i don't think he's dead. it seems that the virus's mutation is based on how resilient the host is on dealing with the inflicted extreme fear. if it's seething hatred and revenge like gwinam, they become almost unkillable. if it's desperation out of love like namra, they're more human-like and controlled. since cheongsan wants to live for onjo, he could probably pull off namra's process.

Fr, this is why I really don't see Cheong-san being dead if there's going to be a season 2, On-jo will have no one if Cheong-san is indeed dead. (Of course, there are friends but she'll have no one who's like family.) About the fire stuff, the thing about that is that yes, Cheong-san was in the fire but if you watched closely, Gwi-nam was literally blazing but Cheong-san was just like faded because he got covered. Now, Idk if this is just a mistake on the part of the CGI team but I'm going to hold onto this one, I already saw someone who noticed it too. And there's just too many vague stuffs, Cheong-san didn't show any symptoms of turning and his death is by fire, fire is one of the most used faked death stuff in movies/series, we also know how the director of the series always make it look like Cheong-san got hurt but he really didn't after getting on the next episode. The mutation of the virus also does all kinds of stuffs so I'm not going to be surprised if Cheong-san indeed became a half-bie and he gained the ability of regeneration which can possibly explain how he is alive, if he indeed got burned.

Remember the part when Cheong-San said, "I don't fear anything... I don't even fear you". This line here is a good explanation of Cheong-san's survival from the virus and possibly the fire. According to the Scientist, fear is what makes the virus stronger and therefore further destroys the healthy cells of the healthy host. But in the case of Cheong-San, he did not have any fear and thus, resisted the fatality of the Jonas Virus. The virus mutates really quickly and the source of the virus was from Gwi-Nam. Then, the Jonas virus from Gwi-nam could have mutated and found a better consciousness to Cheong-San. Therefore, the Jonas virus could have a better impact to Cheong-San since he resisted and the virus has mutated well from Gwi-Nam. Well, that's it folks for my fan-theory, let;s all wait until 2024 for the next Season.

Don't forget that the scientist who created the virus also said how extreme heat speeds up the transformation as he thought it would help the white blood cells to fight the virus but it helped the virus to mutate the white blood cells quicker. He had all of those space heaters set up around his wife and son in the apartment to try and fix it but it made it mutate further, Remember? I am also unhappy about 2024 😢😢😢 Sooner is better.

I’m sure hes alive in season 2, i mean cheongsan has nearly died in almost all of the episodes but the next episode it shows that he didnt get harmed at all. He did deserve to live and im sure he did survive the bombing, they’ve just shown many signs of it but if he isnt then the series wont be as good anymore, he was the main lead and if he isnt there in season 2, how could it possibly be good without him?

Cheong-San is alive, here's why If you'll look on EP 7 where the science teacher said "If the body temperature rises, the white blood cells activate". Basically the white blood cells are what keeping the "hambies" in control and not turning to a zombie. And if you'll also look at the supposedly death of Cheong San, he got infected by Gwi Nam right? And right after that, the bombing happened (are you still with me?). Then that means Cheong-San became a hybrid because he used the body of Gwinam to survive and at the same time, increased his body temperature therefore connecting this to the science teacher's theory.

I think Cheong-San is still alive and here´s why: Hambies have the ability to regenerate as we saw with Gwi Nam, he constantly was puting bones in it place after falling numerous times also his eye was almost with no scars at all at the end, so maybe if the fire of the explosion did not burn his brain he can still regenerates from the burns in his skin and other organs.

We all miss Cheong-san and want him back. But if the writers want to bring him back, then they need to have a rational and proper story on how he is still alive. If not, we'll just tell them "Why is Cheong-san this", "Why is Cheong-san that", and other common saying from people who have high expectations on his return. We all want the sequel to be good just as the first, or even better. But for me, either Cheong-san dies for good to have a good chance on season 2 being good, or... Cheong-san comes back but the virus' lore, explanation of his survival, and other factors are properly explained and swallowable to the viewer's mind.

