MIG Welding Aluminum Repairing and Building Dirt Bike Parts. I bought some budget friendly oversized aluminum dirt bike foot pegs but they dont fit as they should. To fix this we are going to build up the footpeg by welding with aluminum mig wire. Then we will grind the area smooth until it fits perfect. We are also fabricating an aluminum speedometer bracket.

Thank you for your opening comment regarding thinking outside of the box when solving a problem. In particular, your solution to the speedometer mount is priceless! I have friends and relatives who want me to "weld" them a solution. Your mount using a drill and screws is a perfect example of the best fit solution to a problem. Thank you also for your personal advice of averting sweetheart issues using their cherished belongings. I suppose if they figured out they sometimes hold the key to our success, things would go so much smoother. Dish towels and nail polish, I'll never forget these two!

Glad you mentioned wearing gloves as I had a sanding disk fly apart leaving a small gash in my index finger. Even your thin tig gloves would give you some protection.

Man that's for sure. I'm a idiot and took off all the safeties on my 5 grinders and cant find them. So I have cut myself 4 or 5 times now. Even with leather gloves, at 12K RPC, it cuts through, but far better than nothing. I do know I am looking to replace my grinders with paddle ones and will NOT be removing the guards for sure lol.

As always, your advice and instructions are what I wacth your videos for. My welding is improving (sort of....still not great) but the fabrication advice is priceless and what I weld will stay together so there is that!!! Really love the way your go about setting things up. Be well, be safe, and you CAN go to the store and by your OWN nail polish!!! Just a suggestion for future reference!!!

I have always loved working with Aluminum. My life goal is go get a suitable welder, maybe Tig (but have the Yeswelder bookmarked to get), and just goto town making stuff out of ALuminum. I have no clue WHY I love working with Aluminum so much. It's a weird addiction. and wait.. You're a grandfather? Either you age like fine wine or you started young lol

Hahahahahah Aluminum welding is a lot of fun. It's fun to cut and finish. I like it a lot too. Funny story...a few years ago I was sitting next to my daughter at the dentist. The lady across from us knew my daughter (I had never seen her before). The lady secretly took our picture and sent it to her daughter with a text saying "I think Adriana has a new boyfriend" (meaning me) My daughter was so grossed out. I walked around the rest of day like a peacock lol. I'm 51, my daughters 21 and her son is 4. I'd love to say it's years of taking good care of my body and eating good but I would be lying lol.

2 questions one is the name of your other channel? Well I only had one question. I had a floppy disc on my angle grinder without a guard and I was wearing shorts. I dropped it while it was running and it hit the floor and I didn't jump back, it came back up and put a nice gash in my leg just above my ankle. And it didn't bleed much or really hurt at first. My wife went into action, she works for a company that makes medical devices and on came the new skin. Lesson learned real fast and the guard never comes off.

Does the Fronius Transsteel welds aluminium without the need of spool gun too?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 жыл бұрын
Yes sir @Jose Vazquez however I have never tried in fear i'll mess something up when I replace the liner. I'm really careful with the Fronius. I should probably give it a try sometime. I'm sure it will be incredible. I have this setup pretty much for MIG 100% of the time but it would be interesting to see how it does.

Hello Brandon,, here's an outside of the box question,,, Has anyone ever tried to use aluminum electric fence wire for welding wire? It's very stiff and would feed well in a MIG but two unanswered questions remain,,,, one I don't know what type of aluminum it's made from and number two it's .050in. and wondered if that was to large. but I still wonder if anyone has ever tried using it. Thanks Ron
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 жыл бұрын
Great question Ron! I think the diameter might be the issue because the closest mig gun contact tip size is .045 but it might be interesting to try tig welding with it

Brandon, one needs to be careful wearing gloves around rotating equipment. I took a coworker to the medical center because a glove he was wearing pulled his fingers into a circular blade on a gang saw. Osha considers it a safety violation to wear gloves because of the risk of the aforementioned problem. I argued with my boss about this, and he actually looked it up and then apologized because it could put a person at risk of damages from say, a glove getting twisted around a drill bit.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100% @Bryant Fry. Lathes and drill presses are also machines that gloves can be a problem. I generally wear gloves when grinding but smaller delicate parts I dont because I know I need good control
