Vaatu having all 4 elements doesn’t make sense. The reason the Avatar has all 4 elements is because during the first merging of Raava and Wan, she was holding 3 of the elements while Wan was holding the other. Vaatu never held any of the elements, which is why Unavaatu was still only a water bender, even though Raava was “reborn inside” Vaatu. The only way it would make sense for Vaatu to be an avatar spirit would be for the person who contains him to go meet all the lion turtles and get the elements from them.

As an aspiring author, one of my favorite concepts has always been "ideas are cheap," which I first learned from Brandon Sanderson, one of the biggest names in fantasy writing right now. He states that ideas matter far far less than the execution. Popular book series "Codex Alera" was created in challenge to the idea that not all ideas work (he was told that he couldn't do something that combined "Lost Roman Legions" and "Pokemon." The books became a hit. I know a lot of people are shitting on it being a "fanfic" idea, but the idea means very little when compared to the execution. We don't even have a trailer. This is how things always go when things leak. People try their absolute hardest to scrape any and all available information to form an opinion when it's better to simply wait for the official trailer and judge things then. We don't know the plot. We know the premise. At the very very barebones level. Judging the story now is just illogical. There's no rush to form an opinion about a piece of media that isn't even out yet. Just my thoughts. I'm interested to see where this goes. Perhaps both the avatars will be "good" and need to resolve issues through conflicting ideals. We won't know for a while. I beg people to wait. Don't jump on some hate bandwagon that might prevent you from enjoying a good show. Who knows, even if it's not as good as the original, you might miss out on something that has the potential to change your life just as much.

"This has a premise that has been tossed around in fanfics. Fanfics have bad execution. Therefore this show will have bad execution" is just childish logic. Saying the show WILL be anything is just unnecessary, and will only serve to push people into groups of opinion that they'll stick to regardless of the final product. Same thing happened with the last of us 2. Many people would have otherwise enjoyed the story but chose not to because they decided from the leaks that the story was doomed from the start. Instead of, ya know waiting for the actual product. Same for attack on Titan, or practically any story that leaks in any way. Again, you can have whatever opinion on those stories you want. But the point I'm trying to make is that the leaks and discussions like what are happening now in the avatar community made haters out of potential fans. That is a tragedy.

Okay so heres how I think it will work based off of already established lore, during Harmonic Convergence after Raava was defeated by Vatuu she was reborn inside of him and we see Korra pull Ravaa out of him, however when she reunites with Korra and the Avatar defeated Unavatu for good using the spirit bending; the same thing happened but in reverse, Vatuu is now reborn inside of Ravaa who is currently part of Korra, this would mean that Korra has had both Raava and Vatuu insude her since seasons 2 though 4 and when she dies and reincarnates the next avatar will be affected by this and be reborn as the Twins, one having Raava as their Spirit and the other Vatuu. But hey thats just a theory a game theory. 😉

Neither the audience or the main character would know who she truly is, and then later in the books find out that the audience has been actually following the story of avatar of chaos (Vatu) and not the avatar of balance (Ravaa). It has been said that one cannot exist without the other, so not necessarily chaos has to be bad, maybe the current faction holding power is not good and that's why our new main character has to bring "new balance" to the world, kinda aligning with Zaheers perspective. I keep seeing people say that it only makes sense if Vaatu waits the full ten thousand years to re-emerge. But Raava was also supposed to be gone for ten thousand years when she died. She was able to come back after about an hour after one spiritual child blasted Vaatu with positive energy. This means any source of negative energy could reawaken Vaatu at any time.

The reason Raava was reborn again it's because it is still the Harmonic Convergence. The Harmonic Convergence heightens up the spiritual power of Raava and Vaatu. Vaatu wasn't reborn again because there's no dark person who will bombarded Raava with dark energy. And... The Harmonic Convergence is about to end so the infinite spiritual energy is gone and Vaatu needs to wait for another 10,000 years to be reborn. This also affects all the descendants of the Airbenders inside the Earth Kingdom.

But if korra ever fights a giant dark spirit, it will inevitably blast her with dark energy. Even more so if the massive cataclysm she fought had any dark spirit energy to it. Also, it is interesting that you mentioned how powerful they are near harmonic convergence. Did you ever realize how tiny they are after it? Raava was so weak and tiny that Wan kept her in a teapot until his death, and she technically won that harmonic convergence. If he comes back early, he would probably be just as weak.

My horrible theory is that because Korra spirit bended UnaVaatu into essence. They did say that they cannot ever really destroy the other. They are within each other for all eternity, and since the spirit portals are still open and he’s not trapped in the tree of time anymore, he is able to come out of the darkness once again. And since KORRA’s passing, I think it just happened to be a lucky case since there were twins but if it was an only child, the next avatar would bear both of the spirits.

