. If they can't think on their feet they're finished with speed modern offensive linesman

@@ikeaneke5970 that would be funny. They are given advantage in the rules now to put best atlrere at qb and pressure thd defense in one onnone battles. They give him the"checkdown" at which to look if primary isn't open. This is almost a roboqb with thought being handled by a former 3rd team qb who lacked physical skillset to play at highest competeive levels.
@wesleyausborn4256

Take that EXTRA uf then or 2 that Brady could add to his reaction to a play call and it broadens each play even more than ever since that was a between series discussion go be incorporated into the possible calls as opposed to added to each specific cdll. It dies elevate a 1 orv2 read qb who was great in college but unable to adapt to NFL game so much that it propels the athlete tic skills into a much higher importance. N I w an atlete with decent short-term memory recall goes from mediocre to dangerous. Let's bring the communications into the broadcast like a NASCAR team can be followed during a race. Then, anybody who scoffs at my commentary would have mouthful of crow. That's the best kept secret that so many don't want to acknowledge and until Brady gets offended by this misperception as if it was simply opportunities not given or it would have already been like this, the world would already believe the lies history is being rewritten to tell.

I try telling everyone this all the time, that I'd rather have Brady making the right reads and calling the right plays, and being un sackable cause he processes information quickly and gets rid of the ball quickly, as well as throws covered people open, which imo he was the best ever at, than someone who can't do those things but has the athletic ability to scramble and buy receivers time to get open as well as the arm talent to then make up for the throws they failed making in the first place...
