To the bass player, Jaco would be proud of you!

Brilliant! I'm sure Bach would agree. Noam, the banjo man, nailed it.

oh wow what an exciting performance of an exciting piece of music!! Hats off to everyone, but ESPECIALLY the banjo player - Bach sounds GOOD on banjo!! I thought it was for 9 instruments and counted 8 - didn't seem to hear anything missing, though... zowie!
@RikardPeterson6 жыл бұрын
The original is 9 plus continuo (I looked it up): three violins, three altos and three cellos. But this part of it has all the cellos playing with the continuo, leaving only seven separate parts, so you're right both in that it's written for more people and that it still is complete in this setting.

oh I see - just in the last movement the cellos don't have separate parts for each one. gotcha. Good reason to choose to play this part!

The awesome thing about Bach is that it seems to sound good on almost anything.

Bela Fleck did a whole album of classical music a few years back and it is GREAT. I recommend it if you like Bach on the banjo!

Bach is the height of culture and cool. No joke -- he is the OG classical gangstah.

I turned on KCUR FM last night and this was what greeted my Bach-starved ears. There is a God!

I can't help wondering what my father, who loved classical music and played (mostly) classical piano, would have thought of this performance. I'd like to think he would have loved it because, well, how could anyone not love this (in spite of the three down votes).

Noam nailed it!

oh for sure, but if you listen with really good sound system you can also tell Pauls' double base builds so much for what everyone, including Noam's banjo to rely on too

Who was your genius arranger? I’m just awed at the stuff the show pulls together. Rich must have nightmares midweek! Somehow it all works when the on air light goes on.

Rob Moose, the fiddle/violin player from yMusic, arranged this one.

It's a slight variant of the arrangement Rob played with the Punch Brothers on the Antifogmatic DVD.

Clean banjo playing is so pleasing. Leftover Salmon has a great banjo player who can match the clearity of a piano. This banjo player is one of my favs too

The banjo takes the place of the harpichord. Nothing new. But this version is too slow, not nervous enough. Listen for exemple il giardino harmonico version.

I think I actually prefer the arrangement without the cello and viola, where Critter is taking the cello parts on the guitar and Noam is taking all the viola on the banjo. I dunno. Maybe the viola and cello are just mixed too loud for me, or these headphones aren’t right, but I much prefer a banjo-forward mix. Still. Quibbles aside, this is incredible.
