How to make a simple obstacle and edge avoiding robot car

Here is the method of making a very simple obstacle detection and avoiding robot car. It can be easily converted to a edge detection robot car. So suppose the robot is on top of a table. It will never fall from there as it can detect the edge and takes a turn.

Hi, will there be any heating problem? I used regular 2n3904. The circuit works if i dont put any limiting resistors ... but the transistor heats up significantly. How do i manage the heat? I am using a pre-assembled sensor board bought on Amazon. Is it safe to use the BD139 directly? Or should i use BD139 in darlington pair mode?