I think it can be cool if Ravva and Vatuu both had an Avatar, one representing Order and the other Chao’s, maybe even them tackling the struggle between the sprits and seeing that the world needs both to survive. It would also conflict with the world. Post apocalypse based worlds often have a interesting line between order and control and freedom and anarchy. Both are two dangerous extremes. Where those who hold power hold it absolute, and could abuse it to control and oppress those below them. And the lawlessness and morals of anarchy lead to a pretty self explanatory issues. People abuse it too. Raiders killers. And cannibalism are often in apocalypse scenarios. Tho I doubt they include the last one. It isn't too crazy for avatar at times.

The apocalypse theme brings up an interesting idea: Is the apocalypse theme with isolated city-states a way to establish an in-universe reason for technology stagnating or even lost? In LoK they had electricity, cars and dieselpunk exosuits. If the rumours say this takes place at least a full generation later (50-80 years), then they need some way to explain why there are no fighter jets and computer technology.

Twins based around the idea of yin-yang seems interesting. One is supposed to complete the other, so the idea of both only having two elements (plus corresponding spirit) and maybe being able to sync to the other for access to the other two elements during avatar mode could lead to cool situations. That could even lock away avatar mode if they end up in conflict, forcing each to actually learn their respective missing elements instead of relying on each other from start to finish. There's quite a few ways to explore the dynamic.

I think it would be really cool if the next Avatar after Korra would have both Raava and Vaatu simultaneously. The thing tho is that Wan had to visit all four lion turtles to learn all 4 elements which was only possible due to having Raava. Vaatus never had a host and even if he did the host would have to visit all 4 lion turtles to gain access to the 4 elements. Even then Wan had to spend years mastering them to be proficient even with Raava's help. Current avatars can rely their past lives help or Raava for guidance. Even tho Korra lost the past avatar's memories. She still had guidance from them in the past and avatar abilities that were honed over generations. If Vaatu created his own avatar line, it would need to be built up from scratch.

I hope that if they split the elements, it will be fire + water (for the "bad" sister) and earth + air (for the "good" one). I think it is the best combination because they already have the conflict from bending opposing elements and the fight scenes will be amazing since earth and air will be fast and strong at the same time (covering weaknesses of the elements). And with water and fire she will have good offense and defense (and finally, I got some good water bending from the avatar since I think in Koora earth bending outshines water bending because water is less available).

I kinda already understand it.. from Korra back to Wan, Raava was fused with the soul of the avatar that continues to be reincarnated. Vaatu was trapped in the tree of time, during the 10,000 years that only Raava was part of the avatar cycle. When Vaatu was killed same as with what happened to Raava, was destined to be reborn through Raava, only Raava was refused back with korra (the soul of the avatar) meaning that Vaatu was now dwelling with the same soul just as Raava had been. Scientifically identical twins are literally the same person the only thing making them different is the exposure to both their natural and social environments. Which is how twins become two different people. Vaatu had to be reborn again through Raava just as she had through him, twins is natures way of making this possible while also still attached to the avatars soul. I think they will each be able to bend all four it’s just a hunch it’s too complicated to really explain. Though I am excited to see what they can do I hope they explore the nature of good and evil properly as good always has it’s potential for becoming evil, and evil can even have its good applications.

There are also cultures that believe that twins can share a soul. So a set of twins being born as the avatar could simply mean they are "separate but the same" in a sense. Now of course that brings back the theories of them splitting elemental control or even the "light/dark" theories. They'd still persist even with that logic. I don't think twin avatars is far fetched given the cultural beliefs in the real world - but how the series approaches their powers that's up in the air. I kind of hope they go the route of the dark and light since you can't have one without the other. So if there's two avatars, they should be representative of both halves. I also hope that they both of have access to all elements but maybe have preferences/specializations between the two of them.

Vatu doesn’t have any elements, Rava got the elements from the lion turtles, and she gives them to the avatars, where the hell would Vatu get the elements from? The dark avatar would need to have 1 element (probably earth) or they need to be a non-bender

Technically Wan (the first Avatar) learned all the bendings from each Lion Turtle, Rava just made it possible for him to - being a powerful spirit being. Vatu reforming inside of Rava in this series could have given them access to the 4 elements Rava had connections to via Wan & the Lion Turtles - Rava being a pure spirit being, Lion Turtles a sort of cross between spirit & material therefore giving them access to things like bending that Rava needed Wan as a conduit to receive the powers over via the Lion Turtles. So, Rava is a spirit battery & memory bank (avatar state / avatar cycle); Avatar is the conduit for spiritual & material prowess as well as balance (ability to learn bending & increase their own strength); Lion Turtles bridge between the avatar & the material world (element bending / bestowing).

