I'd buy it today. I don't hate music because the writer does something bad. I think Jesse should go to jail for a few months and life should just go on and Brand New be a current band. Problem is, weren't they gonna break up anyway? I'll never understand how a band like this doesn't put out twice as much over this many years. What better contribution to the world could someone make?

Jesse 100% deserves a path to redemption. This culture where we hold people accountable in perpetuity for every mistake they've ever made is unfair, unnatural, and unsustainable. It's also incredibly hypocritical for us, as fans, to enjoy the products of "tortured artists" only to condemn them when we learn the details. Their album was titled "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" for Christ's sake. What did people think that meant?
@artaxAF

P.S. - We should all be extremely skeptical of people who engage in this type of public shaming/dragging, as there is a very clear and alarming trend of people who virtue-signal being exposed for the very actions they denounce, or worse.

I'm inclined to agree with you. Obviously I don't condone people using fame and influence to attempt to seduce underage girls, but who among us can say that we are the same person we were 10, 15, or 20 years ago? There's also a huge difference between what Jesse did and what, say, Ian Watkins of Lostprophets did (look it up if you don't know, but be warned - it's absolutely sickening). Watkins deserves to be erased from musical history. Jesse does not.

that shit has a name and hers is Michelle. That woman filleted me like a fish and then would sing the words to Tommy Gun in my ear. She loved the line 'cant keep a secret if it never was a secret to start' and after reconciling her cheating she would sing along with those lyrics and point out how its about us because everyone knew except for me and it took me months before she slipped up and was caught... and then while losing my mind and looking to friends for help, I find them admitting that they knew, even witnessed, confronted and had threatened all while I thought we were all good. You know whats fucked up? Fucking your fiance and later realizing that she had just come from fucking her sideproject... so carlos, whats yours name?

I’ve never had a band or music consume me like Brand New has. I’ve been captivated ever since the first day I heard them. And what’s funny is- the more you listen, no matter if it’s the thousandth time you’ve heard that song, the more you uncover. And then it digs itself that much further into your soul. That’s what good music does. It’s timeless, and never dies.

The song is believed to be titled "Lazy," as described by Jesse in this uncredited interview excerpt: "When Vinnie showed me ‘You Stole,’ I just thought that was the coolest thing I ever heard. Even some songs that didn’t make it on the record, like this song that Brian [Lane, drums] wrote we call ‘Lazy.’ When he brought that, at the time I was like, ‘This has to go on the album.’ And there’s days that I think it should have been there and there’s days that I don’t think it would have worked the right way. But I just remember hearing it and thinking I never would have though[t] to write that."

Everybody makes mistakes, most of which are forgivable, others require some thought. But from personal experience, growing up I had to learn how to deal with heartbreaks and depression. In more recent years I've realized those experiences were changing me into a person I dreaded to ever become. Someone that took advantage of beautiful people, mistreated my X-girlfriend, broke her trust, her heart and took for granted whatever love she'd give me by disrespecting it behind her back. Until 1 day she said "No more.." I felt like I lost all over her and part of me. I never got her back. But I knew that for the first time ever, I had to not learn how to get over someone hurting me, but get over the fact that I HURT someone. Forgiving people for what they've done is hard. But learning to forgive yourself is something I've come to find even harder. I couldn't face myself and allow myself to move on from the terrible things I've done. Almost like showing any sign of happiness was not allowed. Living with the reputation of a being terrible person didn't help either. But I knew it wasn't something I wanted to live with anymore. I'd like to think that people still see me as human that just wants to try to do better. Jesse did bad things, but I can guarantee its not something he wants to be know for anymore. "Trying the best that I can, I'm on my own." People wake up everyday with their lives ahead of them thinking, "Today's the day I'm going to start fresh" or "Next semester I'm going to really start new." I believe now, that it's not until you've lost everything, and been stripped away of all the layers you've built that the true opportunity to start new again is the best. This is when the soil is most richest to grow again, build something new and truly fill your "cup" with the good things that life has to give, so that we can then spill those good things onto the world.

Just allegations, I don't think he was convicted of anything, maybe he was, but I never saw him fight the allegations either. Him saying in the description "Thought this should see the light of day. Pre Devil and God era. I don't know if redemption is possible. Or if it should be. Bad people can do good things. Good people can do bad things. The alternative music community was built as a safe space for everyone that wants to be part. While redemption is always possible, there are certain actions and behaviors that exemplify the reasons why a safe space such as The Scene was needed for many, and I believe that once someone’s presence puts many individuals feeling threatened due to the cruciality of a modern issue such as misogyny or unconsentual sexual acts, that person should not be welcome into such a haven any longer.

Listening makes me think of all the years I've listened to them even though they've been making music for the exact amount of years I've been alive, and then it leads me to think of Batter Up, their last song every to be produced, about them passing the torch to the next group. Ugh I'll miss them

Gorgeous song. As for Jesse's message, I'm still not sure if he's a good man who did some horrible things or a bad man who did some wonderful things. Maybe he's a bit of both.

No matter what has happened Brand New’s work helped us all at one point. We all make mistakes, some worse than others but that’s the point of life. Growth isn’t a destination you get to where you think you’ve become the best person you can be, it’s the state of constant evolution. I’ll always be grateful for the way Jesse put some of the pain I was feeling into words. Like Jesus Christ...

His mistake was during college, a time when our brains are still developing and we make mistakes. It’s in the past Jesse is a great guy. I really wish Brand New wasn’t breaking up, but I’m so grateful for all they’ve given us over the years. Especially this last album, so beautiful and poetic. I’ll never have a love for another band that I have for Brand New.
@Morris3720

Maybe I have the story wrong. I heard it was just him cheating on his wife plus him sleeping with a girl he didn’t know was underage at a college party. Like a one time thing. I didn’t hear anything about him planning to meet underage girls
@Morris3720
@Morris3720 5 жыл бұрын
But if that’s actually been proven with a guilty verdict or him admitting to it, then yeah that’s a whole new ballgame. It’s hard to believe that a guy like Jesse would knowingly hook up with minors though. Plus I’m a huge believer in innocent until proven guilty.

Noah Roth-Saalberg yeah I looked it up. There was just one underage girl who said he allegedly got nudes from her and masterbated with her on skype. But she did say she lied about her age to him but was 15 at the time so definitely not a good situation to be in for Jesse
@danman6669
@danman6669 5 жыл бұрын
Well, if Jesse didn't know her real age, then it shouldn't be that big a deal. Unfortunately, lots of underage girls lie about their ages to sleep with rock stars, so he wasn't the first to be fooled and won't be the last.

Our brains never stop developing, David. As long as we keep learning, our brains continue growing. It's when people stop learning new ideas or concepts that the brain starts atrophying. That's why they say to stay active all throughout our lives, since it helps alleviate and prevent early dementia or Alzheimers.

Nice. Totally digging this song. I thought 2017 was it as far as hearing anything new from Brand New but this little gem dropping right at the end of 2018 is such a pleasant surprise. I hope that there will be more songs that will be leaked over the next year or two. The band is really something special. From the lyrics to the instrumentals and Jesse’s vocals. If they truly are done making new music then at least we can get leaked demos. I hope they’re all enjoying peace in their quiet lives now away from all of the sycophants in this country.
