Hi Brandon! I really like yours video´s here in your channel 😃👍, I am a beginner and I have some options on my little welder that I really don't understand. What is Hot Start and Arc Force and what do they do? Big gratings from Norway.
@BrandonLund3 жыл бұрын
@Roy Braathen Hot start is basically a short burst of current as you ignite your arc. It significantly increases the ease of starting electrodes, especially in difficult conditions such as damp electrodes or when using ‘difficult to run’ electrodes. Arc Force, sometimes called "Dig" or "Arc Control", is similar to hot start, except arc force operates during welding, not just at ignition. When the welding machine senses a short circuit it will deliver a peak of current. This greatly assists in stabilizing the arc, preventing the arc from cutting out while welding and prevents the electrode from sticking.

Thank you 😃👍 both Hot start and Arc force can I adjust in my welder from 0-50 ! ! Hope you can make a short video how to use and adjust these settings in the future 👍👍👍

Nice video. I'm curious who is disliking this video, but not daring to leave any comments to improve.

Do you need to have to sign in for millerwelds.com to get information

No you do not. You can also google "welding calculator" to get you to their page.

Have you checked over the welder itself? also, sometimes (actually quite often) workpieces on a grounded benchtop will arc out, that can cause stuttering sometimes. "The size of your rod don't matter as long as you get good penetration in all positions darling" -as the "actress" said to the Bishop :) Hot BBs in yr boot -used to call that the slag kickers can can.
@BrandonLund7 жыл бұрын
Jaques Daniels I haven’t checked it but I need to. Whatever holds the amp setting inside the machine seems to be slipping. The amperage lever was dropping. I plan to lift her dress and see if anything is off. Those hot BB’s on the foot are a real treat!

Praise God, your eyes are all right now. Injury hazard is everywhere. At work, danger is part and parcel of life. The only way not to get hurt is to stay at home watching TV and we are not 100% safe yet. We can never be too super careful. Making first some tests on which rod we have to use before starting out a job is not a bad idea.

Thanks buddy! I've been lucky over the years but many have not. Now to I try to at least be careful and think about risks beforehand

rod oven? please explain that in your next video
@BrandonLund7 жыл бұрын
casy casy I probably won't cover it in a video just because its a bit advanced but i wanted to answer your question. In short, a rod oven is basically a small heated storage container that holds your welding electrodes and keeps them warm to a set temperature so they don't hold moisture. 7018 rods are susceptible to moisture where as they are low hydrogen. It's not crucial to a home hobby welder, but for coded work (work that needs to meet a certain criteria) it can be very problematic. Mainly porosity in the weld and porosity will fail an inspection.

Are you running on AC? I'm surprised you even tried to use those old rods!
@BrandonLund7 жыл бұрын
+Gordon Reiher yes ac. I was curious to see what would happen. The 6011’s were damp to the touch lol. I’m surprised I kept it lit lol

There was a time when a welding helmet shade was really, really dark, and what else would you expect. What I learned is that you flood the zone (with light). Then, twenty years later, when I came back to welding, everyone's talking auto-darkening like it's a real thing. But you know what, even today, it's never a bad idea to flood the zone. Just light it up. And keep those plastic lamp parts well back from the welding splatter.

I'm in that old school category too bud with the little 2x4 shade 13 glass, now it's all digital with Tru view and panoramic view. Pretty crazy how something so simple has changed for the better. I couldn't go back now.

Next time use this method Make a contact between the electrode and the metal for about 20 sec The electrode will heet and dry it self
