My sister and I, and some of our friends, endlessly quote this movie to each other. These quotes mainly consist of "hewuuum-whhhuuurm" (the pulsating egg noise), "Help! Help! There's an egg!" "I don't know what Mars IS! And I was never THERE!" And my friend Laura, who's a doctor of film studies, often advises, "Whatever it was, IT CAME OUT OF THAT BOX OF COFFEE!!!" Wise words.

Same here. Some wonderful memories watching this with my older brother, and noticing that NONE of the gore was cut out.. on a local channel (I loved how when the first guy blows up on the cargo ship, it would flip back-and-forth to Elvira waving her hands in front of her eyes as the guy was blowing up). It didn't hurt to have my mom pop up around the corner asking "what are you watching?" right before the finale and giving her the ole "oh nothin.. just another horror movie", and being completely horrified if she came in and actually SAW what was on the tv screen.

The Cyclops is...fairly impressive, I guess; sure, unlike the Xenomorph Queen (or even the alien cucumber creature in It Conquered the World) it's firmly stuck in one place, but the crew working behind it is giving it all the life they can and its method of devouring Kramer head-first is pretty squicky. But seriously, who knew that squib torsos could become boring? (Note to whoever's remaking The Fury...don't overdo the corpseplosions.) Thank goodness for (The) Goblin. Brandon....interesting note....one of the reasons that Italian directors would "Americanize" their names was simply for distribution purposes. In a lot of the tradeshows win for an investors, and most the time American investors or distributors, would come and try to pick up movies to see if they could pass off as the real deal, they would gravitate towards Italian exploitation. They were usually just presented with a poster with very few names attached to it. That way, not even the investor would really see how many foreign people worked on the production. This proved handy when going straight to video towards the mid-80s after their run on grind house circuits.
@jiujitsu777 жыл бұрын
Also, in some instances, it was done as a sort of "Alan Smithee" deal. Basically if a director wanted to distance himself from the project but had contractual obligations, they would do this as well. Bruno Mattiei comes to mind. Forgive the typos

He was an established actor playing TV roles but was in War movies too, playing german officers etc. In his later career he became an absolute audience favorite playing the captain of "Das Traumschiff" (dream boat), a kind of soap opera at exotic destinations. After that he was captain of another cruise ship and finally a doctor in the german alps. I suppose "Contamination" is one of his "skeletons in the closet". He died in 2018.
