My last rig I worked on until I retired. I think this must have been her penultimate contract, as far as I know. Dana Petroleum picked up the rig in Teeside after she had undergone a 5 year inspection and we went North to the "Western Isles" field location. Initial drilling went well but completions ran into difficulties and after 18 months or so the rig was stood down off hire around Christmas time 2015. One of the oldest rigs in the North Sea at that time she was a real workhorse with a great crew.

Seeing that basket swing off the rig brought back bad memories. My dad worked for Bethleham Steel many years ago. He was on a basket pre- paring to go over. Another man got on but without a life jacket. My dad gave him his life jacket and got off to wait till next time. The basket swung over and something malfunctioned. The basket fell to the barge. I cant remember all the injuries but it was bad. Not sure my dad ever got over that.

I’m sorry to hear that. Maybe it was after that accident they made those baskets transports a voluntary thing.

This rig is now "retired" but had been operating continuously since 1975. That's a whole lot of work for one rig.
@LucasIvarsson6 жыл бұрын
Did you work there?
@labarone89106 жыл бұрын
No, I just looked it up and searched for it on AIS and it shows it "retired" somewhere in the North Sea area..

Figure me stupid, but how do you get the chaser rings back once the anchor is dropped? Or the cable for that matter?
@spooky36694 жыл бұрын
A buoy is attached to the cable to retrieve the anchor again. When the anchor is set the vessel sails to the oil rig pulling the chaser away from the anchor following the chain to the rig.
@bobrodgersonsmostlymotorcy92654 ай бұрын
The chaser rings Chains and lines are bought back to the rig and secured at the lower fairleads. The chaser chain and line is tied off. When the rig is ready to move the line is handed back to the Anchor handler who then chases it back along the anchor chain to the anchor. The anchor handler connects the chaser chain to it's winch and lifts the anchor off the sea bed then the rig winches in the anchor and stows it at the lower fairlead.
@bobrodgersonsmostlymotorcy92654 ай бұрын
I meant to say that the chaser line is secured at deck level on the rig so that it can be picked up by the rig crane for transfer to the Anchor Handler.

What is bunkering ?
@LucasIvarsson4 жыл бұрын
It’s a word for taking on large amounts of fluids on a ship. In this case the rig wanted to bunker fresh water.

Why don't oil rigs have desalinators? Why depend on another source of water?
@hakonlvestadhunskar39765 жыл бұрын
They usually have that.
@lachlanlandreth90693 жыл бұрын
Often it is slow, and energy intensive. So it may only be a few liters a minute. So it can be easier to fill the tanks up full. Also some de-sals can make very hard water.

Too much harsh music, This wasn't Batman returns to handle anchors! You could have either annotated or narrated what was happening. scene changes were way to fast also,good try though.

AriVovp All that is happening is part of ‘the move’. The loading of anchors, the bunkering, the towing, setting up the anchors.

FYI............... 1960's United States, the state of Louisiana....Oil company's with Off shore Supply Tug's\ Vessels operating in the GOM [Gulf Of Mexico] because of the danger etc. anchor crews were made up of State Prison Inmates.... They were cheap labor and if they were hurt badly or caused problem it was e-z to just throw him overboard into the GOM....And go back to prison for endless replacement pool. I operated in the GOM 78-81 Running 200ft anchor vessels, loved my job!
