Last night my brake lights were stuck on but only when the car is running. When the car is off the brake lights are off including the middle 3rd.brake light. When I start car all 3. Rake lights come on and wont shut off til I shut off engine. Wonder if it’s the brake light switch….

Twist and pull. If stuff is breaking you’re doing it wrong. Twist and pull!! Too easy!

twist and pull to get it off then put the new one in and twist to lock in place.

just an fyi, it looks off-center because it is not in the locked position. Rotate the old switch counter clockwise until it is crooked like the new one, that unlocks the switch and it will pull right out. insert the new and turn clock wise until it is straight up and down. now the pins cant push in and it is locked.

Hi ...I have a 2016 JGC summit Noticed after bleeding brakes that my brake lights are stuck ON.removed the brake pedal switch today..it's a 3 pin device ..lights still stuck on even when ignition is in Off position The only way to de energize the lights was to remove fuse F26 which feeds ABS pump and ESP...any suggestions please

Hey, hard to say on the newer units but by default the lights are signaled on. So removing the switch will keep them on. So it could still be that the switch to the pedal still needs to be replaced because when the pedal makes contact to it that is what signals for the lights to turn off. They will remain on even with ignition off if that switch isn't there. I'd have someone stand behind and let you know when you push on the switch to tell you if the lights turn off. If they do that's your problem it needs to be remounted and adjusted. If it doesn't turn off the lights it's either a bad switch or potentially a bad ground and I'd follow all the wires coming from the switch to make sure they are in good shape

You actually give the body a little twist to be straight up and down, and then the switch locks in

If this switch is bad…will it cause the ESP BAS & Traction Control lights to come on?

@superjoint57 Unlikely this is really just in charge of indicating when to turn on and off the rear tail lights for the most part. Most likely that's going to be related to an ABS wheel speed sensor or an ABS control module sensor. There's also a steering angle sensor that commonly causes that. If you've replaced all of that first maybe this indicator brake switch is causing cascading issues but less likely.

Had brake light switch replaced b/c of no brake lights. Now I have brake lights & no cruise control! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ BUT the ESP/BAP & Traction Control lights are off! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Hey ! My brake light has not shut off ever since changing the master cylinder. What is wrong is that the brake pedal is not matching up to the brake light switch. Which is leaving the brake lights on. We do not know how to fix it. Do you think you could help me? Thank you!

Hey, so the switch should be adjustable so if you lightly pull the plunger out it should allow you to let it engage with the brake pedal. If it isn't pulling out or when you pull it it still doesn't work after pressing the pedal then might need a new switch from a different brand. This happens because you have to bleed the brakes when you change the master so the pedal went down further than it normally would to get air out of the lines so likely the adjustment went down too far so the pedal won't engage anymore but if you pull it out it should "lock" at the next level and it will work again. Hope this helps.

Not an easy snap in. I've been trying to press the sensor in while pushing the brake pedal down. I still haven't got the sensor to go in and car won't start.

It will only go in one way, depending on the brand it can be a bit off but if it's lined in right the plastic tabs should push in otherwise you might have to pinch them as you press in. It shouldn't affect the car starting though if the old one was keeping your tail lights on it might have killed the battery. Hope this helps

? Brake wear ? The switch has nothing to do with the pads.. the switch thinks your pressing the pedal but your not.

Clutch... this killed my battery, I figured out the issue, got the part, and thanks to this video fixed it within minutes. All this happened in under an hour, such an annoying issue haha And of course on a Sunday.

No screwdriver. You pull straight apart to remove the switch. No tool required.

on the switch when removing, twist switch counter clockwise 1/8th of a turn and it slides right out of bracket. hope it helps somebody. new one will twist in clock wise.
