An intro to the series I made about building a 17th-century style joined chest with a drawer. The intro looks at the original chests, then some shop work talking about the materials.

Once upon-a-time I thought I was "pretty reasonable" at woodwork - table-saw, bandsaw, spindle moulder, router, linisher, any contraption - I could find my way around all of them - I started out doing engineering (woodwork) drawing and gradually learned the basics from some amazing carpenters I've been fortunate enough to work along side over the decades. I learned the digital side of drawing, 3D Modelling and even some CNC gosh I knew 'EVERYTHING' there was to know! Then I came across your work and passion for 17c low-relief carving (I admire the New-England designs) it was like being hit by a brick wall and changed me forever. If you ever need a 50-odd year old apprentice, please let me know and I will swim to the USA from Wales! :-) Thank you for sharing your talent with the world.

Thank you for the introduction to a new series. I always enjoy watching you work and discuss the process as you go. Very educational and very relaxing at the same time.

Whoops - I goofed here. Sorry to reply to these comments so late, but here's the story behind this episode that I uploaded here today. This is in fact 2 years old or close to it. It is the intro to a series I did on vimeo-on-demand - a full 20 hours of video on making one of these chests. I posted this here to show to people who might want to purchase the entire series - as a sample of the content. I was also posting the link on my substack subscription blog - where the subscribers get a discount. The chest series is at this link - vimeo.com/ondemand/follansbeejoinedchest and people can buy the whole set or cherry-pick single episodes for $15 each. Sorry to give the impression that this set was coming here to youtube - I didn't think it all the way through - my apologies. There's still a good number of my videos here - and from time to time I plan on adding some more freebies...again, my apologies for the confusion. The substack blog is here peterfollansbeejoinerswork.substack.com/

Hi, from just outside Braintree, Essex, UK. It's a simple chest, but I look forward to watching the work.

You made real good points on the benefits of splitting a log. Where do you get your logs?