I want him to return but agree it needs to be a good explanation... since the hambies have healing abilities, he could have been there on the pile of zombies killed in the blast and Nam-ra doesn't smell him bc he either left in time or more likely he hadn't healed yet. Gwi-nam looked to be dead multiple times and then kept coming back. I think that could be a good explanation... maybe he kept his distance from the group afterwards for fear of further infecting them much like the struggle Nam-ra went through.

I still go back to when the professor believed the heat would increase the ability of the white blood cells to combat the virus like an induced fever since zombies were cold to the touch. Instead it mutated the virus more and all white blood cells were lost and he was bitten by Gwi-Nam so he was likely to be a half zombie who was then exposed to extreme heat but used Gwin-Nams body to shield him from the main part of the blast. I feel like we were already given much of the answers to why he may still be alive in S1 with the scientists tests that we were watching on his laptop and the outcomes. We have also seen the healing ability both with Nam-ra and with Gwi-Nam so there is nothing to explain there. I think he may be like the professor and be a full zombie but able to control his consciousness, which is what the professor was scared of creating. He may not expose himself due to appearance like the professor who was walking and not in any kind of frantic mode. Nam-ra and Gwi-Nam still struggle with "urges" but what if he was in complete control as he stated he had no fear at the end and was not in an emotional state of mind?

But the execution on how they do it is important like did the bomb burned some of his body parts? they need to show it, did Gwi-nam burned alive in front of him? they need to show it, and last, did the scientist's theory is on point? they need to show it and play it in a proper manner. What I am saying is that there are many ways the writers can eff'd the story with one plot hole mistake. If Cheong didn't reveal in some way that he was burned, or if the writers didn't show him how burned he is during the blast or after the blast, then many people will wonder if they bring Cheong back only to appease them. That is why execution is important.

It has been speculated that he was happy to see the chaos in the police department and people getting what they deserved in his opinion. It has been speculated that he will be a villain in the next season as a half zombie but it seems each of them take it to an internal emotional place. The bully took it to hate. Nam-ra wanted to be liked and protect her peers. The phone smashing chic wanted revenge and lost emotional control frequently. The virus is based on fear response but maybe goes to your base emotions and if you are a good person deep down or not. What your actual intentions are. I think there will be some "good" half zombies and some bad half zombies based on who they were in life. The military is going to need to cope with the good half zombies fighting to protect them and the innocent or they will all die.

I think cheong san and gwinam both are alive. Do you remember when there was bombing cheong san pulled gwinam towards him and they fell into the hole where bodies of zombies were pilled up. I think cheong san saved the life of gwinam. And they would become friends. These hybrid would take revenge from the other side of authorities to leave them for dying and then bombing.. Remember the last episode. The focus was on why authorities left them for dying.. If there is season 2 .. I hope cheong san is alive. My fav character!!

Ok since many of us have a strong feeling that there’ll be a season 2 with Cheongsan alive can we talk about how Onjo got bitten? I swear there was this part in the earlier eps where she was bitten or is it just me? The director also said that the show has to be watched several times to see the tiniest details. Also, the part when she and the smart guy went to get the drones, a rat was seen climbing up to her sock. Could she have been bitten just that she didn’t feel it? Could she be the most resilient to the Jonas virus after all? This, among the many mysteries, have been bothering me since finishing the show.

I will rewatch. I know the rat was the original carrier and how that student got the virus at school and needed to be tied up. The closest you can get to the original virus is the best chance of understanding it and treating it or curing it. I think if zombies were chasing me or I was in a high stress situation a mouse bite would be the least of my concerns and I would brush it off. Fine, a reason to rewatch. OK!!! I really enjoy when directors put that much pride in their work that small details can be missed and you gain more understanding or notice more watching a second or third time. She could be completely immune to the virus entirely.

So after a rewatch in the very first episode when the zombie girl who was bitten by the hamster is taken to the infirmary it appears as thought Onjo is bitten by the girl and retracts her hand quickly then holds it in pain. Her father then wraps her wrist and we are never allowed to see the wound at all nor it is clearly explained what the wound is. Su Hyeok says that the girl was trying to bite everyone and Onjo was injured when this occurred. When Onjo is asked about her wound that is now fully covered and treated by her father, whom she told she would tell the whole story to later that night, she gets angry about her neighbor boy asking questions and makes a snide remark "it's just a scratch" playing it down but we don't really know for certain. Also the directors framing of Onjo in the beginning and especially in the final scene show her as the last real main character in front and center implying she has a major role to play in season 2. I believe she could be fully immune or a cure.