It is interesting how in “Legend of Korra” they seemed to be developing (somewhat of) a sense of mutual-exclusiveness of different bending specializations, such as metal vs. lava for earth and lightning vs. combustion for fire. Different Avatars due to personal differences might have different capacities for the specializations as a result of the mutual-exclusiveness of the specializations. I could see this allowing for a split within the soul of the Avatar going forward corresponding with the split within the Avatar spirit, and these corresponding with the developments/splits in the ways people bend. One could say that the developments by benders also has a corresponding development in the spirit realm.

2 Avatars is ridiculous. And a “dark avatar” is supremely stupid. What makes being the avatar a heavy burden are the difficult CHOICES that person has to make. Not what they are dictated or destined to do based on whether Ravaa or Vatu are inside them. Having a “dark” or “good” avatar implies that the choices aren’t really theirs to make and, therefore, don’t really matter. I really really hope the show isn’t taking us in that direction.

Raava or Vaatu aren't strictly good or bad tbh. Whilst we've yet to see redeeming qualities of Vaatu, we have seen a bit of the wrong side of Raava already. When Wan first met her, she was patronising and assumed the worst of humanity. And the reason why I think there's more to Vaatu is the fact he was the one who said that he broke the initial divide between humans and spirits, and knew firsthand what humanity was like and used that to corrupt them. We'd need confirmation on that first but thats my take on it. Anyone who acts as a Avatar for Vaatu though, it'd be more like keeping the devil in rather then embracing the angel that inhabits you. But we've seen how destructive Raava is in both Aang and Korra, not everything is black and white.

@@mustarddoctor Exactly. We’ve already seen how Raavas side operates through situations in Korra and Aang’s journeys but it would be fye to see how Vaatus side handles stuff. You mentioned tough decisions being the core of the Avatars role, and that could play out as philosophical battles between the two sides. We’ve already gotten a glimpse of characters who might align with Vaatu’s ideology villains like Amon, Zaheer, Zuko and kuvira. These are people with solid ideas that became radicalized, as Toph pointed out. They could represent what it means to act under Vaatus influence, even if not directly connected. What makes this concept crazy is the idea of a philosophical battle between Raava and Vaatu over how the Avatar should approach the world’s problems,it could even involve them vying for the admiration and support of the people. The most controversial figures are still revered in their communities like Doctor Doom. This shi could really elevate the Avatar’s story by forcing them to grapple with not just external threats but the ideological tug-of-war within themselves.

If you have ever played Pathfinder Kingmaker, the twins remind me very strongly of the tiefling twins Kalikke and Kanerah. I think I have a couple ideas for how this could work. Have there be this external conflict that requires both avatars to work together to a degree, but at the same time, they're also working to undermine the other when it comes to which one will ultimately lead the world's philosophies. Through a series of different character arcs and whatnot, have the series end with the two reconciling the differences between their two spirits. Essentially, true balance between order and chaos to usher in a more prosperous world.

That’s actually such a good idea that they could have used to expand on the introduction of a modern looking world in Korra. Since modernization in our world caused a distance from more traditional culture, they could have had the lack of spiritual connection for the people in this world affect their ability to bend (kind of like the theory that why all air nomads were benders because they were very spiritual)

You look to make Bending more rare and make it so Bending is more obsolete. That is not the direction the series should go. You can reform the "Dark Avatar". But, this? You end up moving forward less and less regarding Bending. The Twins idea has issues. But, not as bad as this. This seems more like bad fan fiction. You could argue that you don't like the concept of Twin Avatars because you fear the execution. It becomes the exact same argument. How would they "play it well"? So 10,000 years into the future? The only way for there to be twin avatars is because Vaatu had been destroyed previously, in Korra's timeline. Meaning Vaatu WILL reemerge 10,000 years into the future and will seriously disagree with Raava causing the "split". Vaatu didn't really carry the 4 elements like Raava did but since he will be emerging FROM Raava, maybe he gets a copy. Idk why you're saying it's some kind of unknown lore when it's implied in some way.

One of the twins having Raava and the other Vaatu is the only outcome i could accept. The Yin / Yang, Order and Chaos thing would be intrigueing and showing the difficult relationship between the twins. Still not 100% sure about all this, it can pretty much go both ways but i hope Avatar News will officially announce something soon. If this show has been in the works for a while now, surely there must be some teaser material.
