@@kasper301615 I've always loved this music and Jesse's ability to write music. Now, we know he's (accusations deleted), we hear the remorse of someone who has done bad things. I think this song is about a rough time in life where it all seems to be happening to you and feeling completely alone with the pain you’re holding, as well as contemplating suicide. Asking “god why is this happening to me?” Because you know God/Jesus is suppose to love you unconditionally yet he’s put these dark and difficult times in your life so you’re almost like simultaneously losing faith in him. At least that’s how I can relate to the song. Plenty of times I lay in bed thinking everything good is happening somewhere else, I myself am not scared of death but if god does exist I’m afraid of judgement because i know I’ve made mistakes.

Interesting. I usually don't listen to the videos that aren't Weird Al or old Metallica, but the name of this one made me check it out. I can sympathize with a lot of it, but I'm the opposite in that I'm not afraid of death, but dying itself is what i have... fear, dread, unpleasant anticipation of... not sure how i would word it, but some combination of those. I would hope the writer would find the peace that comes with knowing it isn't up to us to be perfect. Perfection is something we are brought into, not something we bring to the party.

Mene by Brand New is an on the nose song about people who struggle with faith. Give it a whirl. They were wrapping up as a band a few years ago when old accussations came back to light about vocalist. Though was all done by then and the singer took amends, and from what was published those affected had forgiven transgressions. I think people knowing they were calling it quits tried to tarnish them again. They didn't really challenge it publicly and just ended the band as they intended.

This song actually gets a bit darker once you read some news articles from around the time and figure out what sin he's repenting for. Those pretty faces don't belong Jesus. On the subject of loneliness I think there is another way you could take some of those lines if you wanted to go a weirdly political direction with this. In the book of Acts the original Christians lived in communes where even sick and tired strangers were afforded cots. Given their economic condition (they had sold everything) this means they were sharing beds with strangers in a different sense. Biblically speaking the people closest to God and their own community were so close in fact that they shared a communal sense of belonging (both figuratively and literally). The more people relied on this idea of prosperity the further we got away from the teachings. I maintain that you can't both be a Christian and a capitalist, and that Dorian will likely get Satan's bottom bunk. On the other hand I'm also not a Christian so take this entire paragraph with a couple grains of salt and a pinch of pepper.

God is not gonna get fooled by any of us. Also God: “The Lord sent a pestilence on Israel from that morning until the appointed time; and seventy thousand of the people died” "Even at Horeb you provoked the Lord to wrath, and the Lord was so angry with you that He would have destroyed you." “And in the greatness of Your excellence You overthrow those who rise up against You; You send forth Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff." “By the breath of God they perish, And by the blast of His anger they come to an end. Seems this God of love that can't be surprised by anything needs some anger management. As for Jesus' suffering. One cannot suffer for another. If so they lesson gets lost. Quite the opposite if one would know that his actions are of no consequence because ultimately others will suffer those consequences this would be a very bad thing for humanity that's for certain. It only holds psychological value of solace to learn that another person suffered as well and suffering ultimately is part of life but can be endured with dignity and some sort of grace, yes. That’s why shielding parenting is so bad for kids who never learn to endure loss and disappointment. On the other had parents suffer for their kids or even die for them on a daily basis. People die for their ideals, Tibetan monks burning themselves for example and for me their sacrifice is even bigger than Jesus' one. Why? Because according to the bible Jesus KNEW he will come back. Those monks KNOW they won't and still the sacrifice everything. So what did people do? Invent some additional suffering into what Jesus did to get that argument out of the way. If you want it to be special you make it so I guess and yet we forget those living right here amongst us doing unspeakable things for others and to stay true to themselves (that never include harming other btw) but sure let's praise Jesus instead. It’s so comfortable to praise something from the distance, far away millennia ago vicarious in it’s execution (double meaning intended) and nature. Yeah in a way Vin you are blessed to be able to believe in all that. I’m working towards to be blessed in a way to not needing to believe at all and just accept what is. Now. Not shift my focus on what was 2000 years ago, not lose myself in some book and thoughts of someone else not in same doctrine not in some bigger picture and context. What is is enough. That’s the real truth imo. It's right in front of you in the silence of things and within you. If you want there to be more you distort that and shut yourself of from the truth. If you want it to be in the words of someone else you can't hear it anymore. Of course just my opinion. Everyone feel free to life live in whatever way they like but better not make that unsurpriseable god angry because he might kill you - out of love that is ofc.

Jesse from brand new began to despise organized religion bc of his evangelical parents. He knows the Bible like the back of his hand. All religions are fear programs, churches want to control the pple who are easily manipulated. Some churches are great, I’m thinking black churches. They no how make it a party. Hallelujah! The Thief in the night is actually how Jesus will come back n F up any church that preaches peace n safety. Jesus never came here for peace. The New Testament gave free will, bc the old divine plan 💯 contradicts itself. So when anything awful happens, u can’t blame Jesus or god. Humanity is to blame, n the old says god created us in his image which is BS. A god is indifferent to our primitive violence. He just observes. Jesus is our defender n whether or not he’s real does not matter, trust Jesus, u will trust urself to act when “evil” sh*t is happening. Faith takes incredible courage n maintenance. Just live, meditate n help those in need. Simple.