Namra told the crew that announcement suggesting to hide under ground somewhere to save your self and I remembered On Jo said to Cheong San that you won't give up no matter what happens so conclusion is he executed very well as he didn't gave up against Gwinam and use him as a shield to reach to the ground. Put the dots together.. *he was arguably the Prime protagonist * We didn't see his dead body at any point but we saw On-Jo's name patch almost untarnished.. classic mis direct? * Season 2 has yet to be written.. and there's a clamouring for his Character to return.. the Writers/directors will notice this and generally will look to give the people what they want, that's common sense. If I had to bet on it, he'll be back.. and not straight away, but when the surviving group and/or On-Jo has they're/her backs against the wall, he and likely Nam-Ra will make the last minute rescue.. I think he is still alive. Nam-ra probably lied to on-jo when they came back to the building after the explosion because she thinks cheong-san turned into a hambie and she doesn't want to put others in danger. There's no clear explanation about the half zombie actually. You see Namra become a half zombie because she was bitten by Gwinam and I thought Nayeon and the archer boy will also be half zombies. And the possibility of Cheongsan and Gwinam death are still questionable because it's kinda weird when Gwinam could die only by fire while he fell from high building, being stabbed at his neck and heart but still not died.

There's a scene of what NamRa's heard from the announcement came from the helicopter that if you stay underground there's a possibility that you could survive from the fire. Cheong san fell using GuiNam as a shield I hope they fell on the zombie's bodies below so it could absorb the shock on Cheong san's fall. and there's no way that the on jo's name tag (inside the pocket of Cheong san) didn't burn into ashes?

So, some of the people say that if you get bitten by the zombies without feeling fear, as to what happened to Gwinam, Eunji, and Namra, you'd get to turn into a halfbie. Gwinam was bitten while he was swearing he'll take revenge, completely ignoring the zombies biting him. Eunji literally left the safe zone to look for the phones desperately, not even caring if she get killed by the zombies. Also, Namra retaliated and attacked Gwinam to save Suhyeok when she got bit, not fearing if he's a halfbie. So, it's really possible Cheongsan could've become a halfbie. First, because it took him too long to transform, we didn't even get to see him transform into one. Second, he literally said he doesn't feel any fear for Gwinam. I'm realizing all of this now. It's really possible that the group of halfbies Namra was talking about, Cheongsan could be one of them.

The writers put so much emphasis on building the character Cheong-san up that there is no way that he dies that easily. In fact, just by them building up that the On-jo misses him alot and that she still loves him means that he will certainly be back. There is just too much tension building up to Cheong-san presumably being dead that he certainly will be back.

Cheong San HAS to return if there will be a S2, which I hope will happen cuz this show is too amazing to not get a 2nd season. However, I don't think Cheong San will return as a hambie. Idk, making him another hambie like Nam Ra is too predictable and uninteresting. The writers have to come up with some unique idea to revive him. We did see his body turn into ashes after the bombing but the writer can make a plot twist. And he doesn't necessarily have to be a hambie. Maybe his body responds differently to the virus, maybe he's completely immune to it? And I ship On Jo and Cheong San so much. I want to see their love story develops cuz they didn't get a chance to do so :(

I just finished the season and I think He only had a bloody nose but nothing else, most commonly the first symptoms of the virus is a blood nose and bloodshot eyes and eventually you fall on the ground and twitch up and become one of them. Cheong San had none of that. I think he was thinking he was gonna die, because he got bit but if he survived fighting Gwi Han and then also proceeds to jump in he elevator shaft with him when the bomb goes off. And still have conscience, then he’s most likely alive and living somewhere on the other side of the wall maybe with Nam Ra or maybe just by himself.

