Agreed, given I'm an android user and just bought the s23 at the start of the year, I'm waiting till it's no longer getting updates, but by then the apple watch ultra series will be fantastic, and even better than it is now. And I'm certain I'll at least try it out.

In the KZbin video "The REAL Reason You Should Buy An Apple Watch Ultra," the creator shares his personal experience of completing a road trip without his phone and condensing the footage into a three-minute video. He emphasizes that the Apple Watch Ultra's true power lies beyond its specs and discusses how it helped a 41-year-old man manage his addiction to social media by offering necessary connections while eliminating distractions. The watch's impressive features, such as cellular service, credit card storage, and robust health tracking, make it a game-changer for the man's daily life. The speaker also shares their own experience with battery anxiety using a regular Apple Watch and how the Apple Watch Ultra provides a sense of freedom by allowing them to leave their phone at home, although it may not be suitable for ultra endurance athletes. Despite some minor quirks, the speaker highly recommends the Apple Watch Ultra for those who can afford it for the feeling of disconnection while still receiving important metrics.

Excellent video! I have an Ultra, and occasionally swap it back for one of my analogue watches, but when I use the Ultra with cellular, I love it - the feeling of casting off the shackles of my phone is amazing. Literally feel lighter, more present. But still communicatable (word…?). And can pay for stuff. It’s great. And like others, might dust off my old DSLR, as taking pictures is the only thing I miss not having my phone.

One thing I did was pick the 13 Mini and have decided to stay with it. I need it for online banking and other useful functions like email and texts but I keep it fairly limited to apps that are functional. My Ultra 2 is fast becoming my go to device for communications by phone and texting via dictation vice typing. I’m discovering that I really don’t need to have my phone with me all the time. The Ultra/Ultra 2 makes that possible. In fact, if I were going on a trip I would take my iPhone, Ultra and my camera but leave the phone in the hotel. Good job.

Very nice video, especially the first mini movie. I just don’t agree with that part that it's not watch for Iron Man etc. I took Ultras to 100km trail (i did it for 25 hours). Put it into low power mode and had an iPhone in my backpack (so watch used iPhone’s GPS instead of it's own). But after those 25 hours with hiking workout turned on I had about 60 % of battery! So any one day workout has to be easy, just set it up before.

Dude, I really appreciate this video and it's the first video I've ever watched of yours. I also got the Ultra when it first came out, so over a year ago. It's hands down my favorite piece of technology. I leave my phone at home all the time and it's freeing. I so relate to what you were talking about with Instagram and needing to disconnect more. The Ultra is a piece of tech in a long while that I feel like benefits us in the sense of it creates a method to stay connected, without being too connected. I also literally have zero marks on mine and I snowboard, surf, backpack and have a crazy 1.5 yr old who is always trying to bite it. I loved this video. Also we just went to the Oregon Coast a few weeks back and stayed at the Hallmark right in front of Haystack rock, so that was fun to see. Also love all the Melin gear, I might be more addicted to Melin hats than Instagram now 😂

Awesome video. When the Apple Watch was first introduced, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous. Yet, another way to be even more closely tethered to tech and social media. After finally folding and purchasing a Series 7 a couple years ago, I quickly learned that the Apple Watch (with cellular) accomplishes the exact opposite! And I’m so happy you’ve highlighted this truth in your video. …around the same age and same problem btw 😅

It's a relatively big screen that can replace your phone for the important things and avoid part of the wasted time we spend on the phone... and this should ultimately reduce anxiety. Also the battery thing is real as well. Not having to worry about it reduces anxiety a bit gime, I always try to get the bigger phone, to get the bigger battery

You very accurately describe my feeling of owning the Ultra watch. It is the feeling, the awareness of all that it can do, that it is so universal, and covers so many different aspects. That many people do not understand that the built-in apps are in many cases only intended for demonstration, and not the ultimate, and that the ultimate must be found in the APP store, it's such a shame for the watch, but it's just in the reason. people's misunderstanding. For example, built-in workouts may not be the best, but you can download so much else. The same applies to navigation, sailing, - yes, almost everything you can dream of. From Photo to Cars, from Astrology to Zoology.

