WaveRunner Sitting 19 Years - Frustrating Repair

After working on a dozen PWC carburetors over the last 20 years, it's always the damn diaphragm fuel pumps that go bad from sitting. They get crusty. That's the Yamaha I learned how to ride on when I was a little kid. Bringing back memories! 360's for days!

I bought a pair 89 and 90 the 90 ran and the 89 nope then I put a gy6 racing cdi in the 89 and bam she flew circles on the 90 so I am currently about to install the same cdi in my 90, love these and your vid thanks man

A tech tip: A very good replacement for the small hose clamps used on jetski fuel lines are 3/8" PEX clamps. They are single use, yes, but they don't have sharp tangs sticking out to cut your hands on the next time you go to work on the machine.

Good advice. I bought a boat and paid a guy to haul it from NYC to Vermont. Somewhere around Hartford, one of the wheels on the trailer fell off, travelled across 6 lanes of highway, jumped the median, travelled across six more lanes of traffic. Luckily the trailer had a double axle and stayed upright with one tire missing. Boat weighed about 6000 lb. No accidents luckily.

Dang that engine is pristine. Bet it doesn't have 20 hours on it. Lol. You threw the carb in the cleaner can without taking it apart. That's a first. Love seeing these old skis get tinkered on a get a new life. I could watch these videos all day.

I wish there was like an Amazon carburator replacement for these Yamahas... I have one like this 90's model and tried a couple times to rebuild the carbirator, but no success. Your video has inspired me to maybe tried yet again( since it is parked on the side of my house collectng dust) ... I bought last week a replacement carburator for my old craftsman lawn moer and after years it came to life like brand new! ... I wish to accomplish the same for this fun water toy for my 12 year old.

Yamaha 2 strokes are akin to a briggs and Stratton.... Once you know how they tick, they run forever and are very easy to work on. Do a compression test a crank pressure test and then sort out fuel/carbs. Thats it.

After the Lady rode my stand-up jetski, she has no interest in a sit down. I may not be repairing it. Maybe if her friend come visit and want to go ride them around or something, otherwise we have no real interest in it.

@@BrandonsGarage I don't know Brandon, I have a '94 GTS which is the stripped down version of GTX you have and it is pretty fun to monkey around on. The GTX with the 25-30 more horsepower should be a fun ride. If you do want something from that vintage of Sea Doo line that is more nimble, an XP or SPX would do well (generally, any of the two seat machines).

You missed some very important steps you didn't set pop off pressure you didn't do fuel pressure check on the entire system you didn't trim back the spark plug wires you didn't check the high and low speed settings the list goes on and on if you do all of these things and a few more it will run like a top

Brandon, not to be a safety Nazi or anything but you really need to wear your lanyard when riding a PWC. If you ever got dumped off the machine, you will never be able to swim fast enough to catch it if it is drifting away from you at idle.

i have the same carb on a wr500 and i have to fully choke it to get it to start any suggestions anybody

Do yourself a favor and just buy a new off brand square body carb off Amazon and be done!
