Honestly the whole thing in Lily CAT about how deep space travel displaces you from time is probably the most interesting thing about the movie. It's something that you never really see addressed in sci-fi, imagine how horrifying it must feel to know you can never really go home, because home is 40 years in the past.

The rest of the movie may be dull and slow-moving, but I really like the cyclops in "Contamination". They did a good job making it look really gooey and unpleasant, and the design is highly memorable - it manages to look both malevolent and emotionless at the same time, which is what you want for your gross alien mind-control monster.

The padding-like exposition heavy dialogues of LILY Cat makes me appreciate the more unusual but realistic "talk normally like it was another day at work and explain the existence of robots in the setting ONLY when it comes up/matters to the plot" from Alien, its less clunky and makes me feel Im genuinely looking into a futuristic spacecraft with people who act mundane about it and dont explain things they should already know to themselves for the benefit of the viewer. All the worldbuilding wannabe chit-chat in LILY didn't really matter to the story that much or made me care more for the doomed characters and felt more like a constant "You're watching a cliched SciFi thing!" or very "As you know"-esque

I mean come on, they and we deserved that happy ending. Alien 3 I saw and threw away in my mind. Alien 4 aka Resurrection stood on it's own separate from the others. I mean it took place 75yrs after the "Aliens" story line. Ripley was a clone experiment hybrid. Newt and Bishop would be maybe still alive. Bishop definitely.

ALIEN CONTAMINATION: "The Lieutenant sticks around because...I dunno, he's third billed?" Yes, that's why! But the in-universe reason is likely that he's seen what those eggs do first-hand, and the Government doesn't want information about them getting out before they know what they're dealing with. You can either send him on his way and risk him going to the newspapers (remember when people could do that?) with his story, or you can deputize him and get his help....

It's hard to imagine just how bad ( and not necessarily wonderfully bad) Roger Corman's concept of Alien would have been.. I mean seriously, there are so many different directions he could have gone with it. So many different ways he could have screwed it up. So many great and even iconic scenes that might have ended up corny and cringe worthy because he decided to save a few extra bucks here or there. Jeez, I wonder who he would have ended up casting for the main and supporting roles. Or what the alien itself would have ended up looking like. It wouldn't be called a Xenomorph in his version because, at least if I remember correctly, that name was something that Geiger and Scott came up with...at least I think (memory gaps Suck!). I bet it would've ended up being constructed by throwing a bunch of different elements from prior "scary alien" films he made in the past, and just sort of pieced together something new, yet still strangely familiar looking, out of all of his old props. Wow, my mind is racing over the possibilities now! 😂😂
