New single was just released in Australia "The Man". I just heard it on Friday morning on the radio station as I was doing my deliveries (I'm a courier), and it blew me away. I was hooked from the beginning. They went to the phones and people were just saying they "loooooooved it!". It's a real departure; it's fresh, excellently produced and...did I mention fresh? ...oh...and it's fresh!!!

To Cynthia B: In Genius it explains that either:1) magic soaking my spine means doing acid Or 2) "As mentioned in the line above, he’s broken down and given up - through with waiting, he’s decided to confront her by going to her house. The “magic soakin' my spine” is two things. One, he’s very nervous. You know the feeling you get? The tingling in the back of your spine that makes your legs feel like noodles? Yeah, that’s that. Two, he’s past the point of no return - the “magic” is him being convinced she’ll take him back, all he has to do is confront her and talk to her about it. Maybe if she sees how much he’s hurting, she’ll take him back for sure."Hope u r still a fan. If it's abt drugs he wldnt say that on record

That's weird! I'm an English teacher and for years have used 'magic soaking my spine' as a way into poetry for 11-12year olds. We brainstorm three words; magic, soaking, spine, and explore their literal meanings as well as figurative and the connotations they have in a range of senses. e.g Magic: something unbelievable, mesmerising, delightful, surprising, thought-provoking, totally out of the ordinary. Same for Soaking, then Spine. We end up knowing that he's enthralled and dazzled by this girl, so much so that it affects every nerve and cell of his body right to the core of all bodily feeling. I.e the spine. The strength of his feelings is made certain from a mere three words. Genius. I use other songs, too, but this line and this song are my favourites to demonstrate how so much can be conveyed with only three words. ( But no words can express my shock at an adult who gleans nothing at all from them! Poor Brandon- what an insulting question!)!'

Well, regarding the whole ‘Read My Mind’ moment and it’s subjective resonance, as others have stated, it may imply that he’s carrying LSD to that driveway - but I’m not buying that. “...waiting on some sign. I pull up to the front of your driveway...with magic soaking my spine. can you read my mind?” Knowing this guy is shy in general and, was very insecure back in those days, it seems clear to me that the lyric means he has finally arrived at the doorstep of the one he wants and the nervous tingling that comes from a moment like that gets erased once you gain the confidence to knock on the door - feeling lucky, so to speak, IS the magic. Otherwise, he’d be spineless and Mr Flowers can’t be that - because we all know he’s The Man.

He must have been very sensitive about his family background when they first started. If you look at their cohort, many came from very wealthy or educated background (rich parents or parents already doing music or art related jobs). Kinda like a rich kids do art thing. Back then most of the bands all started in either LA or NYC. The Killers came from blue collar families outside of these cities. The band got so popular so fast. Wonder if there were lots of hostilities coming from others in the industry that think they didn't deserve it? Would be great to have a real memoir of this band in the future. The art scene has always been occupied by people from legacy or rich families; would be interesting to learn about those that breakthrough from the middle class.
