The wheel gets hot and the detector tells you which axle it is. The manifest from that tells you the car number.

That first train sliding by looked good in that hazy Orange Sky. When the 2nd train first started to move at the office and again at the spot where the conductor got on where the engine gave the single puff of smoke like a cigar ring. The conductor did a good job finding the defect as that sound covers a large area. I remember calling in a car that sounded like that on a SOO coke train. The screeching was just nerve-wracking and I had to give a perimeter of five cars. The car had already gone 5 MI when it went by me and moved another 3 miles to where they could set it out.

It was an early Saturday morning when I filmed this so I bet it woke up a lot of unhappy neighbors. Lol it was very loud in person

Hot Box Detector should Zero in on Exactly which Axle it is and then you just Walk the Train while Counting the Cars and Locate. Sometimes they need to be Set Out. 👍

Hi, i loved this video! Beautiful filming against the orange sky. As the train passes the stationary N/S comes into view. Very nice. Oh the screeching sound! Glad the conductor sorted it. 😊👍

That’s really cool…. I’ve noticed a lot of the trains Jawtooth’s catches are trains that run through my area here in Indiana.

Hey, Railroad Tie Spiker. I noticed that there were red and green bands on the ports of some tankers. Is that a new coding on the cars? Thanks Robert

I’ve noticed that to I’m not real sure on that but I will find out. Thank you Robert for watching

He applied the handbrake on the sticky brake car, but what did he do to fix it? I didn't catch it? Did he bleed the car of air and recharge it? Great videos as usual 🙂🙏
@therailroadtiespiker18 күн бұрын
I believe he did bleed the brakes I should have stuck around a little longer but I wanted to get to the other end of town to catch it leaving. Lol

Sometimes it takes just that. It could have been the handbrake doesn't release fully it happen . its likely a precaution he was taught to try. Things do happen sometimes and things do get overlooked sometimes . I think he worked a retainer valve and bled it off . I don't think the retainer valve was the problem but it among things he's told to check . there is a brake cut out cock you can turn that down and bleed the car off it won't come back on again but has to go to the shop as soon as it gets by a place that maintains shop forces.

If that ever has to be done out in the field, I would ask permission to keep a little electric bike in the cab. It would go a lot faster with that and a handheld ir thermometer

With these machines moving that much weight, how can they tell if a car has brakes applied?
@therailroadtiespiker18 күн бұрын
It can really hard to figure out what car it is. The sound can carry throughout several cars.

What you could do is looking at each brake cylinder

good crew... they kept Peru Indiana from becoming a household name... and to think the railroads want engr only operations... damn fools