its a good piece of technology. but consider this idea: apple was the first(?) company that launched a "smartphone" with a good touch display, camera and all that. smartphones became popular and became more entertaining rather than practical. and heres the thing: ALL of those companies now launch watches to stay head on head with their competition, but they also make that extra profit. and a sad argument for some smartwatch buyers is, like it is for me and you Brandon, that we build more distance to our phone and be free again... AFTER they made us being addicted to their technology. so their strategy would be like: develop an addictive smartphone. make the user deseperate for an alternative. offer them a new solution by offering them a smartwatch. profit more and create your own brand ecosystem (like apple, google). and this is sad. but of course the apple watch is an extremely efficient device and i dont hate it. im gonna buy this watch as well soon.

I'm so glad you made this video. I've been searching for something exactly like this. I would love it if you could make a follow-up that details your day-to-day usage of both devices. I want to make this transition myself but want to know that it's making a real difference every day and I would love to hear how you choose "today is going to be a phone day" vs a "watch day."
@BrandonTalbot
@BrandonTalbot 11 ай бұрын
Sure thing! But it would be incredibly hard to just label it a phone day or a watch day, it really depends on what my needs are. Like I said in the video, I could have done (and have done) everything on my watch. The only reason I needed my phone was to control the camera app. I'm personally just seeing the phone more and more as unnecessary. I leave my phone on my nightstand when I go to bed, and it stays there when I wake up. All my work is done on the computer. IG & YT is now done on the computer as well, and not the phone. To make my workouts more efficient I just take the watch because I take less breaks and work harder when I just have music and I'm not texting or watching KZbin video. I will say the phone has an advantage over the watch when it comes to maps because of the real estate, so if I NEED to go somewhere I never have, the phone is less stressful to rely on, but other than that, everyday is "everything but the phone" day.

I had a first or second gen Apple Watch and got rid of it because it was adding distraction on top of my phone addiction/distractions. With new battery life in the Ultra, I came back to the watch, so I could leave my phone behind. Man, this is freeing and I even use theatre mode all the time to limit the 'screen lights up' distraction. As a Gen X'er, I grew up without the distraction of phones and this move has been a blessing that was actually easy to do. I love when I go out to dinner and someone asks me to check my phone for something. I just tell them I don't carry that. Plus, I don't have that stupid weight always in my pocket, that often gets in the way when squatting down to tie up shoes.

I had the light phone for 6 months and it was amazing but definitely a challenge at times. I had to go back to my iPhone 13 mini due to some limitations I had during a medical emergency. That said I felt so free and having a smartphone again is kind of stressing me out even without using 90% of the features and dumbing down the phone. This does seem like a good compromise though. @@BrandonTalbot Thanks luckily it didn't have any long-term issues. It was just concerning that I was not able to contact anyone when in the ER due to lack of reception. The texting was also a pain when doing it in mass (mostly because the e-ink screen). If it had an LCD screen (which they are doing for LP3) and ability to have pop-ups solely for logging into public wifi (for wifi calling) it would be the perfect device.

Currently have AW7 which I love, but definitely want to upgrade to AW Ultra later this year. I do love the idea of leaving my iPhone at home more, 2 things holding me back, the loss of the camera app and also Apple Books app, I know I could switch to Apple Books audio but I do love the actual act of reading a book in my spare time.

Great dilemma to have I guess:) if you can read an actual hard copy instead of an app I’d say it’s probably worth your effort and experimentation:)

I already made the decision of getting the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 that just came out, but I’m still rocking the Apple watch (3rd gen?j from like 2015 so there are some obvious reasons for the decision to switch.. This video was such a joy to watch bc of the real, true feeling you were able to get across. Now I know it’s not just an tech upgrade, this watch can really improve my life in other very meaningful ways - and I could relate to your message 100%! Great vid man, you earned the like and sub midway the video and I’ll be checking your other clips too in the future. Thank you so much.

