Edit: And another song added to my "viddy well" main music playlist lol songs to it today, which isn't something that normally happens.. I've just been finding a lot of good music today. Some of the music I have already known, I just haven't heard it in a while / forgot about it because most of these songs are years old, but they bring back good memories of where I was when I remember hearing them... This one is a brand new one for me (no pun intended lol) but Yeah, just a lot of good music being found today :) Dude, I've only heard of brand new like maybe 10 years ago from this kid that started working at this job I had back then. I was probably 25, maybe 26? I think he was like 20, and at first I didn't really care for him because he seemed like a snobby hipster lol he learned from one of the other coworkers that I served in the army and deployed to Iraq a few times, and one day he came up to me and asked me what it felt like to be a baby killer hahaha So yeah needless to say, we didn't really get along at first. He had a Nirvana tattoo, and I love Nirvana, so we started just talked about music and stuff, and we eventually became super good friends, we had a whole lot of fun together partying and getting into trouble and shit, slacking off at work, etc.. And he would always be singing in that trademark high-pitched squealing, post hardcore "pizza/friends/I hate my town" tumblr sad-boy voice, and he would ask me if I knew any of these bands that he listened to (Glass Jaw, dozer, title fight, tiger something.. something with a tiger I think? And brand new). He showed me a few songs of some of these bands, I don't remember any of them, I just knew I didn't like them lol I have just never been a big fan of this style of post hardcore, again like with the whiny squealing vocals. I've never been a fan of emo / mall emo from the early and mid 2000s, I wasn't really a fan of pop punk like sum 41 and blink-182 either, and I still am not... I'm not a really big fan of metalcore either, because they do the same thing with the squealy girly vocals, like some of the instrumentation and like the heavy vocals in the scream sounds pretty sick, but then yeah they do the "good cop bad cop" vocal changeups (Good cop bad cop is a phrase I heard describing it somewhere), And it seems to me that people that enjoy those subgenres also tend to like these types of bands that I'm not a fan of. But anyway I was looking for a different song, and I discovered a cover of this song that was acoustic, I think it was like with a sepia filter, or maybe the room was just dark? It was two guys with a guitar and a third person that I think was a female? Anyway I heard the chorus and I thought it was a really good song, and so yeah here I am, listening to a song by Brand New, which was one of those sad boy emo post hardcore squeally, girly man, vocal type bands that my friend showed me years ago that I just wrote off lol mainly because I just feel like a lot of those bands in that genre, a lot of their songs to me just don't seem to have like any choruses or hooks, the timing is weird (And I say that being a big fan of jazz, I enjoy metal as well, which uses complex time signatures), But I felt like the weird timing in this genre was like.. I don't know.. I just thought of it as whiny sad boy music with no choruses, bland songwriting, and bad timing. But I really like this song. It actually kind of makes me think about Weezer combined with the misfit song "Saturday night", which is my absolute favorite misfit song (despite the Danzig versus Graves debate).
@TheInsaniacGuy Жыл бұрын
Having read all of this, I'll leave you with a suggestion if you're up for it - Brand New is unique in the sense of them stemming from this genre of bands (whose style you don't seem to favor, which is fine), and later becoming adept at experimenting with other sounds (almost in a Radiohead-esque manner), and becoming nearly unrecognizable from the band they started out as. Their songwriting, melodies, time signatures, etc. may be more your speed if you listen to their 2006 album, 'The Devil & God Are Raging Inside Me'; generally considered their magnum opus. But, speaking from a personal bias, I would also give their '03 album 'Deja Entendu' a try if you have the time, lol. Either way, I'm not saying you'll automatically become infatuated with either of these projects, but I think it's a safe bet to say you'll definitely find some gems to your liking.
@BillBraskyy Жыл бұрын
@@TheInsaniacGuy thanks dude. I totally forgot I wrote that comment (and how fkn long it was. Damn I almost wanna just take it down lol) but yeah, I'll look into those albums and see if I can find some other great tunes to add, because aside from stuff to do while waiting in line or just waiting in general, my main thing is building a music playlist like I used to have years ago (and _then_ some). Thank you much brah 🤙🏻

@bubblegumxo3 жыл бұрын
As already stated, Your Favorite Weapon in general is probably the closest thing, but that album is more emo/pop-punk sounding. They used to play this song along with that album so I assume this was written after YFW, but before Deja Entendu. But there aren't really "happy" songs on Your Favorite Weapon either. "Secondary" is probably the "happiest" sounding, followed by "Last Chance to Lose Your Keys" but in a different way. Maybe Soco Amaretto Lime for a very cheesy (not in the best way 🤣) acoustic song. Otherwise it's mainly bratty emo songs. Then even the jump from YFW to DE, they almost sound like a completely different band. This song is basically an anomaly, but it's a very sweet song, and after you have listened to Brand New post Your Favorite Weapon, for so long, it's that much better as an anomaly 🤣.
