Not fair! They shouldn't be allowed to demolish farms!!

Well, farmers are rare today. Most little farmers has closed in the past decades.

Not surprising - what with low prices (when I was a lad, a ton of wheat would buy a small car, now it buys you a meal) and council compulsory purchase, there isn't much of a future for the small operator.

A touch of 'dry rot' methinks in those beams - looked as if it had been empty for some time. Prime building land I suppose now, - the town develops out towards it and suddenly the farmer finds himself with land worth a fortune, just happened near me, a farmer got planning permission for 200 acres. Goodness only knows what he got for it, but all his family are driving brand new cars and the rest of the farm is up for sale, - whats left of it - sad really. Another bit of country-side will be gone forever and we don't have that much as it is.

We've astronomic prices here. Didn't found a payable house or larger arpartment for rent. Today you pay for a simple single family dwelling same like for a manor 15 years ago. I live in an old farmhouse and my landlady owns several houses because of selling her land for housing.

Same over here, I feel sorry for the young nowadays 99% will never be able to afford to buy there own houses, - result, - the landlords get richer and the 'working class' get poorer. Either that, or they end up with a 40 year mortgage which is so much both of them have to go out to work to have any money to live on.

I expect he paid off the mortgage and spent the rest on the family!

I believe, (from what I have heard), he's retired to the South of France, or somewhere similar, personally, if it is was me I would be off 'like a shot' out of this Country. Knowing a few farmers, (which I do), they own most own their farms, and since this one had been his fathers, I shouldn't think he had a mortgage.
