Well what I am having a hard time explaining, I guess because I’m having a hard time grasping it my adult self is, if the new moon is when the moon is between the earth and the sun, and it’s totally unlit, then wouldn’t it be only “out” in the daytime? If the sun is behind the moon from earths POV, the sun would be lighting up the side of the earth facing the moon every time. So the moon would only be out the daytime. I know that’s not right because I see the dark circle of the new moon in the night sky. What am I missing?

The short answer of it is that you cannot see a new moon at night. A new moon is not in the sky at night! It rises with the sun and sets with the sun. The closest you can get to "seeing" a new moon is a "waxing crescent" right after the sun sets, or a "waning crescent" right before the sun rises.

Ema - Marie Aquilina Solar means something like "concerning the sun". A solar eclipse occurs when you can't or almost can't see the sun. A lunar eclipse is when you can't see the moon

You went to such great lengths to make this edu-cartoon. BUT there are MANY discrepancies here! During a new moon you say the moon is between the sun and the earth. This means that you should only be able to see a new moon during the DAY! And you make the point of including the 5 degree inclination which is good, BUT this would mean you will only see waning/waxing gibbious during the day! And yes your RIGHT! Total eclipses are rare! But that is exactly what a new moon would look like if this was the reason! This is the ONLY WAY you should be able to witness a new moon!!! And even WITH the 5 degree inclination on the night side there should be times where the earth creates a shadow "in addition" to the gibbious! But this never occurs! We should also witness periods of high albedo when the sun strikes the water of the earth just right and reflects this on the moon! It should ripple and undulate as the light strikes land and coastlines. This also never occurs! And I have personally witnessed a "full" moon during the day WITH the sun within 20 degrees of it. This should be impossible!