This the reason i picked up my ULTRA 2. Now my iPhone stays in the car, my iPad Pro on my desk with Logitech combo touch keyboard, along side my MacBook 2013. But yup this is how it was meant to be, apple eco system..along side AirPods A+ rating.

I loved this. Loved the self-reflection, the honesty, the perspective, and the way you helped us feel through the journey with you. Maybe it’s the algorithms, but watching this is almost serendipitous for me. I was just musing with a friend yesterday about how our brains are not evolved to handle to constant bombardment of echo-chamber content and bad news. The steady stream leaves me feeling exhausted, angry and fearful most days. He encouraged me to remove my news widgets and unnecessary notifications. It feels like I’m weaning off a drug, but in just 24 hours I notice myself feeling more at peace and with greater bandwidth. Just got the AWU2 last week, so maybe it’s time to plan some hikes. At the same time, most of our can’t spend our lives off the grid. As inspired as I felt by your week-long trek, I would love if and how you’re maintaining a healthy disconnection in your day-to-day life.

I know once I admit there’s a problem verbally to a person or party I’ve already admitted defeat months or years ago mentally. The importance of acknowledging the problem is the challenging part for a lot of people and it consumes them … I feel like most people do have understanding on what I’m saying but I think people think about it too much. For me at least I know I can put down the phone and drop it for the rest of my life and have no problem with doing so. Yes I’m guilty to a fault, my screen time is over 7 hours a day easily. But I also do know how important it is to stay connected with family and friends.

I will upgrade to the Ultra...as soon as the O2 sensor returns. I like the biomarker. Until then, I will maintain my Series 7. Maybe I should activate the cellular with my xFinity provider. I got it yet haven't activated cellular thinking the phone would always be 'nearby' in order to answer calls and get notifications for the phone apps. I also thought that if I didn't use the cellular, the battery may have more life. Great video & editing. I'm sure your O2 was topped when hiking amongst all that foliage.

Great video, great atmosphere, beautiful and actually healthy idea. That’s the reason I plan to buy Apple Watch Ultra 2, to be connected disconnected.. unfortunately not all functions are available currently where I am living - in Ukraine, but never mind. And the top comment about length of the video was so stupid and long, that I was tired of reading it. Guys, if someone don’t like how long this video is, if you are TikTok generation and cannot focus on even 12 minutes video - don’t watch it. No one’s forcing you, and especially no one’s force you to write long ass comments)

I was honestly shocked by this video. I was expecting sooooo much more considering the title...but that wasn't the case. First off...loved loved LOVED the intro! So cool man... Second, I've been considering the Ultra or a Garmin for my outdoor activities and hiking. This definitely swayed me more into the direction of the Ultra because for what it is, it'll work for me. Plan my hike on CALTOPO...save the GPX...load to watch...leave the house. Without my phone (depending on where I'm going, but most of the time I'm in the "front country"). Anyhow...amazing video good sir. Definitely earned my sub.

Only gripe I have with this video is he said leave your phone home. I can’t listen to music in my car with my Apple Watch Ultra I need my phone. The watch won’t connect to the Bluetooth. I’ve tried it it’s a no go. That being said when I workout I leave my phone. My AirPods connect no problem.

apple watch is much better iphone replacement than the cellular ipads, ipad doesn't have phone app, no nfc for apple pay, apple wallet holds all your hotel or transit cards, From a pure connectivity standpoint. you can call , from apple watch, you can use gps , it is waterproof, i can connect to airpods, it has gps and satellite connection , imessages, email check , and all the workout sensors, alarm, taptic engine is great. Watch has actually more apps than you can imagine. i think next innovation apple can make should be in battery department , make some fukin graphene battery which can last for at least 3x more time. 1 day battery life ad is like forever.Lithium ion ain't keeping up now.

The first nasty comment is not doing justice to this video I think. I really appreciate the way was first shot in the woods and so on. Also surprisingly talking about addiction is probably more helpful than talking about specs all the day.
