Thank you Emily for making sure to include Joni Mitchell as she too has been a beacon for us all. Belinda amazes me more and more the more I see see her, understand her associations, the integrity of her passions, and am awed by her connectedness to all that I see as a concerted American voice throughout decades of yearning and struggle achieving milestones for the Country and it's growth in Life, Liberty and Freedom. Amy & Emily congratulations you deserve this award as well as all the best life has to offer you both in all aspects. Thank you for everything, Belinda and Joni you too. God bless you all and all that you hold dear. Sincerely, P.M. 💜

I found Amy & Emily at a music store in 1990 in Mountain View, CA I’ve seen them live more times than I even know… I don’t agree with all of their stands…but, they have IMHO always been about incredible music… Probably my favorite group…ever.

A coworker turned me on to the Indigo Girls, also sometime around 1990. We were both straight white computer techs, but the Indigo Girls were AWESOME, and when I found out they were gay, I was "So what?" I have had friends who were gay, and trans, since the 80s. People are people, give me a break. I took a girl I was dating to an Indigo Girls concert, and she decided I was weird because of that. Wanted to know if I was 'a college girl or something?', like that would be an insult. Clearly that relationship was going nowhere! I am always happy to share the good news with anyone ( By which I mean, the IG are still around and still touring! ) We aren't going to talk religion or politics, though. It is just how the world is right now.

"What in the world is Americana? Is it a genre? Is it a philosophy? Is it country music for liberals." ... it was at this point that my tears turned to joyous laughter. This is such a great introduction and so worth the watch. And that quote isn't even the best part!

So AWESOME AND INSPIRATIONAL! And I am also very sad and worried about the condition of Emily's voice. We all need to keep singing your songs and spreading your message and appreciate all that you gave us - incredible lyrics, guitar payling and gorgeous melodies and harmonies.

I know. She always had that pure sweet voice that would bring me to tears with it's beauty. Their harmonies were always incredible and totally uplifting.

I am so grateful to find this. I cannot remember an adult life without The Indigo Girls. No. I don’t recall the actual year, perhaps the early 90s?, when I discovered the Indigo Girls, but they have NEVER EVER been left of any playlists I’ve made. They are absolutely always in my mix of songs, even when on Dead tour and road trips all over this nation where I rarely allowed anything but Dead related bands played in my auto. I never knew the struggles of non heterosexual people. Because it was not my road. So I never ever knew about being biased. Or bigoted. I learned along the way about others’ experiences. Why some friends did not ever have an intimate partner perplexed me. I chose not to be involved because I always attracted abusive men. They never talked about their reasons. Now they do. Some are married to same sex partners. Some are still looking. But now I understand. And The Indigo Girls will always be a part of those stories for me. Because I always respected them for who they were as much as what they gave. And I still do. This is beautiful!! I hope The Indigo Girls forever light those torches. They are the purest beauty that is possible from humans. Love. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

A wonderful tribute to two amazing women. I've loved them ever since I heard "Closer to fine" on pop-up video circa 1997. Saw them at Shepherd's Bush in the early noughties and many times since. I admire their principles and relentless energy, as well as their always brilliant performance. I may disagree with some of their politics in recent years (ironically my favourite song from the last album is about a sentiment I disagree with) but they always seem willing to state their position in good faith and do what they believe is right. Vastly underrated legends.
