Brand new Burning Mountain descent: New Castle, CO

Big climb leads to a fantastic downhill. Techy sections, exposure, and some steep lines add up to a difficult trail. If hand cut climbing section is too hard, this is a good sign to turn back.

I live in Buena Vista Colorado, so I’m nowhere near this far west and we’ve got some amazing trails but I’ve been wanting to visit burning man. I’ll have to get out there this summer.

Lol yeah, you would be very disappointed if you were expecting burning man! I rode lots of the Buena Vista network and it was awesome. Unchained was so fun. Love the optional lines. Tiring network for the elevation change. Still need to check out Vit B someday!

I saw on Mtb project it’s on private land? How does one get permission?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the land owners have given permission for people to ride the established trail. Keep to the trail, pack out any trash/waste and be respectful. (Which should apply to all trails, but respecting the opportunity to ride on private land is obviously important). Trailhead/gate is by Elk Creek Elementary.

@@MountainRiding I found out from the Newcastle trails page that it looks like anyone can ride the new trail. I’ll be taking myself there tomorrow

@mitchdomaas304 Worth checking out the Grand Hogback trails in Rifle too! They'll stay rideable a little longer than New Castle.