Here’s my theory which was probably already said and is a mix of some of the things I’ve read: Science teacher said that heat is zombies weakness but also activates white blood cells which fuses with the virus. Both Eun-ji and Gwi-nam were in moments of desperation right before they turned. When you’re under stress or anger, your blood pressure rises and you warm up internally. My theory is that their blood pressure rose to a certain level which activated the white blood cells which in turn allowed the virus to evolve. The science teacher also said that you must COMPLETELY burn the entire body for all of the cells to be destroyed. As for Cheong-san, I believe that Gwi-nam was his cover and took most of the heat. While the heat that did reach Cheong-san heated his body just enough for him to evolve. Honestly, it’s a 50/50 chance for me because after the explosion, Na rim said that she couldn’t smell anyone so hopefully he was buried too deep for her to detect him, or maybe his transition masked the scent or maybe he somehow managed to leave the building during the night before they returned to the construction site. I just hope my boi comes back for the 2nd season.

My boy Cheong-San “should” be coming back in S2. 😎 First off, I have to say there’s bad news😔: The director of the series clearly said CS’s death was part of the plan in S1 and that it will contradict with some of the scenes/plot should CS be resurrected. However he did hear all the demands from us audiences and concluded that he can’t confirm anything at the moment. 👇 is my guess: When creating the script, the crew didn’t know if they should write CS dead though they prefer to follow the original story in which CS dies. But from a production perspective, they would always try to leave an open end to the main characters’ life, allowing future possibilities should there be a sequel. Being arguably the most important character plus a fan favourite (potentially), CS fits the bill perfectly. That’s why they wrote all those grey area throughout the series, trying to create 2 outs for themselves. They simply dunno what to do! So I think the crew is in NOW DECIDING whether to resurrect CS in S2. And here’s why I believe they will eventually let him come back🤩: The director confirmed: “if S1 was meant to be about human’s survival against zombies, then S2 will be about zombies’ survival”. This huge hint points to the possibility that the S2 theme will surround good hambies fighting for survival against humans and on the other hand helping human fight evil hambies like Gwi-Nam. In that case, they will need to include more characters on the good hambies camp, other than Nam-ra. Adding in CS as another good hambie makes perfect sense based on his personality and character. Plus it will be easier and more audience-friendly than bringing in brand new characters. And remember when On-jo said she’s never gonna trust adults? This scene paves her way to joining the good hambies’ side, along with the other classmates. PS: Despite trying to be rational, tbh I don’t even care whatever reason it turns out to be, just bring Cheong-San back already!!! 🥺 We need to see him coming back to On-jo and she kicks him hard in his leg before shouting back “Today, I’m the luckiest girl in the world~”

I'm in denial about his death. I mean, he knew that a bomb was thrown and that would kill them, but still went to the elevator shaft and used Gwinam as a shield, why making that effort if they were gonna die anyway? So, I want to belive he had a plan to survive. And when the corpes are shown at the end, the one that seems like him didn't have the elbow pads or the white protections on his legs that he was wearing. The on-jo tag was almost intact too and before the bombing, they were told to hide on a basement or something like that and that building has two floors below ground. However, that fire blast evolved the two boys, I can't think on a way he can scape that. Plus, in the original story he really dies 😔 (in a less heroic way though). The only idea I can think of to make him survive, is that he becomes a hambie and even if he was burn, maybe one part of his body was protected by gwinam and is intact, then he can regenerate (just like eunji, gwinam and namra). The professor said that every cell of the host have to be destroyed, so maybe one part of his flesh can make him survive. It will took him a long time, but after 4 months since the bombing, maybe he already regenerate. I don't know man. He's my favorite character. If he's really dead, then I'm happy he helped his friends survive until the end. But if there's a season 2, it will be so sad if he's not part of it. 😔

And since he has the zombie virus, he will regenerate like what happened to Nam-ra's forehead (class president) as seen when she showed up during the 2nd rooftop campfire. Probably his appearance on season 2 would be a badass entrance, maybe saving On-Jo. Cause Koreans seems to like surprising viewers with twisted events. Though he may not appear on the first episode, but I will wait for that epic moment. seems season 2 zombies would be much stronger and harder to kill.

In my opinion Both nayeon and archery guy turn into zombie because gwinam bite them in the neck. Meanwhile Namra and cheongsan just got bitten in hand by gwinam, that's why namra just turn into halfbie like gwinam so there's possibly that cheongsan still alive(and gwinam too, we already see that he always came back from the dead so many times)
