In March 2002, she was towed to the Nerpa Shipyard, Snezhnogorsk, Murmansk, to be scrapped. Apparently the scrapping didn't go so well, lol.

The STG 44 (abbreviation of Sturmgewehr 44, "assault rifle 44") is a German assault rifle developed during World War II by Hugo Schmeisser. This was the Marriage of the Automatic Rifle and Machine Pistol, such as the American BAR and Thompson 45, shorter Cartage than the Rifle but it could still reach out past the 100 YDS that the Machine Pistol was only accurate for! You had Select Fire.....Safety, Semi and Auto Fire! The AK-47 and M-16 were Designed to match this Weapons Performance! I hope this explains the Assault Rifle STG 44!
@JeffC-dj3gd3 ай бұрын
But they were stamped on the side "MP-44". "Sturmgeweher" was a monicker applied after Hitler, (who first disapproved of it, then later changed his mind) called it that. Hitler was notorious for favoring "Wonderwaffen" (Wonder Weapons) like the V-1 & V-2 rockets, the large cannons like DORA & GUSTAV, & super heavy tanks like the Tiger, KonigsTiger (King Tiger) & Maus.

There were tanks that were supposedly outfitted for amphibious operation, but the floats frequently failed... as witnessed on D-Day. The rough water sent a large portion of the expected armor straight to the bottom... most with crews trapped inside

And he ended up producing a pretty impressive weapon. True, it's not quite as accurate as it's western counterparts, it's simplicity, durability and ease of maintenance are what makes it such a popular weapon. While ANY firearm can jam, statistically, the AK is far less prone to jams and misfires than the western weapons of the same era. For instance the original M16 was so prone to jamming and other maintenance issues that it was despised by our troops as basically a death trap. The VC on the other hand were using Chinese supplied AKs which were incredibly reliable under the harsh conditions. Kinda sucks if, in the middle of a firefight, suddenly you are stuck with essentially a plastic club vs automatic gunfire. In fact, over time, western manufacturers have learned from captured AKs and incorporated quite a few of the features that make it more reliable while still being chambered for our ammo and retaining accuracy

@renaissanceman7145 Жыл бұрын
You're correct, not a prototype for the M16, or the AK47 for that matter. However, it was an ingenious design and a major departure from traditional military doctrine. That fresh idea, regarding a soldiers primary combat weapon, did lead Kalashnikov and Stoner down the path of invention to the AK47 and M16.

A sub is always called a boat, not a ship. A boat, historically, is a vessel only crewed while in use vs ships that are large enough to require at least a skeleton crew even in port due to safety concerns. The original submarines were very small and limited on air, power, etc so they were only manned when actively in use. As the size of submarines grew and they began requiring much the same precautions as a ship, an effort was made to begin calling them ships, but Naval Tradition is exceedingly hard to break and the appelation of boat is still used when referring to them. Your trivia lesson for the day
