Sometimes, I get a lump in my throat, listening to Band Maid perform, especially acoustic versions of their songs. It is like a proud papa listening to his daughter nailing her recital. I think part of that deep feeling comes from being aware that Japanese society, and the music industry, is very male dominant. I love the fact that the band is now free of their ties to old production companies, and now fully in charge of their recordings and show schedules. They continue to grow, but not apart as many bands do by the end of the first decade together.

Michael - Thank You for your reaction. It is always encouraging to hear a reactor began to appreciate the Maids as much as we do. I think one of the things I appreciate most about this amazing band (Mear: "this F'ing Band"), is that they get SO MUCH JOY out of performing their music (which of course motivates them to be SO GOOD). Beyond that, they get SO MUCH JOY out of performing with each other (if you watch their live videos, you will see them watching each other with big smiles). And beyond that, they get SO MUCH JOY out of performing their music for us, their fans (which is why they have given multiple songs as gifts, dedicated to their fans). I have never seen anything like that in any other band... ever! As an example, 2023 was their 10th Anniversary year. They performed a tremendous amount of shows that year (28 shows/festivals in Japan, 24 shows/festivals/guests in US and Mexico, they flew to the US to perform 3 different times in that one year). Up to this point, the biggest venues they had ever performed were 6-7 thousand. The average of all of those show's venues that year, before the final show, was probably 1-2 thousand (probably less because they played a lot of small venues). The last show of the 10th Annaversary Tour was planned to be the biggest show at the biggest venue they had ever played. Their very first arena show at Japan's Yokohama Arena, a venue with a 17,000 seat capacity! That night (26-Nov-2023), they played that show for more than 3-1/2 hours! If you ever get a chance to watch the video of that show, you can see how much fun they are having, right up to the very end! SO MUCH JOY! Afterwards, they posted profuse THANK YOUs to their fans for that show! No other band I have ever heard of both gives and receives SO MUCH JOY! There just isn't another band like BAND-MAID!

Kanami's voice is heaven in this song. Band-Maid did an entire acoustic album (songs turned into acoustic versions). Some of the songs they did were literally the last songs you'd think could be made acoustic. If you thought this was a mind-melter, try going from the album version of "HGK" to the acoustic version.

The acoustic version is so beautiful, and the official live is a balls to the wall rocker! One thing about the acoustic though is that you have to have crazy breath control to pull it off. There's almost nowhere to breathe here.

Thanks for your reaction to both versions of Puzzle as most reactors skip the incredible acoustic version for some reason. In this unplugged performance, Saiki's powerfully emotive voice cuts through the language barrier to reveal the soulful angst and heartfelt lonely longing that underlies the song. Yes, it is very understandable that one must take the time to properly process this beautiful and emotive song which is the mark of truly great music. From hard rock to soulful ballads, Band-Maid can do it all as masters of their craft. Cheers!

There are several songs that Miku takes lead vocals on. The fun song "The Rock In Me" always gets everyone up and singing. Miku's beest song, in many people's opinions is "Sayonakidori". There is both a hard rock version of the song and an acoustic version. My favorite is the acoustic version. Miku also takes the lead on their newest release "Brightest Star". Another Miku song is "Time". I'm not sure if there is a video of her doing that song.

I'll like to reccomend a BandMaid cover band called BandMaiko. They did a fantastic cover of BM's "Secret My Lips" and BandMaiko's song is "Secret Maiko Lips." Band Maiko is breathing down BandMaid's neck and you should do a double reaction with Secret My Lips going first. Believe me, it will freak your mind out....lol. consider me subbed....

Band-Maid at a midnight show, the day before their appearance at Lollapalooza. (They are the only thing that could have got me to attend that joke of a festival, which was 70% DJ's and crap.) I'm happy for you, and anyone else that is just discovering this miracle of a band.

"Puzzle," is a song sung by a woman who has fallen completely in love with a cheating husband who will never leave his wife for her. She knows this love will destroy her, that she will never be happy again, but she can't stop loving him. The electric version is sung with bitterness about her situation. In the acoustic same song, same words, different arrangment. This version is full of sadness, regret, longing, desperation. It's heartbreaking and heartbreakingly beautiful. Even not understanding the words by the end you just want to comfort Saiki and tell her you'll do anything to make her feel better.

Miku's a decent singer and even has a wider range than Saiki (great for hitting those harmonies), but her voice is too soft for hard rock, so very early in the band's history she stepped back from lead vocals and Saiki was brought in. Still, Miku gets her own song about once per album. In concerts they use the Miku songs to give Saiki's voice a rest. If you want to hear Miku sing lead, check out the acoustic Sayonakidori on the band's channel. The acoustic setting is actually a better fit for her voice, she sounds great. Miku also did a solo side project, Cluppo, and released an EP, Hatoful. (It's a pun, see - "hatoful" sounds like "heartful" run through a Japanese accent, but "hato" is Japanese for "pigeon", and Miku calls herself a small pigeon...) Three of the six songs on the EP have videos, although I think the other three songs are better. As Cluppo, she also did an anime ending theme called With You. That acoustic concert is pretty interesting too. They released it for Christmas a few years ago and you can see it on their subscription video site, Band-Maid Prime (or other places). They did, IDK, 10-11 songs? Including a couple of heavier songs no one ever thought they would do acoustic versions of. Some of the songs are done with the full band and some are done with only some of the members, but they mix up which members they're using. Super chill vibes, even when they're going hard, and it shows off how well they can play when there's not an ounce of distortion to hide behind.

Most Maidiacs will tell you their favorite Band-Maid song is the song they are currently listening to. I am a Maidiac, but I do have a favorite Band-Maid song, and it is Puzzle. Both of these versions are great, but in my opinion, the 2017 Studio Coast concert version is the best. Band-Maid is great, but best Band-Maid is live Band-Maid !!! I had to edit this comment because I didn't get far enough into the reaction to see you were reacting to the Tokyo Garden Theater version. I thought you were going to react to the Zepp Tokyo version.
