@@jason3898once you've owned a rusty old car and had to pay someone to weld it multiple times, the motivation for keeping the road dirt off the paint and metal is all you need to clean it. Washing a car is still boring though. And it only gets dirty again.

@@althejazzmanmy car stays clean for about 5miles after I clean it... But i do live in a little village and every journey results in a very muddy car, I'm constantly wiping off lights and number plate but a day later and it's all uniformly brown mud again😂 the outside of the car that you could practically wash on the drive never gets too rusty in my experience it's all the trapped water in the crevices that causes the real problems. A yearly under body clean and re waxoiling and my sills and jacking points etc are as solid as the day I patched it all up with the magic mig wand (about 8years ago)

Today, I'm the chairman of a large old MG Car Club in New York, and many of our members have minis of all shapes and sizes, pickup trucks, vans, wagons like yours, and some Cooper S's too. There's even a few with the steering on the wrong side like yours!

When using a caulk gun for the sealant, instead of making beads and pulling away go the other direction. Push the nozzle into the sealant, not only will this push it into the crack so you dont have to do it with your hand like in this vid, but it naturally produces a really nice flush finish.

When I rebuilt an old 1968 Ford Torino GT that I got for $50 usd was from NY so had so much rust under the car that I literally had to do like you did and replace the whole under carriage only I had to fabricate it myself. I did like you and put the protective paint but a friend of mine does the truck bed protectors and offered to spray the coating under the car. Was the best investment ever. The engine that I had rebuilt I had as black high temp engine paint then anything that attached to that was Ford Red and anything on the red was chrome. Car looked amazing and sold it for 12K I did not make much of a profit as the engine and transmission even though needed to be rebuilt was stupid expensive.

Great work but JEEEEZ dude, put the guard back onto the angle grinder when using cutting/slitting disks unless you want a horrific facial injury. Google "grinder accidents" to see why. Some lovely welding going on. Ref the square that you welded onto the wheel tub area with the hole cut out, you might want to check out Fitzee's Fabrications channel on YT for his "Butt welding sheet metal the easy way." where he demonstrates his famous cut-n-butt method. He tacks the new patch on, then cuts along the edge with the angle grinder at a 45 degree angle, so that the new and the old panel meet at well, 45 degrees for a perfect flush finish.

I'm generally a very anti car guy, I've used a bicycle for transport for most of my adult life and moved to a city where public transport meant I could even let go of my van. But minis are special. Mini is a historical design marvel! My aunt's first car was a 66 mini, her second was a 68 Mini Cooper S. So I had the coolest aunt on the road. And Mini has always held a special place in my heart Isignolis was a fing genius! A car that takes up barely the space of 2 bicycles but could carry 4 people and run on the smell of an oily rag, even beat V8s in races on tracks like Australia's Mount Panorama circuit. A rusty mini is a tale of survival and you are Victor Frankenstein keeping a piece of social history alive for the kids (and your passion, too obviously.) Did I say I love this?! Cause I do!

@ an experience I've always found tedious and sometimes, frankly, risky AF around some of the idiots out there. Not to mention, the minimum average cost of car ownership in Australia is $10000/year (NRMA figure), if I were an "N+1" bike nut, I could have a brand new, custom built bike every year for that money. Instead, by not owning a car, I can afford my home studio, a decent hobbyist workshop and a house in a nice street, all on my retirement fund income.

When your favourite music channel morphs into your new favourite car channel: "A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one." IMO leave it black with visible black paint on side. It'll add to look of old car that was repaired, but not very well. Worst case: You can always respray it later.
